Oh I know. That's why I ask that question. It doesn't happen. It hasn't happened.

Prove me wrong then. Like you, I choose not to spend the time to validate my assertion. Like you, I'd love to have my assertion proven wrong. So prove me wrong other than just offering your opinion that I am.

I have no interest in doing research because I know it doesn't happen. But, I would love to be proved wrong.

OK, so I'll counter with: I have no interest in doing research because I know it DOES happen. But I would love to be proved wrong.

That's just as easy for me to write and toss the "prove me wrong" ball to you. You don't want to put in the time to prove me wrong. I don't want to go dig through threads to find perfect examples to prove you wrong. You say it doesn't happen. I say it does. The crowd that frequents here knows for themselves which of us is right.

Apple tends to lead the flip flop swings of opinion. Here's 5 of them: http://www.techlicious.com/blog/5-big-flip-flops-from-apple/ In the times between when Apple comes out on one side of something and when they flip to the other, there's lots of people here commenting with Apple's stance at the time. If you, I or someone else wanted to go back and find perfect examples, these would also be a few good examples.

Personally, I don't even really care which of us could be proven right if someone did take the time, as the point remains the point: as soon as Apple rolls out these bigger-screen 6's, the bulk of all these posts about "too big", "need new pants pockets", "one handed use" etc will evaporate… as did much argued issues like why iPads shouldn't have a front-facing camera before iPad 2 launched or why 720p was good enough before :apple:TV3 launched or why 3.5" was the one and only perfect size screen before the 4" launched and on and on.

It appears your join date was Mar 2014. I've been around here for a decade longer than you. In the window since you've joined, perhaps you just haven't observed what I've shared. I was here for "who wants iPods with video", "why should an iPad have a front facing camera?", "720p is good enough" and many other such passionate posts in countless threads. I suspect that if I just joined a few months ago, I wouldn't have the experience here yet to pass judgement on such statements. Nevertheless, you believe what you want to believe.

I have proven you wrong. Because I can't find one example of what you're saying. Because it doesn't exist. Can you prove yourself right now (as you're supposed to do when you make an assertion)? No. You cannot. You can't make a claim and then ask me to prove you wrong, that's ridiculous.

Flying spaghetti monsters exist. Prove me wrong.

It doesn't work like that, and it's becoming increasingly obvious that you're just regurgitating the same spiel that everyone else does without any shred of evidence whatsoever.

What a substance-less bunch of sentences. You're saying nothing other than "I have no proof to back up what I said".

And I'm not disagreeing with that. The complaint threads do evaporate. And I already explained why. Because people actually want the things that Apple is proposing. People want bigger screens, and faster processors, and bigger specs. Your original (incorrect) post was that Apple fans whine about what competitors do and say it's dumb until Apple does and then does a flip flop. For the sixth time, no they do not. And you have not provided any evidence whatsoever to back up that ridiculous statement.

??? This is the second time you've bought up my length of time here as if that somehow discounts what I've observed? Let me get this straight, the decade or so before I arrived, people here were flip-flopping like crazy and you could point them out easily and laugh about them heartily because it happened so often, but now, a decade later it still happens "blatantly" but you cant provide one solid example? Like I said, be honest with yourself and stop lying. Thanks.

Eta: I see you've added some article you found online undoubtedly by googling apple and flip flop, but nice moving of goalposts. Be honest.

They did. It's called GS4 Active.

Hmm, right - but then you sacrifice processor speed and other things.

The GS5 is waterproof - and there's also the GS5 active.

A point I've always made - why so many variants from Samsung, when they could simply merge the most popular ones into a super phone?

The Nexus 5 isn't even remotely usable one handed.

I'm typing this reply out to you right now one handed on a Nexus 5 and its perfectly fine.

You don't like larger phones-perfectly fine to have that opinion but don't go making statements that aren't true.

Because people like choice. And it works for them, and it worked for Nokia as well.

I don't like it, though, especially if done really bad. Like the Nokia E7, the fold-out keyboard communicator "Super-Symbian" flagship monster business phone... except that they put a friggin' fixed-focus camera on it that couldn't even focus close enough to scan an A4 document or take close-ups of a whiteboard.

The difference between the GS4 and GS4 Active are small enough for me, and I think it's perfectly OK to have some differentiation, as long as you're not intentionally screwing things up.

So you'd rather have a bunch of variations that all have some trade-off versus ONE device that does everything? How is that "choice". It's compromise.

Point being, Apple isn't some unique company in holding back features. And while making sure there's a compelling reason for consumers to buy is a key factor, there are other things to consider as well such as yields, viability of said feature, usefulness, etc.

I said "I don't like it."

Still, yes, I'd rather have a cheaper device that makes trade-offs on features that are not important to me than paying extra for stuff that I don't need. The best case scenario would obviously be the possibility to customize the phone to your exact specs, but I don't think that we'll be there for quite some time still.

Variants still don't have anything to do with the fact that the 2013 GS4 flagship was not waterproof while the 2014 GS5 flagship is.

The waterproof feature could've been put in the 2013 flagship (which cost the same as the GS5) but Samsung waited.

