Even I can tell you this is not going to happen

Apple has SO MUCH at stake with its iPhone and releasing anything with it that will get on the way is just NON-SENSE ... look for the new iPods a few months after iPhone. I will buy a drink if I am wrong. The real questions is, what else will be updated along with the iPhone, and here I bid that they will update the MacBook Pro 15" with LED and Santa Rosa ... :D

ipod after iphone?

the ipod will be a secondary release to the iphone, reason? the huge buzz from the iphone will be used to bring customers in to the apple stores. i suspect that may customers will simply come to see it an not buy it due to price and avaiability. so if all the iphones are going to be souldout for x amount of time then people will need something to "hold them over" till they can get one, enter the new ts ipod. i makes sence since there needs to be something for people to be excited about after they find that they can't get an iphon for 6 months. otherwise there will be a negative image of apple in the consumers minds. also with poeple comming into apple stores daily to check on availibility there is a huge consumer pool being exposed to other items in the apple stores. also there needs to be a new ipod soon so i can get one with the edu discount in 3 months ;)

Since we're all just speculating here, I think Apple looks at the iPhone and the upcoming touchscreen iPod serving two different markets and isn't worried about sales of one hurting the other, but looks at the iPhone adding additional sales they would not otherwise get from those who only want one device as a phone and to play some music. Most of you on this forum seem like audiophiles and an iPhone will not cut it because of the size of your audio library.

Apple's bread and butter are their investment in the music and now video markets and I think the touchscreen iPod will be announced/released as soon as possible after the iPhone. The only delay I believe there may be is where the iPhone bugs that are being ironed out affect the touchscreen iPod.

How's this for a BOLD prediction:
1) Shortly after the iPhone release, Apple will announce three versions of the touchscreen iPod. A 40GB and a 100GB version. The third version will be positioned more as an iPod/Internet Tablet and will feature 100GB, WiFi, BT, Safari, and possibly the Mail application.

And no, you can’t have any of what I’m smoking.

Full screen iPod is inevitable, but I agree with an earlier poster that it can't happen til Christmas:

(1) It will confuse and detract from the iPhone launch
(2) I see it being co-ordinated in an event with the launch of iTMS movies in Europe towards the end of the year. Maybe a late Nov/early Dec launch for both?

Argh...I WANT IT NOW!!!
