I hope the siri button on the side goes away. It gets hit all the time by accident and there is no clean way to get back to what you were watching, you have to go back to the 'home' screen then go back to the app. Getting rid of it on the phone would be great for me too
I have managed to stop hitting it all the time finally. I think if you just tap it again, Siri goes away.

Are you sure you are hitting the < button and not the TV button? And just press it once quickly, and do not it in. If you hold it in, it goes to the Home Screen. A quick press will just cancel Siri.

I just tried it in Plex and it works just fine.
I'm guessing you have siri turned on in the 'general' menu of settings. Does the little 'siri' icon show and ask what you want? If so, it's turned on. Mine is off. When I touch the button, the entire screen changes (not the little icon) to a search screen and the back takes you back to home, not the app you were in. I guess I could just turn siri on but it would be nice if I turned it off ... that the button would do nothing

I see that the days of reasonableness are now gone. I tried to cut a cucumber with the edges of the remote and it wasn't sharp enough. If the remote can't double as a kitchen appliance, then what good is it?

I'm trying to figure out how to make the buttons feel more premium. I think that covering them with gold leaf might be the answer. If you don't have premium feeling buttons on a remote, it isn't worth using.

Quieter buttons? You bet. My neighbor called the cops on me as the button click was so loud, it was hurting his ears. It measured 0.06 db.
I agree with the original poster, your

Hou have to push it twice to make it go away.

Apple TV HD replacement must cost dramatically less, $99 on the high-end, ideally less. $59 remote isn't going to help Apple achieve lower price point.

I suspect the new remote will be based on $19 Apple Remote, updated with additional buttons and a Siri microphone.

Having said that, I would love Apple gaming controller.

If the Siri Remote is being updated, I would love (1) UWB for Find My, (2) MagSafe or USB-C charging, and (3) accelerometer.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

$99 at the high end?
More like $129, and even that’s being generous.

Yes. I have Siri on. When it’s not on, it is not the “Siri” button but a general search button, and, for me, is not useful.

Edit: I have never just pushed the button. I have always pushed it and held it down. I see that one push takes me to the general search, even when I have Siri enabled. I’m always learning.

Yeah, probably naive on my part. But I don't really see the point of Apple releasing a cheaper stick-form "Apple TV mini" at a price point higher than $99. $129 vs. $179 isn't substantial enough of a saving.

If you look at the other streaming boxes they all have cheap feeling plastic remotes with rubbery buttons. Maybe Apple has designed a plastic remote too that shaves off a few dollars. There is precedent (the 1st gen Apple TV shipped with a white plastic remote).
That white plastic remote has been more resilient than one would think. Mine still works on certain IR devices.

Just press the button a 2nd time and it goes away.

Plot Twist: It's a remote for a new HomePod, with a home entertainment focus.

HomePods already run tvOS. Just one step further to have them show the UI on nearby TVs.

The shift in home strategy will have HomePods control all entertainment, and AirPlay to TVs around the house. HomePod is the brain, TVs are just the display.

You can buy a Siri Remote sold separately, to control a HomePod with a remote, instead of by voice or the remote app. For TVs that don't have AirPlay built in, Apple will sell an AirPlay Stick which can also work with the Siri Remote.

I've owned every AppleTV and I've never been thrilled with any of them -- but they were ok -- I used them. This latest version is a nightmare. I chucked it in a drawer and won't bring it out again until I sell this AppleTV. What am I using instead? Well, my Samsung Serif remote. It works perfectly. I actually just kinda started using and one day I was like wow -- this is an awesome AppleTV remote. It does everything I need comfortably and effectively and it's so good I never think twice about using it. It's simply a remote that works just fine. The team that works on the AppleTV remote needs assigned to something else and they need a new team to come in with no design history and most importantly preconceived notions of a buttonless future from Steve. Start over!

I just want to be able to use two Siri remotes at the same time on one AppleTV. Is that too much to ask?

I am happy to see some Apple TV rumors that do not have a "+" in them.

It seems like Apple has abandon the Apple TV and tvOS sometimes.

The latest Apple TV model was released in April 2021 with a new Siri Remote that features a more practical design than the previous remote.
While the design might be more practical for streaming apps, the new Siri Remote 2 is missing sensors that the Siri Remote 1 had, making the new remote unable to be used by many games.

I hope in the come back of accelerometer and gyroscope!
Yeah, me too.

It is strange that Apple would release a new Siri Remote that cannot be used on a lot of existing apps. If the Siri Remote 2 was on a cheaper ATV that was more geared toward streaming, this would make sense, but the ATV4K2 is the same price as the ATV4K1, just comes with a less capable remote.

wireless charging and USBC please.

im quite happy otherwise.

id actually really like it to NOT have an AirTag built in, maybe a spot to attach it? or a case?

Another remote redesign? I don’t have the latest one, but is that one bad too? I thought I had read that it was a massive improvement over the touch pad one.
