You're right it doesn't affect safari but it's not really designed for other browsers to use. It's designed for other apps to briefly display web content. Eg you click a link in Facebook and rather than take you out of the app to Safari, Facebook built a simple browser with a web view and some controls. Now Apple want people to use the safari controller. Similar in that it doesn't take you out of the app but now it's more familiar and you get auto fill etc.

Now whether creating an app which is solely this safari view is against the rules I don't know, but it's certainly not what it was designed for

I did actually have this idea a few weeks ago but lack gumption :D
My understanding is that it was designed for other third party browsers to adopt and use as well as it's the better and more up to date web view controller/container than the previously existing one (and one that still exists) that the third party browsers use.

No the web view still exists which browsers and apps can develop their own UI over. The safari view includes the UI etc so it's not really for genuine browsers who presumably want to create their own UI experience (see chrome etc)

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of WKWebView vs. UIWebView, while Safari View Controller is yet another piece of the puzzle (so to say).

yeah correct. WK is the updated one from last year which is faster. That is just a web view no UI etc.

The even newer safari view this year, which this new app uses, includes UI elements very similar to safari and is really only designed to complement apps and not be the only thing about it. That's why I have doubts about how long it will stay in the store. perhaps Apple really don't mind and also imagined/expected this, but it's also fair to say it wasn't really designed for this.

When I first started using iOS 9, I wanted to do some side by side comparisons of some benchmarks with Safari, and see if using more than one instance caused a slowdown (to see how many cores were being utilized). I ended up direct messaging myself the Google.com link with the Twitter app, so that it would open up a Safari web view, so that I essentially had a "dual window" Safari... Which prompted me to make a quick app very similar to Sidefari. I had doubts if Apple would want to approve such an app, but it is a lot better than using another app to "fake" this as I was doing.

Now of course I'm disappointed I didn't try making a polished app sooner. I wouldn't worry too much about it being removed from the store, even if it is, this type of app will be easily sideloaded with open source versions on Github (if you have a Mac to install it, that is).

I don't understand why Apple did not enable multitasking for my iPad Air. It isn't that old a device. Is it because of the processor? Or because they want me to upgrade? And why no multitasking on the iPhone 6S? Isn't that the faster processor?:(

Because this is Apple... The only way they can assure income in the future is: new products or... making the old ones obsolete by withholding features and slowing your device down with OS updates.

Guess which one is easier, cheaper, and a more reliable way to get money from your wallet?

Sure they say it's about the "user experience". I don't buy it. Only a moron would buy that.

Why did they give the iPad Air slideover? Would've made it even *more* obsolete to give it nothing at all, right? How about picture in picture video? Did the Sr. VP of Obsolescence miss that meeting and it got by him?

See.

FWIW, I'm noticing better battery using Sidefar to play YouTube videos on right while on the left browsing web compare to using Safari & Chrome...

Someone is going to make bank for 15 minutes of work.

And Apple will get their cut. Kinda makes me wonder why Apple skips out on SO MANY ways to allow their products to be so much better...only to allow other paid apps to do what Apple's products should be doing already. Maybe after the money stops coming in, Apple will fix it to where their products will be able to do things like this.

Hah, I was just a couple days away from uploading my own which is very similar, even the icon I made is. Oh well. Maybe i'll still finish it and provide another option (possibly free too until it can be made better).
Go ahead man, I'm a little busy all of the sudden... Just let me know when its up!
