this just about confirms that new powermacs are very very near.

Conversations like this make me wonder what percentage of people here just want to salivate of new product announcments and what percentage will actually buy one. :) I fit into the first group.

I am in the second if its a G5PB for the same price point! (And Apple Australia does justice to the exchange rate)

I just checked our belgian Apple site, sorry that the quote is in Dutch but it states that the memory discount is for consumers buying in between 27Feb and 8 may trough the apple store... so would they not release new G5's at the same time in europe? normally (except for the iPod Mini wich still has to be released) they release their new systems worldwide at the same time... I guess...

"1. Deze actie geeft klanten die tussen 27 februari en 8 mei 2004 via een deelnemende Apple Store op het internet een in aanmerking komende Apple computer (zoals hieronder gespecificeerd) aanschaffen, recht op een korting van maximaal 38% op de aankoopprijs van extra geheugen dat is aangeschaft via de maatwerkoptie"

Well...

It seems strange that there is only one Localizable in 10.3.2 and only two in 10.3.3 because there are 1...2...3 different G5 configurations currently out. So unless this new G5 has different architecture than the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 (going beyong simply ramping up the clock speed), the only rational explanation for another Localizable is that...OH HORRORS! there was an error on the part of a poor Apple programmer.

New powermacs will have the 970fx, and powertune, so that's probably the reason for another entry in that document

What constitutes proof

I know that there are a lot of programmers in these forums, and a few scientists of various stripes as well. And frankly I find it alarming that you think this is proof of anything. Someone said that it was proof that new revisions would be released before 10.3.4 comes out, but even that is faulty logic. One could just as easily say it is evidence that Apple has no intention of updating the OS again until after new machines come out.. and if you were all pumped up for a new OS instead of a new machine, you would be crying.
It implies perhaps that it is Apple's hope to either release new machines before another revision of the OS ships, or Apple's hope that when it does release a new machine, it won't need to release another version of the OS just to support it.
Sorry folks, but this info, while interesting, is not proof of anything. That said, I sure hope they bring out new PowerMacs soon. And new Powerbooks. And while we're at it, let's have G5 iMacs and maybe an eMac with a better screen.. I don't think eMac owners should be denied a decent resolution on their 17" CRT's.. the 17" Studio Display CRT did 1600x1200, why doesn't the eMac?

Power Mac 7,2 and 7,3

Apple has a way of confusing us and this leaves people to mythologize meanings for the cryptic numbers. Once and for all:

Power Macintosh 7,3 = Dual 2Ghz G5 June 2004

Power Macintosh 7,2 = Dual 2Ghz G5 June 2003

The 7,3 is, in my considered opinion, the best machine because it retained the TRUE DUAL status (seperate system bus for each processor) and most had the variable speed processors. Very fast machine as long as you have at least 3 Gigs of RAM--even by today's standards.

While we appreciate the contribution, and we do ask people to at least do a cursory search for existing threads before starting new ones, reviving a three-year old thread in this case to make this specific point seems a little pointless. For that reason, this thread is now closed.
