I was in the Apple store earlier today and the sales guy and I agreed that the iMac will have a soft launch once Mountain Lion arrives.
Awesome, you and the sales guy figured it out! That's a weight off everyone's shoulders.

Nah, they won't launch with ML. they would wait another couple of weeks. They want more people to give up hope and get 2011's so they can reduce their existing model stock. Same reason that it wasint announced at the keynote. Also they may be waiting on new GPU but that's irrelivent.

If they are waiting on a new GPU, I don't see how that's not relevant. In fact, I would say it's paramount. They released new Macbooks yesterday and I'm sure there was stock that still needs to be sold, so why treat iMacs differently?
iMac boxes are bigger! ^_^
Seems to fit 680M volume availability.
Correct me if I'm wrong, buts isn't the GTX 680M supposed to be a laptop GPU?

Yes.. which is what the iMac uses. There's never been room in an iMac chassis for a desktop GPU. In fact, they started out also using laptop CPUs.
Is the 6970 a laptop GPU?
I don't think any of us know ish about anything when it comes to Apple updating or launching a new product.
My hope would be for a new iMac in July but it turns out that Apple doesn't actually give a ish about my hopes. lol
I think when Tim Cook was replying to that reporter... when he said "later next year"... he meant 2 things.
1. NOT that the launch would be LATE 2013 but rather more of a common phrase... "later next year".
2. I think Tim was emphasizing the Mac Pro update/redesign and not the iMac. That's what the reporter was emphasizing - the pro users and so Tim replied to that segment of the phrase.
Not sure how it's going to pan out but I'm very confident that any new iMac updates will be this year. The only thing that really concerns me is... the retina display. I don't think they'll be able to pull it off on a 27" without raising the price by a ton. Which in turn makes me agree with the whole idea of a spec bump within the next 3 months... with a possible retina display in 2013.
What they could try to do is add a 17" to the iMac line up... and throw retina on that one. I think a 17" iMac is a good fit... like how it was a few years ago. Obviously still retain the 21.5" and 27" iMacs too.
Basically... what I'm trying to say... in a nutshell is...
I am disappoint.

I Wonder one thing thouge why diden't Apple put retina display in the 11" and 13" macbook air woulden't that be cheaper then the 15"?
I'm guessing the Intel HD4000 integrated graphics can't handle it, and there's no room in the Air for a discrete GPU.
call me crazy, but today I just didn´t want to be part of the waiting game anymore. Most likely the next update will be minor, ivy bridge processeors etc...so a bump I dont really care about. I need a new machine to do my work and if some retina insane machine comes next year Ill buy that and sell this one.
I´m so happy, these last days have driven me nuts.
So, just bought a i7 16gb ram 256 ssd iMac...maxed out everything...yummy, its still hot hardware
atleast thats one machine closer for you waiters![]()
