Its prob full screen with touch controls.....

Heh. iLounge actually did update their story and although they didn't say what exactly MS showed off, they did report that the reaction was more along the lines of "Oh, that's interesting", more than "Wow! That's amazing!".

The long-standing rumor is that it's simply a Flash-based Zune to compete with the Nano.

looks like this was a fake after all. oh well, such is life...although i heard from an unconfirmed source (a friend of a cousin of an aunt's dogs previous owner's boyfriend) that there's definately a new ipod coming out in two days << you heard it here first. :p

P.S
I think you mean "psych!"

well obviously you understood what he meant so why feel the need to correct him? to make yourself feel more authoritive? it does wind me up when people spell check posts. if you read it and understand it then thts all that matters surely, its only a forum.

Look. There's probably no one here who would love for this to be true more than myself. My trusty 4G 40GBer just failed late last week, an apparent catastrophic logic board thrombosis. I'm looking at buying a new 5.1G to replace it, but then that blows my planned replacement cycle which had been to replace it this Fall when the new devices came out. Not much chance I'll get a $400 new iPod past the spousal awareness net while holding a 3-month-old iPod in hand!

I know you didn't ask for advice, but, I'm in much the same situation and I bought a Nano to tide myself over until the next cool large-format iPod comes out. I'm very happy with it--sounds good, battery lasts forever, and it seems almost indestructible.

As annoying as it might be, it actually can be a benefit to someone. The original poster might have honestly not known it was "psych" (which is completely understandable; if it's something you've only heard in conversation, you wouldn't necessarily have a reason to know how it is spelled, etc.). Now this person knows the correct spelling, so they can use it properly in the future if they wish to.

Personally when someone corrects a misspelling of mine, I don't take offense, because it helps me to avoid those mistakes in the future. I'd rather someone just told me I was misspelling something rather than continue to let me use the same misspellings over and over again.

I think ThinkSecret's heyday is over. Ever since Apple sued them and tried to subpoena those sources' identities (that was over the Mac Mini leak, right?), and now that Nick DePlume's real identity is known, real sources are probably a lot more wary of giving them any information.

This is absurd. No ipod, no new imacs, theres no way that touch screen ipod will come at wwdc we will have to wait till sepetember or october, leopard is in october and theres no solid info on new imacs. my g5 is dead and im am desperate for a new machine. Come on Apple. My imac shouldnt have dies anyway but the fact that it did has reallly peeed me off.

grr at apple. thanks for thinking about the rest of the world. just because the us gets the iphone doesnt mean you should neglect your other markets.

i feel so let down by apple as a whole at the moment. videa store and iphone the two best things out of apple recently and neither outside the us. thanks apple :(

I tend to agree Thinksecret's time is over, they haven't got one decent rumor in the last few months... Unless Thinksecret's is getting fed a whole heap of bogus information because of the Nick DePlume thing.

There is always next week- fingers crossed.

I think everything across the board (ipods, MB, MBP, iMac & Mac Pros) aren't going to budge or change until WWDC. You heard it hear first:p .

I'm quite chuffed nothing new was released. Just bought an 80gb iPod. IMO I don't think we'll be seeing an iPhone like iPod for a while. I think the next step is the 100gb HDD, pure and simple. How can you even improve on the iPod? Short of sticking in unnecessary features like Bluetooth or integrated radio.

I don't think Apple has any choice but to release some sort of iPhone-like iPod (that is, basic iPhone form factor and interface, but with a full hard drive and no cell phone stuff).

As it is, Apple has managed to do what none of their competitors could; make the current 5G iPod seem obsolete.

I never really liked the 5G enough to warrant purchase.

I bought a 3G iPod, and after a few months of the 4G's release, I said I would by the next version. I really want space for my library, but the price does not justify it. I would rarely watch video, and the slimmer form factor isn't THAT important to me. I really just craved a clear colour screen, battery life and a large HD.

The iPhone's iPod features have now blown me away so much that Apple really have to have them (or something equally cool) in the next iPod or I guess I'll probably be waiting another year or two until I'm just too desperate to have a new iPod.

Ya' know, unless there are real constraints (component shortages, incomplete software, product quality, etc.), Apple should release both the iPhone and a next-gen, top-of-the-line multi-touch iPod as soon as practical (possibly, even today!).

Marketing 101 suggests that you can manipulate demand and competition with features and pricing.

Who says Apple can't price this new iPod the same as (or more than) the iPhone?

Or include features in the new iPod that complement/enhance the AppleTV experience.

Or, maybe, two models of iPod with the iPhone priced in the middle.

In this way, the new iPods both compete with, and create demand for the iPhone (and AppleTV).

This would put Apple in the enviable position:

"If we're going to have strong competition (for these products), it may as well be from ourselves!"

I say, release 'em ASAP and never look back!

I suspect that some people will buy iPhones and iPods-- I know I will!

Dick

Is the iPod really an alternative to the iPhone? If someone wants a phone, iPod is obviously not an alternative. and if someone wants an hi-capacity mediaplayer, iPhone is not an alternative. And what about those people in Europe who wont be seeing the iPhone in 6 months? What about those people who already have a phone and who basically have no way to switch phones (or carriers)?

If Apple decides to hold back the iPod so it wouldn't "steal iPhones thunder", they would be screwing over a huge number of people. No, it would make sense to release a iPhone-derived iPod as soon as possible. And even IF it would cut some of the sales of the iPhone, it would still mean that people were buying an Apple-product, instead of competing product.

My guess? I would say that we will see a new iPod at the same time ITMS start selling DRM-free tracks. At that point Apple really needs to compete with their players, since the ITMS tie-in is reduced.
