have you done the IR test? are you planning to keep it or return it in hoping to get a samsung lcd?

I did the IR test and did not see anything. I was debating whether or not to exchange it while I could or wait for it to come and then try to get the screen replaced. But in setting up my computer, I noticed it had a red/magenta cast to the backlight that I was unable to calibrate out. Looking around I see color casts in addition to IR is a widely spread problem. I decided to return it and get my money back and buy an SSD for my 2010 MBP. I'm sitting this round out. I'll see how things look again when Haswell comes out.

Sucks because I really could have used a new computer. I'm pegging my processor and RAM to the max on my 2010.

I take it that there is still no way to find out what screen you have with the 13" models?

I am kind of in the same boat. I just received my rMBP yesterday. I didnt see any IR after doing the test nor did i notice anything while setting it up. I'll just play around with it more to see. I just dont want the IR to show up after my return window. Anybody else out there with a LG lcd that is not having any issues?

hi everyone!

long time lurker, fist time poster. I ran the terminal command to check what lcd screen i have and i have an LG screen. last night, i ran the image retention test and i wasnt able to see any issues with my screen. may it be that my rMBP is still too new? for those with the LG lcd, when did you first notice the IR? should i go exchange my rMBP and hope that I will get one with the samsung lcd? thanks advance for any help or suggestion.

Hey,

Your laptop is still NEW it will take about 3 - 4 months or longer to produce the IR issue with LG panel. You will not see it right away it takes time for it to appear on your screen after extended period of use.

No there is no way of finding out for the 13" models....sorry.

To be honest this is exactly why I recommend not taking the risk with an LG screen and returning you rMBP and hopefully exchange for one with a Samsung screen.

Ordered a 15" CTO 2.6/16/512 on oct 29 and and picked up at my Apple Premium Reseller here in Genoa (Italy) on nov 20: it has Samsung display

Byeee,
Andrea

I simply agree with you. Once you find out its an LG on day one purchase return it for a Samsung. Some may argue this but its better to be safe then sorry at the end.

I just got replaced LG screen with IR to Samsung one. I brought laptop to apple store and it took 2 days for replacement. THey didn't have parts in stock so they ordered screen.

Couldn't be more happy with Samsung:)

Not yet. But I'm probably going to try soon. If not to maintain resale value later on (don't think anyone wants to buy an lg screen RMBP)

The base of buyers with knowledge of the LG v Samsung debacle is probably limited - however more and more second hand buyers do search the internet and forums to know what problem to look out for!

Did you have to prove/show the Genius the problem? Did they give you a hard time? I am asking since i want to know what to tell them before i bring my macbook in. As for right now, i have not seen any IR issues on my rMBP and I hope i dont ever.

guys - I apologise as I made a ***** up with my testing of which screen I had

I just did the terminal command line test and got this:

Color LCD
LSN154YL01001

That would indicate a Samsung display.

My config again: 2.7Ghz/16GB RAM/768GB SSD ordered Nov 23 2012.

Just received my 5th rMBP -- another LG. And back it goes...

This is so aggravating! I'm honestly getting sick of the whole ordeal. Though for this amount of money, I'm definitely not settling with IR. Why can't I just get a Samsung for Pete's sake! /rant

Unfortunately true. When I first noticed the burn in (with certain grays) I decided it wasn't that big of a deal.... Then after the 3 month mark it got worse. It got so bad that watching videos or playing games would show it on all sorts of different colors. Got it replaced at the genius bar. Biggest concern was dead pixels (previous display was flawless). Thankfully the Samsung replacement was also flawless.

Seriously though, I even wrote here that it was initially not very bad. It got horrible (LG image retention). Since the retina display is the major selling point and the retention gets really bad, I'm sure that LG is probably screwed in terms of whatever their supplier contract with Apple is.

Just keep it up. We're all routing for you.

I'm on my 18th. I figure one out of fifty is a Samsung now. You just have to keep going. Takes stamina and will power. Post here when you finally get one.

Good luck :)

What week is your rMBP? Any yellow tint?

Genius run tests, they didn't come with anything useful to be honest. Then I just kept one finder window on grey wallpaper for 5-10 minutes and once I shifted it , IR was visible. I took some pictures I showed as well so there wasn't much of a talk and explanation there.

Screen replacement straight away.

Samsung doesn't look as uniform with whites as LG did but there is no IR. I might take it to apple store again to replace this samsung due to visible color shift in one of the corners.

I love the retina macbook but apple screw up in terms of the display quality.

As long as they can replace it, I'm happy to do it as it's not my fault :)

I bought a 13" rMBP 7 days ago and it had bad IR right away so it probably had a LG screen (I tested on the 4th day after I bought it). The checkerboard test showed severe image retention. I took it back and got a 15" rMBP instead. The new 15" has an LG screen. So far no IR is showing up at all. I have an earlier 15" rMBP too (I have two now) and the first one has a Samsung screen and shows no tints, stuck pixels or IR. The second one has no issues either but I'm nervous about some showing up. I don't know what week the builds are. My 1st rMBP was bought 5 weeks ago.

I have a Week 45 with Samsung screen I bought about three weeks ago in store (online w/pickup). Its a base 15" rMBP (2.3ghz/8gb/256gb).

Just got this data. My newest 15" rMBP is week 49 and has LG screen. So far no IR after 15 min doing the checkerboard test.
