Guess we have to rely on 3rd party fixes in order to make the iPad do what we want it to do. Apple is making a ton of money, but they're as vulnerable as they've ever been. A strong competitor can come along and really steal their spotlight if they don't pick it up.

This is pretty much the story of iOS since the first iPhone.

There has been third party notification apps before we had a built in Notification Center. Third party landscape keyboards etc.

The only problem I see with this is that all it is a Safari window. That view was made to be integrated in stuff like 1Password, Editorial, RSS readers, and whatever else pushes you onto the internet.

Add a downloader or a way to keep some notes and Apple probably wouldn't care.

Its obvious from these 3rd party solutions that iOS on iPad is severely lacking from being a power-users OS to use. Can't wait to see what other optimizations and features Apple has planned for the iPad for iOS X at WWDC 2016, so that the iPad can become the preferred portable and efficient tool for power-users.

At the moment, I agree with everyone else - the iPad is a great device for consuming content, but for creating content...iOS can be a slow and complicated mess...
"Severely"?
I don't understand why Apple did not enable multitasking for my iPad Air. It isn't that old a device. Is it because of the processor? Or because they want me to upgrade? And why no multitasking on the iPhone 6S? Isn't that the faster processor?:(
Three letters: RAM
Apple will pull this app as soon as they find out this is modifying they way they want safari to operate.
But this isn't affecting Safari. As far as I understand it's more or less just another browser essentially that uses a new view controller that Apple has made available for other browsers to use.

Save for some Samsung devices, you can't even open a second pane in Android, much less another browser window. Samsung has offered multiwindow support in many of their devices for a few years now yet there are more apps supporting the functionality in iOS after only 2 months, for a fraction of the devices.

This is the point where I'm sure you'll chime in to let me know Windows has better options, allowing multiple windows--so how's that been working out for them for the past few years? ;)

Doesn't iOS 9.2 add a whole bunch of new functionality to the Safari View Controller? Should make this a better tool once it rolls out of beta.

The funny thing is people still support apple.

You should know why they block the feature for air 1.

No one provides everything that everyone needs, that doesn't mean that everyone should turn against companies that provide them with most throngs that they want but not everything. It's not a black and white world out there--reality is far more nuanced than that.

So basically this whole app is just a WKWebView? As a developer I'm upset I didn't come up with this idea myself. I never thought that was an issue since there are a ton of other browsers. I feel people expect this app to work within Safari so my expectation is that you will see a lot of refunds.

Apple will NOT pull it because it does nothing more than present another browser. If it pulled it, it would need to pull EVERY other browser that allows side-by-side views

Shouldn't Apple have done this at launch? It's my number one reason for having side by side.

I'm confused as to the purpose of this. Even on my Mac I have never needed two Windows open at the same time. That's what tabs are for.

Just downloaded this and love to see 3rd party developers not only doing Apple's job for them - but make it past the app approval process. I sincerely hope this one doesn't get pulled by Apple.

It's pretty useful for comparing content - prices etc, especially when there is too much data to easily memorise, as well as for things like writing a google doc will conducting research online.

Thanks for the explanation. I really couldn't see a use case for this. I do most of my shopping on my iPhone. Peek and pop is beyond useful here. This I could see though.

Company Philosophies:

Samsung -
Throw everything at a wall and see what sticks.
This is true for a lot of Asian electronic companies. The variety of electronics from Sony, JVC, Panasonic and others in Japan are daunting.

Apple -
Build the wall.
More like "Build what people want from knowing the customer more than the customer knows them-self."

Doing what Apple and a lot of other forwarding thinking companies is a daunting task where you need to have a culture of near-sedition to find the sweet spot of future markets. Nothing in your corporate culture is sacred nor is your boss nor any previous successful action.

You have to be constantly re-evaluating where you are and what is next. It is a rough business that tears at the soul of many cultured in a social hierarchy. No wonder the hippies and the counter-culture came on top in the technology game.
