Other threads have suggested there may be a silent refresh on 7th Aug. Anyone know the origin and validity of such rumours? Other have said 28 Aug may be more likely to give to clear blue water between an iMac refresh and the iPhone event in Sept? Is August a realistic option?

I had resigned myself to 18 or 25 September but any date before the end of 'back to school' promo would be greatly appreciated!

IIRC, the origin was an older blog post/article. As to the validity of any particular rumor, we'll know for sure when the refreshed iMac is announced, though I think that it's more likely to be late August or Sept. on a day other than the iPhone event. I have to admit that if it slips into Q1 2013, I'm going to start thinking that Ivy Bridge is "old tech" and consider waiting for Haswell. :)

I alrady see Ivy Bridge as old CPU!

That's kind of where I am. If it's a day over 18 Sept, I am keeping my powder dry for Haswell (and/or a redesign if there's any signs Apple is working towards it for 2013).

One can only dream.... would have been awesome though if we saw an imac update next week.

Seems like an arbitrary deadline. Since it's halfway between iPhone Event and iPhone Launch, there's next to zero chance of that date. If it's after Aug 21, it won't be before Oct 9.

Through my wife I am entitled to back to school which finishes on 19 Sept. It's not much but together with the £70 iTunes card, it's c 18% off the list price of the machine I have in mind. Arbitrary or not, it's influencing MY purchasing decision!

I guess it's your decision whether an 18% discount is sufficient to offset the fact that it will be EOL'd at least 1 year sooner. I know I would decide it's not.

I won't buy an iMac 2011! So it won't be EOL'd a year sooner. I will either make do with my 2011 MBA or buy a mid-range mini to tie me over until the Haswell iMac

Since 2-3 months (!!!) there are no BTO iMacs available in Germany, Switzerland and Austria (Resellers). Expected shipping date is now August 9th (two weeks ago: August 2nd).

What is wrong with Apple? All Foxconn workers on strike? Supply chain management destroyed?

I mean, if there are screen lamination issues, they should have a plan B (otherwise it's ridiculous). It's like living in a communist country and waiting months to buy something "really old" for too much money.

:apple::mad:

Too busy pumping out iPad's for all the 90 year olds you see in all the Apple stores now.

That's where the big bucks are.

Apple Computer Inc has been less about computers since they dropped the "Computer" from their trade name - it's all part of the plan.

Been away for a couple of weeks. Did I miss much? The vote seems to be firming on 18 Sept...Wishful thinking or has there been developments?

you didnt miss anything besides every rumor site having a huge boner over the new iphone.. its iphone month from here till december nobody is shutting the hell up over and were sick and tired of it because they just keep on reporting the same things over and over again and saying things we already know. And i say how about we now move on to something that we dont know too much about like idk.. hehe THE IMACS!!

its been really annoying to say the least.

sorry, nothing has happened, it´s really dead in here.

Thanks guys. Would be too much to hope for some tangible progress in the iMac refresh saga. Thought I heard somewhere some benchmarking data came out on a new retina 13" MBP, has there been any hints that valodate the infamous May geekbench data of a purported 13.2 iMac?

the death date of Steve jobs should have been in the poll. I feeling more and more strongly that it will be that date of the imac.

I really think that the first anniversary of Jobs' death would be a time of quiet reflection and remembrance for his family, friends and colleagues. I can't see it being used as a ra ra ra event launching a new computer. Might be just me, but I find the idea kinda tacky.
