On the MSNBC website a few days back there was an Asian video review. She weighed the ipad 4 on a scale at 1.4 pounds, while the ipad 5 weighed in at .92 pounds. I watched her actually put the devices on the scale one at a time, so I have no reason to disbelieve this video. I was shocked--and delighted--at the weight difference. Hope this is the real deal, although I have no way to verify. It appeared to be a legit news story, however, not some home video.
If this is true, I might buy one just for this reason alone. While I've never thought my iPad 3 was all that heavy, I'm not about to scoff at something that's both considerably lighter and more powerful.
Plus, now that I've played around with a Mini, I've come to appreciate how much more comfortable a lighter device is to use.
There wont be touchid on ipads for now...
I really surprised Apple hasn't switch to USB 3 lightning cables for the iPhone 5(S&C) and most likely won't with the next gen iPads.
That's something huge to want.
It's almost 2014, bro. This is NOT something huge.
Lol... are you seriously syncing data... HUGE amounts of it... all the time?
SO much data that USB 2 is slowing you down??
If so; count yourself one in tens of thousands.
Im just waiting for that gold iPad mini![]()
I don't get your point, seems contradictory. Yes this is almost 2014 in which USB 3.0 is so cheap and common. So why not implement it at the first place?
Whether you use it often or not it depends on the user. But USB 3.0 ensure optimum data transfer and should be standard by now.
Umm... the point is.
In 2009. We synced our phones. We do NOT now. Mine, my family's & my friend's backups are months if not years old. (as I recently noticed when I was just updating everybody to iOS 7) I mean, iCloud works.... we all use Pandora, Spotify, or iTunes Radio.. we may have small handfuls of files..... but, for the most part- we just don't.
Also, these devices are REPLACING our computers. My mother, who is almost 60, turns on her PC perhaps 10% as often now as two years ago when she got her 1st iPad. What would drive us to be plugging in these devices to our PCs..? It just doesn't happen.
I must say although I will be updating my iPad, I find it hard to be excited by apple launches anymore.
The new iPad is a tweaked old iPad. The new iPhone is a tweaked old iPhone.
It would be refreshing to know another game-changer product was on the horizon... Oh well.

Touch ID has been confirmed weeks ago. Also A7 processer has been confirmed on both modelsWeird that there isn't a sign of Touch ID. I thought that's why the iPad 5 was pushed back so far. It was already leaked at the beginning of this year.
I can't believe how dumb Ive was to get rid of the side bezels. Now when you try to touch the screen on the side it won't respond well because it thinks you're just holding it. Ive is a joke and Apple desperately needs to bring back Forestall to clean up Ive's and Cook's mess.

It has been speculated to be thinner as stated in this post and many others.
As a result, it is thinner, lighter, and smaller in size than the existing fourth-generation iPad.
Sorry. Scratch that earlier post. I just chased down the video again on MSNBC to refresh my memory, and she was only weighing the respective _cases_ of the ipad 4 and ipad 5. The weight differences in the _cases_ was 144 _grams_ (ipad 4) vs 92 grams for the ipad 5. At least the cases appear to be lighter. No further info on the innards, though.

Well hey, that's something. Assuming everything else is the same, we'll know the new iPad will weigh around 1.3 pounds...if I got my math right.
Though the smaller enclosure likely means they'll be using a slightly smaller battery, which will trim even more weight off. If Apple could find or buy a way to make the glass front over the screen thinner without making it too fragile (which I believe they did with the iPhone 5), then I wouldn't be surprised if it weighs around 1.1 pounds or so. Which is a pretty hefty cut all things considered.
