Other than what the user NightFox said, there are a couple more reasons.
I don't want my movie, tv series, gaming, music, entertainment be hostage to either my internet connection, the internet in general, servers being online when I want to entertain myself, licenses. Also I want to own a copy and not just the rights to a stream or DRMed download. If I own a physical copy, or DRM-FREE download, good luck having these companies taking away that (the movie, etc) from me.

EDIT: To clarify, I don't pay for any streaming nor will I ever pay for any streaming.
our internet has been out for over a week now due to storms (melb, aus)

we have a Plex server with all our physical media on it

watching my neighbours lose their **** cos “no Netflix” has been priceless

Dont get me wrong... but why is all AppleTV+ content so virtue signalling (I hate that phrase).. what I mean is theres no fun stuff, no fun Sci Fi, its all so high-brow.

I started watching Invasion this morning and it is pretty normal SciFi stuff - good so far (2 episodes in - still foreshadowing).

Watched it last night, very well done. I was optimistic when Amblin played across the opening! I compared it to Moon with Sam Rockwell, which I also very much enjoyed.

I'm 5 episodes in and it still is "foreshadowing" or at least building plot and character but very little action. Really well made but you better not jump in expecting an aliens attack Earth movie. The aliens seem to be the smallest plot line.

A year and a half into a pandemic I really don't want dystopia right now. :/
Watched it last night. It was actually kind of a feel good post-apocalyptic movie if that's possible. Probably too slow for younger kids but it was a family-friendly end of the world story.

I've noticed about 70% of the movies being released are about the end of the world.

This one isn't all that good either.

I was in the Apple store last night and this movie was advertised on all the “tester” phones and computers.

It was a really interesting method of cross advertising. And it worked - I hadn’t heard of the movie and looked it up to figure out why it was featured so prominently in a hardware store.

I used to feel the same, back before home video even existed. I used to buy Hollywood studios and movie theaters just so I could watch whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

Can I just ask why you want to buy it in Blu-Ray instead of watching it on Apple TV+? I mean if you have an Apple TV 4k this can stream in Dolby Vision.
4K blu ray is uncompressed video and audio unlike streaming which has much lower bitrate and lossy audio. Apple TV+ does have a higher bitrate than other streaming services and does look better, however it’s no match for a disc.

It started off great. Then got painfully sappy. A bit or pointless drama before the third act that could have been completely cut without affecting the “story” in any way. Basically nothing happens. I was not great. Too bad as again, it seemed awesome at first. The rock truck scene was amazing. And the various storms. Then it just gets sappy and dumb and basically goes nowhere.

It was a good watch. Nothing particularly new and it’s a bit formulaic, but still… it’s Tom Hanks, a dog and robot. The real star is the robot.

I’d give it a B-

The robot only got 70% of his "brain" downloaded before they had to leave town due to storm. Guess that explains why it was a little slow on the uptake, but Hanks, with much patience, trained it somewhat. Hopefully good enough to take care of a dog at the end of the world. The dog seems ok with the new arraignment, so all ends well. I guess any sequel will explore the robot and the dog and their new relationships more fully. Yawn....lol. But it was ok for free movie.

"Worthy" or "Aspirational" also comes to mind. Perhaps ATV+ is the antique brown furniture of Video - worthy but dull. As Haydn is for Classical Music.

Mind you I do like some of it.

Invasion especially. WAY to much buildup and wasted screen time. Foundation I am struggling with also.

I watched the first two episodes of Invasion then gave up. I just can't get interested in the UK kid (plays like a rerun of Grange Hill), the Asian family (seen too many US post apocalypse series) or the folksy sheriff. The Japanese were interesting and the Marine. So 2/5. Maybe there is a USP for this series - but not obvious.

Foundation is much better but even then there's too much overacting from the second female lead (Hari Seldon's sidekick).
