Starcraft II

Will the new MBP 13 be able to run Starcraft II with decent settings?. It`s the only decent game coming to the mac plataform.

I bet the MBP 15 wont have any issues with this game.

on a side note, are these new gpus soldered in? theoretically you could put in a new one yes?? we know osx supports other gpus. I personally had my old gate 7805u as a hackintosh. Recognized my 9800m GTS just fine. sooo theoretically you cold put a 260m in?

the 320 is, not 330.
The GeForce 320M for all intents and purposes appears to be the MCP89. The MCP89 is based on a 40nm, GT216 48:16:8 shader core.

It's an exact pin per pin drop-in replacement for the previous MCP79 (9400M G/ION). I don't know any details on the availability outside of Apple. As of last August the MCP89/99 were regarded as shelved products.

You enjoy watching paint dry and slideshows? :)

The minimum requirement for Bad Company 2 is Radeon X1900. The faster modification X1900XT gets ~5000 at 3DMark06. The MBP 13 reportedly gets 4750... Therefore, the BC2 might *just* run on minimum settings

I need to finish patching up my 9500 GT machine for Bad Company 2.

Hardly. Even if 330M is used as stand alone processor, you will face terrible problems with power consumption (the slot is likely to be underpowered) and cooling (260M is a beast compared to 330M)

okay a 5830

I just ran Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 on my MBP i7 2.66Ghz. OS was Windows 7 64-bit running in Bootcamp. The performance was nearly identical to my Alienware M11X which has a Nvidia 335M with 1GB of RAM.

Bad Company 2 averaged about 25 fps with medium settings and native resolution.

Modern Warfare 2 averaged 42 fps at default settings and native resolution.

What's your native rez, 1440x900 I assume?

Can't wait to start overclocking this baby (330M) :)

Does it have something to do with Open GL 4 arch, or dx11?

Honestly I am glad that Apple went with a 330m over a say 5830.

Or I guess more happy that they went with Nvidia over ATI for Optimus tech. I would rather take a hit in GPU performance, for the ability to get better battery life through auto switching.

ATI doesn't have anything like that (yet)

this way you can do intensive stuff, but still get a ton of life, instead of like 3 hours.

Actually Apple didn't use Optimus but created their own technology for the graphics switching, so I believe ATI could have been used to the same effect.

look up 2.53 9600m GT, MBP's from last gen and see what they got.

That won't tell him much. The performance is going to be lower than the 9600m GT. There is no way to know for sure except to wait for more people to get their hands on these machines and test them out.

I am glad we have our update now, and that's all good (some people don't agree)

but I feel awful for the Mac Pro crowed. They were waiting before us, and they are still waiting now.

So here's a question I posted before but I think got glossed over:

Will Spore run comfortably at native resolution with all the settings maxed out on a stock i7 15" Macbook Pro?

Thanks in advance.

Windows Experience Index

Hey, first post ever here..

Might be a bit off topic but.. Since some of you already have Windows 7 up and running on your lovely new core i7 MBP's could you just quickly find out what your Windows Experience Index number is (start>right click my computer>properties)?

Not that it means anything really.. I just want to see how it compares to the older ones.. :)

Thanks!
