I guess my optimism was well placed. Haha. Not going to say I was right until it’s actually announced, so I hope it’s coming. Love to have one. The mini is fantastic, but I think a newer version of the original would be something to really enjoy.

Such strange moves. As if they keep responding to the market instead of coming up with an overall vision. Not what I’m used to from Apple. Let’s see.
Yes, remember when other companies would copy Apple? Now it's the other way around. Thanks Tim!

I really wonder why Apple Engineers can't figure out a way to make the Apple TV communicate with 4 home pods for a decent surround sound experience.
That’s what I’m looking for. Maybe this will help. 2 HomePods in the front, 2 minis as satellite speakers.

In todays saturated market of smart home speakers, I’m really hoping Apple brings something new to the table with this. When the original HomePod launched, the Amazon Echo devices were already well established and Apple came in at a much higher price point giving people little reason to switch ecosystems unless they really wanted Apple over Amazon (which as it turns out is a pretty good reason considering the privacy issues from Amazon and Google).

What I would really like to see is an Apple soundbar 7.4.1 home theater system! Apple has been knocking out of the park with their sound engineering. It would be awesome to see what they can do on a bigger scale.

My HomeKit is nearly broken since I think the last 2-3 weeks.
Every device takes between 30 seconds to a whole minute to respond.

When I ask Siri to control something over my HomePod, she starts by waiting and not replying... then she says "this device is taking a long time to answer....." and then waiting.... and then it finally happens. It's not even an intermittent bug - it's been consistent.

Totally drives me crazy that they still haven't got the hang of this ecosystem after 8 years. EIGHT. YEARS.

My expectations suddenly became stellar when they said the HomeKit foundation had been partially rewritten in iOS 16 to be more reliable.
That's on you and your network. I have 3 OG HomePods, 1 mini and 2 Apple TV's and no issues, well an occasional issue, but no worse then smart things or google home when I ran them recently.

And the sound quality of the HomePods.

Such strange moves - based on a rumor? Maybe wait and see what's released?

And the love affair between the simple minded and Gurman the BSer and Guesser continues... Get a room, stop embarrassing yourselves in public. We don't want to watch this courtship any more...

apple should add WIFI mesh router feature and it will sell crazy well

I’ve long thought apple should have done mesh for the airport routers, and iMac as well.

My guess is it was the emergence of mesh that doomed the airport line.

It would be nice if it were bluetooth, in order to connect to something like a bedroom or kitchen TV. It's stupid that you would need to buy an Apple TV box, to get this to work with a TV. And even then, you can only watch something on Apple TV, not something through the cable box. My LG smart tv comes with the Apple TV app, so why buy a box? And a battery would be nice in order to not have to plug it in to an electric outlet.

Hope they keep the awesome sound quality from the OG. Have a feeling they might sacrifice a bit in order to lower the price to appeal the masses.

I'm really hoping my 3 HomePods don't crap out, but it seems it is a matter of when rather than if.

Apple will still be far behind in consumers home speakers wants. My Sonos PlayBar blows away any HomePod configuration for sound and quality. Apple integration of non-Apple speakers via AirPlay not a good experience. I am sending my dollars to a company that has a strong focus on speakers. Not a company who makes speakers as an after thought.
