Macitynet.it reports that Apple has seeded developers with a new version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The latest build is said to be 10A261. The prior version of Snow Leopard delivered to developers was in December (build 10A222).

According to Macity's sources, the latest version does not appear to contain any noticable changes but does seem more stable (translated):
The interface has not been revised and currently there are only small changes in System Preferences, have been resolved a few bugs in the Finder and little else. According to the sources of Macity the impression is that this release is more reliable than those previously distributed.
Apple has been rumored to be tweaking the user interface in Snow Leopard prior to its public release.

Snow Leopard is the codename for the next major revision of Mac OS X. Apple has said that they would be focusing on quality and performance in Snow Leopard. In particular, Apple has made it clear that there will be efforts to improve support for multi-core processors and GPU processing. These improvements will help developers more efficiently use these capabilities that already ship in Macs.

More reliable is always better. I have to believe, though, that if they're updating the UI, that we'd have seen something in a release by now. Even if it can only be turned on via some hidden preference.

Good to see - it's been quiet of late.

Who here's betting we'll see Google Latitude integration in Snow leopard and OS 3.x iPhone? :)

It's getting closer ....

exactly what I was thinking. Though, 10.5.6 is getting there. I think 10.5.7 will be even better (as one would hope) but it's quite important to remember that. When 10.5.0 came out, people were going crazy about stability.

Rule is; unless you want the gamble, join the party at 10.X.5

The odd thing was I used leopard right from .0, and I never had any troubles apart from the odd crash here and there that is expected of an OS at some time... (And for those of you who say there should be no crashes, I use software in beta some of the time, so crashes are fine)

And was it called 10.5.0? or just 10.5?

I'm not a beta tester/developer but I've experienced the same as you with Leopard. I purchased it when it first came out and the problems I experienced were very small.

i cant wait for SL. I do hope they tweak the interface, i want something a bit fresh looking, nothing wrong with the current look tough.

i am holding back my macbook purchase as far as possible in hope that i can qualify for a free update.

i read that SL will be out sometime late Q2 or early Q3 '09, but i need to get a new laptop in March for uni. Do you guys think i would qualify for a free update?

BTW, i notice that for the 10.4 & 10.5, Apple released them on my bday - 29 April :)

I've used the past 3 OS's from the first week they were released and I've not had any real major issues with any of them. The only real issue I had was with Time Machine in Leopard, but it was fixed after 10.5.2... so no worries there.

You can't possibly compare odd crashes in an OS to odd crashes in beta software. It is NOT expected to happen in something that controls your entire software environment.
