Safari

I used Firefox and really missed Safari. I love syncing my bookmarks with my iPhone and all my other Macs. And it is super fast. I didn't see any plugins for Firefox that was very interesting to switch. I'll continue to look at Firefox with each upgrade to see if they ever make it better than Safari for me.

I use Safari primarily...maybe 98% of the time. I use Opera 1.5% of the time and Firefox maybe 0.5% of the time. Safari works great and is decently speedy. Opera renders the most websites and renders them accurately. Firefox is good but a bit redundant with the other two browsers. I don't care about adorns/plugins.

Safari All the Way

Whenever I'm on my mac it's always Safari. When I'm forced to use a PC at work, I lament after having to suffer with M$'s offerings. (PCs are locked down, we don't have a choice of alternate browsers like firefox or opera.)

I'm using Safari now, but I notice no speed increase over Firefox. I just figure if I'm going to go with a Mac, why not go all the way?!

The one thing I miss about Firefox is the add-on called "Track Me Not," which keeps Google from crawling too far up my keyster by sending out a lot of false searches. Gotta keep 'em guessing...

I've been struggling with this too - I love FireFox in Windows, but it hangs and is just kind of buggy in OS X (at least compared to Safari) - but Safari 3 beta has it's issues too (I miss some of my plugins, I miss Ad Block Plus - even if the Good Vibrations CSS template is really nice) - even with Saft (I'll have to check out Inquisitor). Camino seemed really promising to me at first but ultimately it just hasn't been as nice or comfortable as Safari 3 (and was less customizable than the description made it seem). I actually had to install Opera today to get something working on my router's set-up page (for some reason, both FireFox in Windows and Safari in OS X have issues applying certain changes because of however the javascript function was written into the hardware - IE 7 works on Windows, but it took Opera for me to get it working in OS X) - but other than that one issue - I can't ever see myself using it. I tried Flock in Windows and was left unimpressed.

So for me - I'm still trying to find a way to get Safari to be as customizable in a few areas as FireFox, but without some of the rendering issues. We'll see.

I say install FireFox and a few (but only a few) good plugins and then have Safari 3 Beta installed too. I can't recommend Camino yet because even though it touts itself as the perfect middle man beween Safari and FF, it doesn't fill the gap well enough to best either one.

This kind of thread always opens up a can of worms.

Personally, I think Safari is pretty, but not powerful enough for my needs.

Instead I use Firefox with a metal theme installed, to give it that 'Apple look'. Firefox is better for me because it is far more compatible than Safari - none of the 'your browser is not supported' errors - which I frequently get with Safari. It also features better RSS handling - especially in the Bookmarks Toolbar. Being able to install useful addons such as 'Adblock' are a huge bonus, as is customising the look of the interface. And knowing that Firefox on a Mac runs just the same as Firefox on a PC is useful in my multiplatform work environment. I also find that there is no real difference in performance between the two browsers, but I prefer the way that Firefox loads slower pages.

When I first switched I used safari, however I found it not to be stable so in the end I went with firefox, which is better but not quite the same as the Windows version (some small differences).

Some of the things in the new safari are neat, firefox will copy them soon enough.

I really like the current Safari 3 Beta, but FireFox's addons work so well that I can't live without them. Specifically, SearchStatus, Adblock, BugMeNot, and GreaseMonkey.

Safari 3 loads pages much quicker, however, and launches faster. Additionally, Safari 3 has a MUCH better search function when searching through text.

FireFox is what I use though.

I don't really have any add-ons but my favorite browser is omniweb sadly at this point i'm not closing it or logging out at all because my demo will expire if I do. Hopefully it will become free soon though, and I hadn't heard anyone else bring it up soooooooooooo... yea. :apple:

I use Safari for nearly everything, in those very rare occasions when it doesn't work as expected I use Camino.

Same.

Edit: I'm using Safari 2.0.4. I'll use the finished Safari 3. No reason to switch really, 2.0.4 works just fine.

Firefox 2.x, Shiira 1.2.2, and Opera in that order.

I'm using Firefox 3 alpha 8 at the moment to post this and it's quite nice but not quite ready.

I use Camino 99% of the time with no problems at all! It is lightweight and fast. If you just do normal browsing it has everything you could want, and it looks nice!

Both holes

I use both Safari and Firefox--roughly divided by Safari for leisure and Firefox for work... not sure why--I guess it's just easier to keep the 2 workspaces separate.

safari, for these reasons:

1) lovely, clean interface

2) nice tab function

3) find function rocks- apple-f and type in something and it grays everything out so you can focus on your find

4) opens nearly instantly (on newer macs anyway)

Add another for Safari. I have Firefox, but I like Safari much better because I find it's faster to load. Since I have yet to find a page that won't work with Safari, I haven't had the need to use Firefox. If that day ever comes, I'll have the comfort of knowing Firefox is there to rescue me.

does anyone know if Safari
1. Has or will have the Stumble Upon Ad-on
2. Has or has something similar to No-Scipt
3. Has or will have McAfee SiteAdvisor

if you need extensions and themes, firefox is non-replaceable.

A year ago, I gave chance to all browsers, safari, shiira, opera, omniweb, icab, camino, etc, eventually, only firefox stays, safari offers too few features and functions. It is weak at: all functions related to tabs, single window modes, flexible ads blocker, pop-up white list, same-site-multiple-passwords management. cookie manager, etc, etc,

I know safari's strength is system integration, color management, but Im not photographer, it really doesn't matter to me at all.

not in 10 years

most safari's addon are at www.pimpmysafari.com 77 of them, (firefox has 2000+). and I m not sure if safari's mechanism of addons is stable. there are several addons that can offer some very important functions like "single window mode" or "adblock".

PS. there are some addons that you can BUY for safari. most frequently mentioned being "saft"

Firefox - not much i have to say about firefox, we all know it kicks ass

Lies! Damned lies!

I use Webkit nightlies at the moment. I used to be a big Shiira fan, but I didn't like the direction 2.0 was heading in, and the character encoding bug in 1.x finally got to be too irritating. I guess Demeter could win me back, but I can't really be bothered switching again.

I use Firefox almost exclusively. Safari doesn't work properly with Gmail, and I'm not fond of the Safari UI overall. Firefox is quite slow to load, but I keep it up for days at a time with no trouble, so it doesn't matter.
