I have the base 15" model. I'm playing WoW in OS X with medium'ish settings and I'm getting anywhere from 40-100+ with probably an average in the 70's. The most intense I get are 5 man dungeons and it's very smooth - no major issues.

Make sure you all grab the new update for 15" and 17" pros that was recently released.

Dragon Age Origins - bootcamp FPS?

Can anyone post the FPS and settings they are seeing for Dragon Age under bootcamp? Thanks!

Does this include Dalaran?

Sorry, it does not. I just got the game a couple of months ago; level 57.

If you have the wotlk expansion, you can have someone portal you there. (Highly recommended; you can have your hearth set to someplace a ten second run from portals to all the capital cities...)

Anyway, it's definitely better than I'm getting on my 2007, although my screen's native resolution is 1920x1200.

Ah, that's cool. I'm just experiencing the luxury of portals - I just bought BC.

starcraft2

could someone with the new macbook pro 15" try playing starcraft 2 beta on bootcamp? I would really like to see if it runs smoothly in med/high setting with 330m 256mb... or if i'd need to get 512mb to run it well

I was running Dragon Age yesterday on high, and it seemed to run very smooth. I'm going to run FRAPS tonight to see exactly what the fps is. I'll get back to you guys then.

Can someone do a bechmarking test on GeekBench with the new Macbook Pro 13" Low-End to see the results and compare to the old one?

Anyone tried installing nvidia's latest drivers yet? Supposedly they offer a 30% gain in L4D2 (and many other games) over the version that bootcamp installs.

Wow, really? I'm going to have to give that a shot when I get home.

heres the latest geekbench 64 bit results for the newest macbook pros. Highest, and 2nd highest scores both posted.

low end i5 520 @ 2.4 Ghz: 5637 and 5619
mid i5 540 @ 2.53 Ghz: 5896 and 5866
high end i7 @ 2.66 Ghz: tons of scores all from mid 6300 to 6400

i was unable to find the 13 in results. sorry

So I installed the latest WHQL release of nvidia drivers using laptopvideo2go.com, version 197.16. The driver version that ships on the OSX DVD is 196.21.

Anyways, after installing the driver my 3dmark06 score dropped from 6763 to 6602. I ran the test again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and got 5980.

To confirm that the driver was at fault, I reinstalled the 196.21 version of the driver, and my score went back up to 6762.

So, for whatever reason, the newer driver decreased performance.

This is common. Sometimes the newer driver release addresses important stability problems, at the expense of performance. This is especially the case with WHQL drivers.

Search through the forums at laptopvideo2go and there will usually be some discussion about which is the best current driver that balances performance vs. stability. It's not necessarily the latest one that was released.

Also, some driver releases will optimize for certain cards at the expense of others, or optimize for DX11 features at the expense of DX10 performance.

People put too much stock in these numbers. Real world performance means more than 3dmark scores.

I have mixed feelings about the video. It's something that you need to see for yourself on your computer. I've played using a 9500 GT on a Core 2 and a 4830 on a Core i5 750. The experience is different and it really measures on what you're expecting.

Yes, I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, the way it works is... when I upload the video to youtube - it takes some of the umph of the graphics away, which is shame because I can't stress how good the graphics are.
