Interesting...I don't know if this has been noted here but changing any spec on the iMacs results in a change in shipping date from In-Stock to Ships: 1-3 business days or even 2-4 days in some cases.

Stock dwindling down just in time for ML and a spec bump?

Well, if you believe the somewhat cynical theory that Apple is counting on crushed fanboys going ahead and buying 2011 iMacs after no WWDC announcement, then you have to assume that we won't see any new iMac until 2 weeks after this week...

So it has to be July at the minimum. And if they're waiting for July, then they might as well just wait a week and give everyone free ML along with the new machines - that will save them a lot on tech support problems.

So, no announcement at WWDC means late July at the earliest. This kind of fits into the whole "Back to School" time frame for a new iMac. Let's hope.

The OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date upgrade will be available at no additional charge from the Mac App Store to all customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.

Customers must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchasing their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 11, 2012 and the date when Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from the OS X Mountain Lion release date to make a request.

When Mountain Lion becomes available in July, come back to this page for details on how to request your copy of Mountain Lion.

Right, but what I'm saying is that some people are going to have problems when they install that OS upgrade. If Apple postpones the iMacs and just gives them the OS along with the machine, they save money on all those tech support phone calls and genius bar visits that won't be made.

He meant it is easier for Apple to hold off a week or two longer and put a copy of Mountain Lion on the new iMacs rather than shipping them with Lion and getting customers updating them and ringing tech support with questions.

Makes sense. It'll be interesting when Mountain Lion goes Golden Master.

"I think when Tim Cook was replying to that reporter... when he said "later next year"... he meant 2 things.
1. NOT that the launch would be LATE 2013 but rather more of a common phrase... "later next year".
2. I think Tim was emphasizing the Mac Pro update/redesign and not the iMac. That's what the reporter was emphasizing - the pro users and so Tim replied to that segment of the phrase."
^ Me.

"Apple PR has reached out and clarified that only the Mac Pro is expected to be next updated in 2013. The company had no comment about the iMac, which perhaps means that the iMac could see updates earlier than next year. It has been 406 days since the iMac last received an update, significantly longer than the traditional iMac update interval."

Ok I think I'm going to wait for the Mountain Lion release in late July and if it still doesn't come out then and there haven't been any reliable rumours of an imminent release then I'll get a 2011 iMac.

Does that sound like a good plan?

My plan exactly.

I'm going to wait 3 weeks after ML release, just in case Apple wants to capture a few more depressed suckers... :D

Nope, doing a custom configuration always puts shipping in a 1-3 or 2-4 day range for an iMac depending on the options selected.

ML launch date never quite got to 60% but in the past couple of days it would seem the 2013 vote has nudged down from close to 30% to 25%. Would you change your vote today if you were voting again?

For me its easy, just took my hdtv and hooked to my Mbpro 2006.

And then what? This combo intrigues me, but I've never seen it in practice. Do you close your laptop and use an external keyboard / mouse / trackpad? Does the computer stay awake if you do this, or do you need to keep the screen open? If the screen is open, how annoying is it to have two different form factors of the same image in your face?

Curious.

I'm betting a release along with ML but that's probably me just being optimistic. I just hope it's before the end of August because I'm planning on buying one from Apple regardless to take use of the whole 'Back to school' offer.

So there's been a development in people's expectations with stories circulating of a fall 'refresh' without retina...

Makes no sense to me so continue to expect late July refresh with ML release. At present there's a tag of war in my mind which I summarise below:

Evidence supporting July refresh

(1) no retina, no bottleneck
(2) GPU releases this week
(3) provide opportunity for core academic market to benefit from back to school promo
(4) CPU benchmarking scores filtering out

Against July refresh

(1) this dude who's saying 'fall'
(2) SSD capacity constraints (bottleneck) if rMBP experience is examined
(3) lack of detailed parts/spec/inventory numbers leaked yet
(4) how Apple has treated the Mac Pro community

Isn't there a history with Nvidia and their production/shipping times being, well... bad? The GTX 680M will probably be insanely popular, could cause delays.

I have had a thought about this. How long before release date would Mountain Lion need to be ready to go for new macs to be shipped with it on release date?

At the moment resellers don't appear to be able to recieve iMac stock. Could that be an indication of not just a hardware release very soon, but also ML?

My plan is if the new iMac is not released with ML then I will buy a 2011 iMac..
But I dont get apple why they didn't release the new iMac in June 11. I know I'm almost 12 (in July 9th I will be 12) and im waiting for it every day I search the web . And if it's not releases with ML then ill buy a 2011 iMac.. Btw I need it really bad because i wrote codes in as3 for ios and I want to write in Xcode with objective c and with ios sdk ..( I have windows )..
So I tip for apple release it with ML!!!

I voted 24th of July, but I'm taking that back. I fear we will not see an update before September.

Regretting more and more that I didn't pick up an iMac at the 10% discount action a local store had early May...

What makes you think we won't see a release until the Fall? Considering that fall doesn't start until the 23rd of September this year. That would probably mean nothing new until Oct.

That's more than 500 days between refreshes. :(

Somewhere an Apple executive is laughing at all of us.

And his co-workers are slapping their knees and pointing at us. :D

iMacs in Germany (resellers) are now out of stock until July the 5th. That means since more than 7 weeks no chance to buy an BTO Desktop. It seems like that :apple: doesn't want to sell their computers anymore.
