Mac OS X 10.3.3 contains evidence of support for a new PowerMac revision:

10.3.2's Localizable.strings only had one model listed:

"PowerMac7,2" = "Power Mac G5";

10.3.3 has:

"PowerMac7,2" = "Power Mac G5";
"PowerMac7,3" = "Power Mac G5";

I hate to say this, but the only thing this tells us is that Powermacs will come out before 10.3.4 is released, and that could be a while.

Nevertheless, with that said, i believe that powermacs will come out he 23rd or the 30th as predicted.

Duff-Man says....Not that this means anything considering the source, but MOSR now says Powermac updates around the time of NAB Expo - April 17-22.....oh yeah!

I saw that.

Lemme think about this...

I think I'll take the word of Apple Insider, Macnews.net.tc, Macplus, and Macrumors instead. Thanks. :D

Updates in MARCH! WOO!

Sounds promising to me. I'm not in the market for a new G5 myself, but my friend is just itching to get his hands on a new G5 - I've been telling him wait these past few weeks, until the 23rd or the 30th - hoperfully I won't be wrong for him!

Running File merge shows some more changes.

It adds an XServeG5 as RackMac3,1

(what's RackMac2?)

It also adds Powerbook6,2 as a Powerbook g4 12"

there are a whole slew of reorganizations as well.

You mean, we'll probably see a new pb 12" next week?
That would be great....

According to the Mactracker database, the current PB 12" carries "PowerBook6,2" as its machine ID. Could someone double check 10.3.2? I don't think they would only update the 12" PB unless they don't change the remaining models because those will soon be updated to G5 (but not the 12", which could support my speculation made in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64755)

Yes, I second that.
Can anybody tell me what was the time between 10.3.1 and 10.3.2, and also the time between 10.3.2 and 10.3.3? That would give us a nice timeframe..

but i also second the updates will come before mid april

10.3.2
"PowerBook6,1" = "PowerBook G4 (12 inch)";

10.3.3
"PowerBook6,3" = "iBook G4";
"PowerBook6,1" = "PowerBook G4 12\"";
"PowerBook6,2" = "PowerBook G4 12\"";

I'm guessing RackMac2 that wasn't listed is probably the XServe Raid

New Macs coming out next week tuesday?

I saw on MacMall that they are selling Powerbooks, iBooks, and Powermacs with iPods and giving up to $200 off. But the funny thing is the sale ends Monday 11:49 pm PST. Could this mean that there will be upgrades to these computers starting Tuesday and they just want to get rid of as many computers before the new models come in? I hope thats the case because I want to sell my powerbook and get a faster one.

Interesting, but is it really possible that 12" Revisions A and B carry the same machine ID? If so, why would a Rev. C get a new ID if it's just a speed bump. Given that there are quite a few significant differences between Rev. A and B (USB 2.0, Mini-DVI, 512 KB L2 Cache, 256 MB RAM on board), it's hard to imagine what a Rev. C would feature. BTW why is the iBook G4 not listed in 10.3.2?

No, that is not possible. The Xserve RAID doesn't carry an own Machine ID, since it is not a computer and doesn't have a motherboard or CPU.

Could be the rev B is the different machine ID. The G4 ibook was late to this update. All I know about this is whats in the files I have. I didn't know until recently where the file was.

is ibm expected to continue to increase clock speeds on the 970, or is ibm expected to now concentrate only on increasing the speed of the 970fx?

The 970fx is basically just a speed-bumped 970 (smaller circuitry and better power management), so no, IBM won't be focusing on the old 970 anymore.

If I remember correctly in the G5 announcement video, the Vice-President of IBM spoke. He stated that IBM was already working on the next generation chip. So that means that they have been hard at work for at least six months now on that new chip. On March 31st we could hear about a new chip.

They don't.

Rev A.: PowerBook6,1
Rev B.: PowerBook6,2

and iBook G4 (very similar computer) is PowerBook6,3.

I will be simply amazed if MacPlus is correct about the release date of the powermacs, especially since it was predicted weeks back. I'll have to check their site more often after this.

Good thing I can speak French! :p

UPDATES TUESDAY

Unlikely

I think there is too much product in the pipeline for there to be an update Tues. If anything happens this week I think we might see price drops. I just left macmall's website and they have over 1100 2.0DP and 1100 1.6's in stock. I know that watching inventory is not a scientific way of guessing update cycles but that just seems too high.

I couldn't believe these stock figures, so I checked the website myself..and I although I have a hard time to believe it, i saw the units in stock nr which said "1107".

Am I the only one who thinks this is really ackward? Why would they take so much stock in when they should know that the 6 months product cycle is coming to an end?

Or did they buy 2000 at the launch, and still have that amount left? Hardly something I can believe either..

strange, and if true, a little stupid from the side of macmall.. imho

The stock issue is also one reason I don't think Powerbook updates are all that close....I just looked at Clubmac and they have over 1200 15" PBs in stock, along with 300 17" and ~325 12". That is just at one reseller--although I now think Clubmac and Macmall either share inventory, are the same corporation, or are just giving a view to Apple's own stock levels.

Best,

Bob

I am pretty sure MacMall and ClubMac share stocks.

I also think that if Apple waits any longer for the stocks to completely disappear we'll be waiting for a while.

I also think that Apple doesn't wait for stocks to completely deplete to release new models. Look at the 867 Mhz 12 inch powerbooks, for example. Those are still in stock at most stores, as are the old G3 iBooks.

When new products are released the resellers simply lower the prices on the old inventory to move them out. Apple doesn't wait for their stocks to completely deplete.

Actually, if you think about it, 1000 in stock is relatively small compared to what is usually kept. At one time, ClubMac had over 5000 units of the single 1.8 in stock.

With all this said, it is pretty obvious that updates are IMMINENT.
