I vote for a Mountain Lion release date... makes sense.

The 2011 iMacs are already starting to look a bit like poor value considering that Dell/Alienware are now happily shipping 3rd gen i5/i7 processors in their stuff :)

ugh, so sick of waiting....and the rumor mill is not moving either. Just the lousy rumor of a non retina mac for the past week. 9to5 mac & macrumors have never been more boring that what it is now. Far fetch stories, uninteresting iphone tidbits and retailers wage fights which frankly is less interesting than no news.

just give me something to go on... :(

John Lewis in UK - Large nationwide department store and a fairly major UK :apple: reseller has more than 10 in stock of all size and models of the off the shelf iMacs. :(

PCWorld UK only have the 27s in limited stores the rest are Out of Stock for order/ collection.

Comet only 21s available in selected places. 27s Out

Amazon.co.uk well reported as out on all models

Transcom / Cancom specialist and main :apple: reseller out of stock of all but 21s 2.7ghz . These guys are pretty much a barometer as they used to be the only Approved Apple Reseller in East Scotland back in the days... and are pretty much the 'Apple store' in Edinburgh (though I don't personally recommend them at all).

So for me it looks like a spec bump coming in the near future! This many retailers can't have speculated down to this kind of lack of selling capability - though they might be wrong also:eek:

They have 10 of the high end iMac back in stock as of today.

Its worse than that  looks like pretty much all models available again from Amazon.co.uk

Probably as a result of us lot checking out to see if they have any... in the hope of a new model and that being wrongly interpreted as buying interest! ;)

Though they do have a £200 saving on the 27 i5 3.1

And then what? This combo intrigues me, but I've never seen it in practice. Do you close your laptop and use an external keyboard / mouse / trackpad? Does the computer stay awake if you do this, or do you need to keep the screen open? If the screen is open, how annoying is it to have two different form factors of the same image in your face?

Curious.
Yes i made the link between using dvi to vga adapter ,then i replied the mouse and the keyboard using the wired Apple Keyboard and a wireless usb logitech mouse.
When i turn on the laptop i shutdown the lid as soon i can, quite soon(if stays open doesn't work well, replies the desktop with black lateral band or shows a new one beside the usual on the laptop).
When it has booted correctly i open the lid to make the air flow better ( but this is me and maybe my fear to fry my only mac).
ps.
If you use battery it doesn't stay on...loads,shows up the desktop and then goes to black til you stroke a key or move the mouse.
ps.2
Can i ask if with the power adapter on is it better to take off the battery or not?Anyone?
ps.3
different form factors at my face..not sure to understand correctly but..the truth is that my screen was gigantic while the resolution was not so "retina" you know..mine is a Cornflake display..good for the breakfast but tiring at the evening..for my eyes..,the laptop display stays black instead.
ps.4
After my bravia 32 inch has passed away..i bought a 24" full hd samsung display, very small while compared with the latest just dead...this one was too broad for my eyes...i cannot focus on the pages..this one i'm using instead while is a little behind the 27" on the Imac is quite good even if i don't like the colors still..maybe its just my habits .
I will use it to play with the new Imac ..when Apple will let us have it..,1920x1080 is more than enough to play even with the 6970m isn't it?
By the way this is my Waiting for new Imac setup, please Apple,i'm suffering.don't you see it?

So silent, so boring. Nothing happens and no rumors of any interest. the iMac is today 420 days old, only thing older is the shuffle and ipod classic (which are products that seem to have stopped being refreshed, probably reached their maximum potential)....is this they way its gonna be until fall or winter???...that's tragic.
If it's just going to be a spec bump iMac update, I don't understand why Apple keeps the old hog alive and not just make that tiny update. It doesn't make much sense to sell old hardware to milk customers to this extent unless they are up to something...Either they have a huge iMac update coming along or Apple is planning to bury their desktop product line....seems like the only logical solution to me.

I hope for some "magically great" rumors to pop up this week about the iMac - I'm loosing hope :(

26th June today, 9 people (3.6% of all the people polled) have voted today being the new iMac release day. It probably won't be next week so close to July 4th, but is there any realistic hope of a refresh today? Personally I can't see it

The only plausible explanation IMO is Apple wants to release the updated iMac with Mountain Lion, like they did with Lion and the Mac Mini.

Same happened in Japan late April. Means very little in my opinion...

or Apple is planning to bury their desktop product line.....

(

I do believe this is the intermediate to long range plan. I suspect that they would do it immediately if they could do it without great backlash.

I guess you missed the part about the Mac Pro being 600+++ days over due? ;)

Perhaps when they have wireless docking built into the ATD's, you'll know it's time. People won't ever stop needing large displays (unless they start needing large holograms instead).

you are right desktops wont be replaced until other solutions are better. When a macbook air has all the power you need and just by keeping it in range of your huge monitor and keyboard and they connect wirelessly, there´s no need of a desktop computer anymore....even if you never want to move your computer there´s no point having a stationary then. But until that day, Apple SHOULD UPDATE THEIR DESKTOPS at a regular basis! :(

I sincerely dont understand Mac Pro users, because its only a BIG case with components that Mac OS have hardware drivers, isnt? Or have any components "embedded" like iMac, MBA, MBP?

If Mac OS supports a hardware specification, isn't better replace old components to new one instead of buy a new Mac Pro?

afaik you cant replace the cpu of a mac pro therefore yoy need to upgrade every5+ years or so. And the mac pro has to be one of the most reliable pieces of equipment for video/film production. Its stability and processing power can handle tasks no other mac can handle.

You can replace the CPU, it's just that as new components are released, support drops for older models of the Mac Pro with outdated motherboards, etc. You can't, for example, just throw in a current graphics card and expect it to work.

Which is funny because computers could only handle decent quality video starting 10 or 15 years ago, and good quality video since about half that time.
