my cousin thinks a new imac will be out late september??
well, i'd take the dispatch time on apple's website as a hint and not because of bank holiday, as my cousin works for the apple bit in pc world and the stock of imacs there has been low, plus he's been told he can't book any holidays during two certain weeks during september, in which apple have announcements during, etc.

also, it would make sense for the education offer to end just before the new imac comes out so that people buy the last stock of imacs now before the offer expires. which is highly annoying because i want the new one but the offer is pretty appealing!

i'm torn to be honest, if the new imac wouldn't be too much better than the current then i'd get for the education promotion, but if it's due to be alot better then i'll wait

Was answering the previous posters question as succinctly as I could. I would wait rather than buy a 2011 iMac even if she misses back to school because the depreciation of her machine (2011 vs. 2012) in the next 3 years will far outweigh the $100 benefit of a gift gift card. Besides, the educational discount still applies even after 9/21

So, Tuesday 18th for silent refresh anyone? Last chance saloon for those of us who have been waiting to take advantage of back to school

I'm on board with the 18th or 25th for a silent iMac update. I've been wondering if Mac Mini, thunderbolt display and 13" MacBook pro Retina will see the day of light the same time too? This will have nearly ever item on the store with a new logo next to it not sure how Apple feels about that. Although, a lot have been saying this crowded product line up would happen sept/oct

I just don't see it happening in September with all the logistics needed to organize the product and people for the iPhone.

That puts me in a bit of a pickle but hey, what's £70 between friends! I'm in the US around the middle of Oct so may instead just buy the mac mini maxed out BUT only if it comes with SSD and dedicated GPU. This should be a decent saving for me given Apple has tried very hard to dangle the £70 gift card carrot in front of me to make me buy the 2011 iMac. I am not biting BUT it's frustrating. Fingers crossed for tomorrow to get what I really want

Perhaps a soft launch around october when the new ipods and iTunes is available.

But what would the connection be?
I think it'll be a soft launch too, but that's why I suppose it could be completely detached from anything else and could essentially happen any (Tues)day at this point...

No soft launches IMO ... there's gonna be at least a minimal redesign, so they'll want to state it loud ! And if it's not gonna be a redesign, I'll prolly get a MBPr 'cause no redesign means that iMacs are "doomed" in Apple intentions ...

In my mind redesign probably means 2013 launch which I don't think I agree with. We know it's screen lamination issues which held it back from a July launch so this platform is ready to roll. Like NOW (cf. "imminent" in @claytonmorris blog)!

I agree with you that a redesign probably means an event somehow but with iPad mini to launch and fast approaching holiday season after an assumed mid-Oct iPad mini launch, I just can't see it.

Just looked at the stories around the 2011 launch on 9to5 mac, there seemed to be a solid idea that it was coming when it did from several sources and customers getting existing orders delayed, don't think it will be tomorrow all to vague at the moment

i dont know how you dont see it, this is the longest its ever taken for imac to be release, clearly something is up, if there is screen lamination issues why would they have that now? they been doing the same screens since 2009 why would they have that problem if it isnt something new they are trying, i really dont know how you cant see a new design in the horizon. Theres definitely going to be a new design every rumors says so too. We will get a new design in october and not 2013 youll see.

if its not tomorrow it must be within the next few weeks

hahha i love people like this, if not tomorrow then the next tuesday if not that one then the next one or the next one or the next one or the next one hhahaha im not trying to be an ass but thats not really saying much there bud.

The connection would be that they have other product to release. They don't have to shut down the website twice. They did it for the new airport express.

Even in July, a simple refresh would have been "late". Yes, they were probably waiting for Nvidia, but they still could have pursued other options if they wanted to get a simple refresh out.

I don't expect a radical new design, but I do think the screen issues hint at other, more subtle, design changes.

Yeah I agree. I think with the new screen it might mean a slimmer design.

The iMac would have been released at WWDC if it was just a small spec bump I think.

What about the mac mini? Surely if the iMac has been delayed because of a redesign of the screen and/or form factor no such excuses for mac mini. Or the recent example of the mac pro evolution for that. Nah. I am not expecting a redesign. Simply Apple taking its time on things, looking at components availability and inventory (of components) management. Propped by seemingly minimal real world benefit of ivy. So the incentive to push the boat out was simply not there strong enough.
