@benh89 tell them you use it for your digital photography. The Samsung screens just aren't up to being used for processing digital images - the dithering is so off-putting.

If you've got AppleCare ring them and explain the situation.

I don't have AppleCare as I didn't buy it through Apple, I got it through Comet (but I still didn't take out extra cover). I could say that I use it for image processing as my Dad does actually run a digital printing studio, but unfortunately I've already told them that isn't the case. The problem is, Comet are adamant that there is nothing wrong and are refusing to pay for anymore repairs or replace it. When I originally took the machine back it was in warranty, so as far as I'm concerned it still is, especially as this fault occurred as a result of their "repair".

finally fixed

Well Apple Japan final replaced my panel one more time. (Once they replaced it with another defective LCD, the second time they sent it back without replacement saying there was nothing wrong with it. I called them for about the tenth time as my one year warranty was running out and the customer service guy cheerfully said "we will replace the LCD panel" like Apple had finally given him permission to own up to the problem. I said to make sure they didn't replace it with a Samsung defective one again. Anyway it came back and the lines are gone. The corners may be a tad dark but I can live that.

Hard to say without seeing it. Do you have the latest white Macbook with the LED screen? If so, I would say you're okay. I've seen quite a few of those and they all look excellent. I'm not an expert, and I've only been looking into this issue for a few weeks, but it seems only the 9C5B Samsung screens are the ones with problems.

Nice one. Looks like you've got a Chi Mei panel.

Incase it hasn't been mentioned, for those interested in an upgrade, most of these come with the LP133WX2-TLG*

These are similar in quality to the LP133WX2-TLC*. Quality's a bad word to use when describing those models.

The AUO B133EW04 V.0 is perfectly compatible with the LP133WX2-TLG1 & LP133WX1-TLG2 included in 99.999% of these white unibody macbooks.

Great success!

So after six months of waiting for Comet to admit there was a problem and change my screen, I spent £64 on a new LG screen (model #: 9C5F) and fitted it myself. It worked. The difference is staggering! I'm off to Comet tomorrow to brag and talk down to those fools .

Well done that man! :D

my macbook had a LG screen with a Verticle line that went down 75 percent of the screen but not the whole one, would disaapear with white background. so i bought a used macbook lcd on ebay, it was a CHI MEI and had more scratches on the finish but no more lines, but the screen was like 30 something bucks so it was worth not having that ugly verticle line

The new macbook models do not have it, you are safe! :)

I myself took my macbook back 5 times before giving up trying to buy one in summer 2009. All of the models had the 9C5B panel with terrible lines.

By Christmas I really needed a new laptop, and after seeing a 2.13 macbook on clearance for £400, I snapped it up. Turned out it had the 9C5F panel and no lines.

I was over the moon!

I know this is an older thread but I just wanted to say that I had SEVERAL Macbook Pro 17" 2009 models that had this problem. I went in to the local Apple retailer and all their display models had it as well on the 17" versions. I have been trying to live with a Powerbook G4 550mhz for a year waiting for either an anti-glare iMac or a 17" MBP that didn't have this problem. I personally saw this on at least 10 different MBP 17" 2009 model unibodies so I am still scared to try to buy a new one. I find it strange that I don't see more complaints about this in regards to the MBP 17 because of all the affected units I saw.
