As I am not a big fan of google products too much, have not tried Gemini but after using other LLMs for few months now, Claude is most trustworthy and it is great with complex tasks, research and documents, where it has a gap is in image generation, where I use chatgpt, was really trying to make Grok work but that would be my third option from these but let's see what Gemini can do but privacy is a real concern. Overall it feels like Claude is becoming leader in business and Gemini in private use overall

To think that Apple spent all those billions on a concept car that never got built, when they could've been developing their own AI. It shows how badly out of touch Apple have become when they can't even pick an AI partner with confidence. Steve would be rolling in his grave. They have really dropped the ball big time on this. What a crying shame.

Apple generates roughly half a billion in profits each and every day.

Billions of dollars spent on car research somehow looks a lot less important with that context.

Are they out of touch? No. A bit out of step? Sure. But with AI that may wind up being extremely helpful.

Sometimes being late is the very best thing that could happen.

Reminds me of when Apple used YouTube, during inception of the iPad.

Then, when they (Apple) no longer needed them, they kicked them to the curb.

Apple is ruthless.
Didn't Google (YouTube, as hard to believe this was pre-Google) just not renew the license for the YouTube app because they were developing a version for the App Store? The stock YouTube app was developed by Apple, and YouTube wanted to take ownership back on the platform.

I hope they leave an option for us to turn this off! I do not want any of this crap on my phone, in my home, or in my life...
I mean you don’t have to use it. I don’t use Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy s25 ultra. I just wish the companies would focus on different things tho other then AI

Ai isn’t useful and all it does is waste resources and inflate prices.

Specifically, it was because YouTube wanted to monetize the app. The version that Apple had made did not permit ads.

Almost hard to imagine YouTube pre-Google at this point 😂

Apple was "not going to use Google" for the revamped Siri until "a few months ago," he said.
Not sure why they need to rush out a beta in February instead of just waiting for WWDC at this point. Gurman still insists LLM Siri is coming in 26.4, but they have only had a few months to throw it together. It may be a very rocky launch (as in Siri will tell you to eat no more than one small rock per a day).

Very good chance that Gurman is being needlessly sloppy and inaccurate here. Pretty good chance both Google and Anthropic were in a 'bake off' to get the slot for Siri. Intermediate wise Anthropic was winning placement in internal tools but for wide scale deployment costs matter (since likely have to pay to deploy at much larger scale).

It isn't like Apple went totally Anthropic and then last minute just started with Google. Both were likely in play and being evaluated. So it isn't particularly 'last minute' switch to a different 'horse'. More so declare the winner at the finish line.

If Apple is using Claude for software development then a decent chance XCode may get some 'Claude stuff' also at WWDC that has synergy with the internal stuff they use. All of that deployment internal by Claude (and porting to Apple servers) isn't necessarily wasted... just not directed at general end users. That is a sane move.

Google's solution may not be the 'billions' cheaper either if Apple is going to spill-over AI workload to Google Cloud for the general market. And Apple probably doesn't have hardware to scale Claude at the largest model footprint up to orders of magnitude of Apple product end users.

The greatly expanded scope Siri of OS27 is the more likely "very rocky launch" option. Bigger scope with larger feature set also likely comes with more potential bugs.

P.S. Other reports are that OpenAI just refused to port their stuff to Apple Servers. So they were 'out' of the bake off. But it adds to the evidence that there was a 'bake off' if Apple was asking multiple vendors to all participate.

I would prefer Claude over a data-stealing company.

APPLE claims Siri will be secure even though Gemini is part of Google Everybody knows Google is anything but secure or private
Time will tell

That's how I feel about all tech these days.

Even if Apple delivers a very capable Siri, it's still going to feel underwhelming. We already know what it will be able to do since it's running on Gemini. This is just Apple playing catch-up. Gemini Siri won't be revolutionary or even evolutionary. Underwhelming indeed.
It’s just the Gemini LLM, not Gemini chat. It will be running on Apple infrastructure even it is hosted in Google or other clouds.

Copilot does this already.

All is is kinda amusing given that there quite a few of us who don't want any AI/machine learning in our phones ... I wonder if in future we shall have to pay extra to no AI?

If you cancel MS Office365 with Copilot bundled into the price, you are then given the option to buy Office with the features turned off for less money. It is 'hidden' behind a "cancel the whole thing" button (as oppose to "turn off that stuff I don't want" button), so it may not be easy to do.

For the phones, more likely there will be a 'pay for more queries/features' button, but just have to pay for the minimums. (even if don't use any iCloud Drive 5GB ... still paying. ).

FaceID is machine learning. Zero usage isn't really happening.

When they knew they were having AI troubles they could've just bought Anthropic.

Nope. This is up there with Apple should just do their own silicon manufactur directy and skipping TSMC (or anyone else). The training costs for Anthropic are large enough that over the long term Apple couldn't fund the purely internally all by themselves. Anthropic is not turning a profit on the current sized user base. If you make the user base substantially smaller that is just even more likely a permanent state.

splitting the training costs over a wide set of actually paying customers lower the individual costs to more manageable levels. Plus Anthropic isn't operating on Apple's privacy constraints. Neither is any other major player.

That's a bummer. Echoing the feelings the Claude is MUCH better than Gemini for me, as a user right now. Looks like they know that too, if they're using Claude Code internally for their product developments. Hopefully this is just a speed bump and we get an Apple + Anthropic partnership eventually.

Maybe once the political winds change and Apple + Google get in the monopoly hot seat again.
