Should one grab Infuse "lifetime"?

I'm not up to speed on what caveats there might be (how long "lifetime" actually means, etc)

i just pay yearly, it's a small enough amount, and i'm not financially tied in should i choose to jump ship at any point.

it'll take me nearly 10 years of yearly payments before i'd reach the cost of the yearly fee.

Switching between libraries is now a huge pain in the arse involving more navigation and drop down menus that don’t scale well on an iPad. Before this was done simply by pressing the hamburger menu and then I could select and jump to anything I wanted.
Odd. On my iPhone and iPad, the current library is in the upper left. Tap it, and a choice of all your libraries appears. Tap a different one.

Did I? Where, exactly, did I say everything was fine in the new app?
first, I was kidding (a little).
second, all your replies in this thread are to "defend" the new app like all reported missing features/new bugs were non-existent.

as I said, in Plex forum, reddit, etc a huge number of users that updated their app on iPhone/iPad ARE experiencing A LOT of issues.
issues that have been reported for several months to Plex via testflight etc, and that they NEVER addressed and then they released this... crap.

if this was from a brand new startup, it could be acceptable. from a long time player like Plex? no way.

Actually, "all my replies" are mostly about whether or not the app was actually ever free. One person complained that LIVE TV is in your face and I didn't see it that way, then your own complaint (which I assume why you're targeting me) that one extra tap on the screen to browse your library is so inconvenient. That's TWO THINGS.

If you want to take those two things to mean that all the other missing features and new bugs were non-existent to me, that is very unfair and putting words in my mouth since, to be honest, apart from the visual GUI changes I've briefly noticed, I've not even used the new app yet to watch anything and have an opinion or experience said "issues".

To be fair, I've never seen an app redesign by anyone that didn't move things around and make some things less convenient to get to.

I've used Infuse for years and somewhat recently use Plex for maintaining the back-end while Infuse is the front-end player.

Only time I actively use Plex for playing is when I'm remote and want to watch something. No matter how hard I try with Infuse and setting up the remote capabilities, it just doesn't want to work

So my suggestion is use both for different reasons, use the tools for the jobs they're meant for. Infuse as the player and Plex as the media manager

Well, welcome to another bug. It was giving me a blank list. After I quit and reopened the app, it populated. Now you first have to navigate to the library tab before you can even see that. Previously I could access the hamburger from anywhere. I also have to click on additional button to see all of the other Plex servers unless i favourite them.
That used to be visible below my favourites on the previous menu.

You also can’t navigate Plex while a show is playing. It used to previously minimise down the bottom. Allowing you to freely browse the UI.

Picture and picture doesn’t work in portrait mode. It just quits playing if you swipe out of the app. However, that does work in landscape mode.

Again, not saying these can’t be fixed, but all of that functionality is now gone. And for what reason? To rush a new app update that didn’t need to be rushed?

The new UI definitely looks better on iPhone than it does on iPad.

A vocal minority does.

As usual with reviews, those who don't have issues with it are not saying anything.

With the amount of Plex users, the tally of complaints shows the majority don't have problems.

I used it as Plex Preview for months and it's good.
Its so broken dude, and its missing so many features.

Fortunately, about 95% of my Plex usage is through the Plex app on Apple TV. I suppose they will get around to updating that app too but for now, it's business as usual.

I only use Plex on my iPad/iPhone when I travel so my usage is understandably different than those who only watch Plex on a mobile device.

At the moment, my Apple TV Plex app hasn’t updated. I’m not sure if that’s even been pushed yet.

Anyhow, what bothers me is the quality of software being released. I’m not sure what the financial motivation is for Plex to push an an updated app that isn’t feature parody with a previous release. If it’s a complete rewrite of the codebase, there’s a trend that an application will lose some functionality which is reintroduced at a later date. But often this occurs for companies when they sell a new version of their application. Plex don’t. That’s not how they work.

So unless they’re getting pressure from a competitor and felt that a new coat of paint needed to be rushed out the door ASAP… I’m just puzzled.

There’s nothing wrong with a fresh coat to paint or introducing new functionality. But I’m really failing to see what this update gives me that I didn’t already have before. What I am seeing, are things taken away - a worse experience.

Now I know this isn’t important, but I really enjoy hearing the theme music of tv shows. I find that’s a little feature like that, just adds immersion. Why has this been removed? Perhaps to avoid copyright violations. I’m not sure. But I know I’m annoyed. 🤣

I feel like a lot of software lately is losing its heart on what made it unique and originally made it stand out from the crowd.

Anyway, I’m sure the next few months will be interesting.

On iPad OS, the new app breaks so many essential features for the Live OTA Tuner I have setup. I can no longer use Picture in Picture, for recordings that are in progress it no longer prompts to start from beginning or watch live, I can no longer record a show from the guide, and the load times are slower. :-/

You can activate picture in picture from landscape mode but not portrait mode.

Hopefully just a bug fixed in the next update.

Correction: that’s only for the iPad version. I can’t get picture in picture on the iOS version at all. 🙄

My Live TV tab locks up and crashes the app. So that’s cool. lol.

I started quoting people but it got to be too much

But ya Plex as a server is fine/great, but their purpose as an actual media player sucks now. I only use Infuse to play files as Plex seems to stumble all the time now

eh, most people don't complain about service(s), they just leave. Complaining in general just isn't worth it so people don't bother.

One metric I've heard for restaurant owners for instance says for every complaint you receive, assume 9 others just won't come back.

Like me, I didn't post any complaint, I just moved to something else.

The main issue I have with the update is that you have to individually download each video for offline viewing.

In the previous version, you could select a season or even the entire show for offline viewing.
