With the rumors of the "cost optimized" version of Apple TV coming, my guess is it's the same as the existing remote, but in a plastic body and without touch controls on the circle.

this is the so called new cheaper material apple tv that is like a stick
dont expect new remote for apple tv

I would like it if they made the menu button have Touch ID. That way when you go to use Apple TV it could log into the appropriate family members profile for a personalised experience :)

Looks like an Apple TV HD replacement, but why an other remote? Only thing that would make sense is an apple branded gaming controller, but seeing the Kuo report, I don’t think it will be aimed at gaming that much
Apple TV HD replacement must cost dramatically less, $99 on the high-end, ideally less. $59 remote isn't going to help Apple achieve lower price point.

I suspect the new remote will be based on $19 Apple Remote, updated with additional buttons and a Siri microphone.

Having said that, I would love Apple gaming controller.

If the Siri Remote is being updated, I would love (1) UWB for Find My, (2) MagSafe or USB-C charging, and (3) accelerometer.

Can we have a new Siri Remote with Air tags embedded in them. I'm tired of losing mine around the house.
honestly this would be the biggest improvement i can think of. I can't imagine it'd be that hard to integrate. I think elago has a remote case with a compartment for an air tag. just seems like the logical next step.

Ultimate apple remote.
Backlit Buttons
Buttons in a more sensible configuration
Easy feel buttons to tell what they are
Motion control like the LG remote
Find My built in
USB-C / Wireless charging
touch wheel that worked in all apps
These are interesting. I think my top picks in this list are the find my (obviously), touch wheel, and backlit buttons.

I'm one of those rare users that pairs a Xbox controller with the AppleTV to play games. There have been some pretty entertaining games on Apple Arcade.

I would really love to see Apple give the AppleTV a bit more GPU love. The appleTV has to in many cases drive a 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 display. Its the highest resolution of any Apple Silicon device and the games suffer a bit because of this. Oceanhorn 2 is an example of this. Works very well on my iPhone and iPad Pro but looks much worse on my AppleTV.

I think the AppleTV has a ton of potential as a gaming console if Apple can fix this and give it a lot more power to play higher end games like the new Diablo Immortal. Works great on my XDR M1 iPad Pro.

Now I realize that might drive up the cost of the AppleTV but its really holding it back. Maybe they can make a higher level model with a M1 that costs more to appeal to the serious gamers. Only difference being the higher end CPU and GPU. I would care about that a lot more than a new remote.

iOS 16 includes code-level references to what appears to be a new and unreleased version of the Siri Remote for the Apple TV.
Well it should be apparent why Apple might do this per yesterday topic
Apple's ‌iOS 16‌ preview webpage suggested that the ‌iPad‌ would not be able to be used as a home hub, but it was not confirmed until now because in the first ‌iPadOS 16‌ beta, it was still possible to set an ‌iPad‌ as a home hub. "Only ‌Apple TV‌ and HomePod are supported as home hubs," reads the website.

Really hope the new remote is slimmer than the current option. Would love to have some sort of trackpad on the top half. A Siri button on the front would be nice. And if Apple is really designing a new remote, I hope they offer a black/space grey option! The silver remote sticks out like a sore thumb. :/

Here's hoping!

A low cost AppleTV would certainly help grow the platform. But I think it’ll need something more (maybe greater tie-in with Arcade?)

Many have simply bought cheaper Firesticks or Chromecasts instead. Add to that the fact that AppleTV+ is now included in many of the newer smartTVs.

It take me out but dumps me in the home screen, not where I was (plex usually)
Are you sure you are hitting the < button and not the TV button? And just press it once quickly, and do not it in. If you hold it in, it goes to the Home Screen. A quick press will just cancel Siri.

I just tried it in Plex and it works just fine.

I would guess it’s adding Find My features? Maybe they had a couple of design tweaks, but I would bet they’re small, if at all.

I’ve owned every version of Apple TV and don’t really like the latest remote. It’s clunky. Maybe they’ll start selling the remote separate and have different options. You don’t actually need a remote if you use your phone or iPad and old remotes work on newer devices.

I would think it would be a revised remote and not just a budget version, otherwise it would be strange to refer to it as the Siri Remote 4. That would be like the 2022 iPhone SE being called the iPhone 14.

Seems like the latest remote is pretty solid, so I wouldn't expect a big change. Hoping a higher end Apple TV is released soon. The 4K 2nd gen only getting A12 wasn't a big enough jump from A10X for me, so I skipped that one. Bring on an M-series Apple TV!

I hope they redesign this alleged new remote. The edges are too sharp and the buttons don’t feel premium enough to me.

Quieter button clicks please!
I see that the days of reasonableness are now gone. I tried to cut a cucumber with the edges of the remote and it wasn't sharp enough. If the remote can't double as a kitchen appliance, then what good is it?

I'm trying to figure out how to make the buttons feel more premium. I think that covering them with gold leaf might be the answer. If you don't have premium feeling buttons on a remote, it isn't worth using.

Quieter buttons? You bet. My neighbor called the cops on me as the button click was so loud, it was hurting his ears. It measured 0.06 db.

I'm pretty sure that "Siri Remote 4" reference is for internal software references only. They don't call the other remotes 1/2/3.

I always know I'm in the minority on this, but with a silicone case on it, I vastly prefer the older remotes (glass trackpad one). Buttons are quiet...trackpad is large and smooth and very enjoyable to use.

About all I wish it had is that new mute button.

That said, I really don't like that same remote without the silicone case.
The case makes the whole thing work for me

The second gen Apple remote is definitely an improvement, but still isn't great. If they want to take a another stab at it, then great. Third time's a charm.

I'd like to see them move the Siri button, add wireless charging, and add airTag support.

Another remote? How much is a remote worth in materials that it affects an entire product? I mean, I know it can, but that much?
If you look at the other streaming boxes they all have cheap feeling plastic remotes with rubbery buttons. Maybe Apple has designed a plastic remote too that shaves off a few dollars. There is precedent (the 1st gen Apple TV shipped with a white plastic remote).

I want customizable buttons on the Apple TV Remote. I haven't needed a mute button in 20 years, but it is more prominently placed than play/pause on the most recent remote. I often hit it by accident in the dark. I'd like to make it into a second play/pause button to avoid this.

I'm happy to have the mute button, but I wish they had placed it underneath the volume buttons. That would have been logical. But of course it would have destroyed the sacred symmetry.
