Sold my iPad 3 a month ago in preparation for this. Please let there be a pre-order so I don't have to get up at 2 in the morning to place my order.

I must say although I will be updating my iPad, I find it hard to be excited by apple launches anymore.

The new iPad is a tweaked old iPad. The new iPhone is a tweaked old iPhone.

It would be refreshing to know another game-changer product was on the horizon... Oh well.

What is at the top-center of the back?

Is that a hole in the top center of the back? If so, what is it?

I wonder what are the possibilities of the stylus that apple patented a whole back coming to life ! I would love to see an apple designed "optical stylus"

If the next iPad had proper stylus support, I'd ditch my 3 no questions asked, and happily stand in line out in the freezing cold for 8 hours.

Thing is, I don't think it's gonna happen this generation. If it were, we would've heard something about it by now. :(

What exactly would you be looking for? In most cases the game changers come in the form of software. From everything I have read and research I have done, the A7 itself is a game changer (performance approaching lower end desktop CPUs in some cases), etc.

As far as I have seen, no one else is offering a game changer right now. Unless you want the curvy phone Samsung just released .. and that's just releasing something for the sake of releasing something.

Can't wait to get the mini 2 in GOLD! Good thing I just sold my first gen mini for $280.

I'm thinking the same thing, but I don't want to sell my mini just yet, I use it for school so I don't want to be without it, which means I'll probably not get as much money when I do sell it. I do, though, really fancy the gold mini, let's just hope it's retina (to justify the upgrade) - very excited about this event, hope the mini is available immediately (which for you is even more important given you're without a mini currently!).

He's looking for iPad HOLOGRAM, and SO AM I!!

As for the Samsung watch to which you refer, Apple is making the same thing, but it'll be a couple years til we see it. Fool....

I can't believe how dumb Ive was to get rid of the side bezels. Now when you try to touch the screen on the side it won't respond well because it thinks you're just holding it. Ive is a joke and Apple desperately needs to bring back Forestall to clean up Ive's and Cook's mess.

Will the space grey back color scratch off or is it part of the metal?

Anybody with a 5s space grey outside of a case have opinions? (a bit early for scratches I suppose)

The 5s uses an anodising process which physically tints the color of the aluminium. The iPhone 5 had the scratch problem because it used a coating process that scratches off. The iPad will almost definitely use the new process and there won't be issues with scratching.

Have you ever even used an iPad mini to support your claims? The reduced bezel will not be an issue.

Huge update for my iPad Classic

Ha. How much use is the original iPad these days? Out of interest.

My fear is that the latest and greatest Apple product never satisfies all of our desires. They always hold something back for the next release.
I am not complaining, just pointing out their strategy that works well for them. I am just wondering what it could be.

Does this mean we won't see Touch ID until the iPad 6?

The reduced weight (thanks to the screen tech currently being used in the iPad Mini, and from other advances) will help tremendously in this too. Less weight means the smaller bezel won't be anissue.
The iPad Mini is still a joy to use in portrait, even with the reduced bezel. I obviously haven't held an iPad 5, but I am confident that it will be a non-issue.

As if Apple would make the bezels thinner without adjusting the software and making sure it works. I have used a mini and it works perfectly fine.

Apple implemented a thumb scanning feature with the mini that helps in detecting the thumb that is holding the device. It was on the promotional page of the mini when it was introduced. I agree that it works perfectly.