That was the point I was making - got side tracked into this variant talk which I agree is fine - if done correctly.

I really hope that Apple would keep a 4 incher around with the internals of the bigger siblings. We the majority of Apple users should not be subjected to the dictation of the minority users who lust after phones that are as big as their faces.

Thank you. A little different than what you claimed happens but I see where you're going.

But for clarity, originally he said he'll never buy apple again if it happens and then he said they will sell well (and he never said he'd be buying it). so it's a little different than you implied that hes foaming at the mouth saying "bestttt iPhone ever!!"

All in all though it was a good effort and at least you tried unlike the people who post that same drivel all the time and refuse to provide any evidence. If we see that guy in a couple months talking about how great it is then yes, he flip flopped. right now, no he hasnt, by your example.

Flip flopped or, as most people would put it, changed his mind. I've changed my mind about a lot of things including the original iPhone. I was using a windows mobile phone at the time and was unimpressed by the iPhone until I happened to be in an AT&T store so I stopped to give it a try. I left with one.

I was really hoping for more of a widescreen display. They seem to just keep stretching the phone out and for me it just looks silly.

If you want a wide screen, hold it landscape.

We dont even know if that guy changed his mind though. It went like this:

1) "If Apple sells a phablet I'll never buy Apple again"
2) "Apple will sell a ton of these phones if they come out"

There's no flip flop there because he's saying two completely different things. Like I said, there is no evidence to support the assertion that Apple users are saying features are dumb until Apple introduces them and then start saying how great it is. Zero. Zilch. It's just a way for people (who dont want to be referred to as trolls) to make up lies and generalize an entire userbase and get a few upvotes from like-minded liars.

As for changing your mind, yep, that is allowed. A frequent poster here once linked me to an example of just that once of a person who initially said "I don't know if I would like this" and then later said "I had a chance to check it out and it's actually pretty good" as an evidence of a flip-flop.

It's probably better to ignore these people but it's just so easy to expose their lies, I guess I can't help it.

Yes, I understand that, I'm sorry if that was not clear, but there is no reason for anyone to use a disparaging term "flip flop" for the quite common activity of changing ones mind.

A lot of people who believe a phone must be easily used with one hand believe it because it is what Apple has told us all along. They have stated in the past they will not build a phone that can't be easily used with one hand no matter the hand size. Now it looks like Apple is changing their mind. Once Apple changes their mind and builds a bigger phone the whole opinion will change. Just wait and see.:)

You make an interesting point about the ethos behind the one hand thing, I'm sure that's a big (and slightly narrow minded of the people who believe it) reason about why some people are complaining... but for me.. Big Phones mean 'Bricks' ... which makes me think of late 80's early 90's gigantic nokia phones, and smartphones like the p900 series from Sony. They were all 'too big' for me, I didn't like them and ended up getting a smaller, thinner phone as it suited me and my useless hands better.

I'm not against Apple making a bigger phone, I just want them to continue a range of sensibly sized phones for those of us who have abnormally short fingers and tiny hands ^_^ (i'm not joking, my girlfriend has bigger hands than I do, which is disappointing on multiple levels)

Well to my shame I do have a working 3gs in a drawer. I'm interested as to how you make a profit by selling a two year old phone and buying a new one. I'm on a 4s and out of contract, waiting to see iPhone 6 before upgrading. Any advice?

eBay, Gazelle, Craigslist, etc, are just a few ways to recoup $ from an old iPhone.

Example: the iPhone 5 will be two years old in Sept. A refurb unlocked 16GB 5 goes for $380 retail so its very easy to get $280 for it.

In your case, a 4S is a year older, but still iOS8 compatible so yo should be able to get $125. That won't cover all the cost of a new phone, but a good portion depending on which model you get. Obviously the longer you hold onto a phone the less valuable it becomes even if its unlocked.

is someone actually measuring the size of the height ? lol

people are that intense huh.... if its an inch shorter, u'll hear about it..

my god, what have we come to. :O

Only for those with gorilla-sized hands. Single-handed isn't comfortable or accurate enough even on the iPhone 5.

.

You probably just have extremely tiny hands
Before I got my iPhone, I owned a Huawei Ascend P6 (4.7"). It was easily operable with one hand. It's not like it's the size of a watermelon or something like that.

Once you go above the current iPhone size, you basically have a tablet (that can also make calls), not a phone.

I'm hoping the current large screen fad...

How long does a 'fad' have to be around before you start taking it seriously? Larger screens have been around since the iphone's introduction and they're not going anywhere.

I do agree, Apple needs to keep a smaller phone for people who don't use all the functionality of a 'smart' phone.

I don't necessarily agree that wanting a smaller phone means people don't use all of the functionality of a smartphone. I'm not totally against large screens, but I do fine with my iPhone 5's screen. I think there is something to be said for one handed use, and some people like a more compact size. I myself am torn right now between one handed use (I have smaller than average hands) and screen real estate. I played with a Galaxy S5 in a store today and it was better than I expected, but I can't fully use it with one hand so right now my thought is that if they do both a 4.7 and 5.5 I'm going to have to debate what I want more, a phone I can use one handed or a phone that gives me more screen space.
