Err yes. Look around. And the great majority of graphic artists use Apple hardware.
So most of the people buying tablets are graphics designers? That's what we're talking about whether a tablet needs something most people will never use.

Anyone who uses a real camera?
Let's be real. 99% of the world uses a smartphone (most of them iPhones) for taking photos with a photo syncing service a la 'Camera Upload' in Dropbox. With iDevices you have Photo Stream. Zero work has to be done to transfer those photos.
For the 1 time a year your average user needs to plug in an SD card into an iPad, there is the Camera Kit. Don't make it seem like it's impossible.
lol you guys have to admit it was funny even though ipad will out sell it.... please quote me if you disagree
Lol. Apple is just getting a taste of their own medicine.
Have you seen the Eye-Fi card?
Actually the majority of smartphone users use Android devices, meaning that its likely that statement is wrong. Also, 99% is unlikely to be a factual number. I get what your saying though. However, professionals are going to be using real cameras that need to save to an sd card.
You are not wrong.
But, this is what Apple always does -- they pick the one way that they think is the future, cut everything else out, and expect us to line up and adapt.
And if you choose to live in a 100% Apple ecosystem, then hey, it works great! It makes perfect sense. If I buy all my music and movies from iTunes, then why would I need to store them anywhere? They came in off the cloud in the first place, of course I can just download them to my iPad.
And if I take all my photos with that (awesome?) iPhone camera, then I'm all set!
But for those of us who rip our own music, convert (or make!) our own movies, take photos with a real camera, or deal in an office environment where the files we want to touch are not always solely created by ourselves, we need to jump through hoops.
If I want to shoot video clips with an actual camera -- not an iPhone or iPad -- how do I import the photos and video? I can't. Oh, well, I can, with the CCK. That is apparently Apple's only concession that, yes, sometimes you DO want to be able to plug in an external device.
Part of the beauty of a device like an iPad is you can use it away from networks, away from the internet, away from the cloud. The cloud is a great thing but until it is 100% ubiquitous, world-wide, then there is no disadvantage to offering other options.
Have you seen my reputtal to they 5 other replies on that comment?
The windows product made by samsung is NOT intuitive...no intuitive way to close or quit an application. Windows/Microsoft does not believe in intuitive design...this seems to get ignored. Most Samsung Tablets are wifi ONLY>

I have that Eye-fi card and is so sllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
it takes for ever to upload, it works its almost like a toy.
"I don't need it therefore nobody else does"?
An SD card slot would be incredibly useful in an iPad.
It's obvious why Apple wouldn't allow it, but you don't think it would be a good idea to be able to load some of your apps, or music, or a pile of movies, onto an SD card for a long trip? Or pop the card out of your camera to load up the photos into iPhoto (without the need for the third piece of hardware, the Camera Connection Kit)? Or load up Office documents to read and edit?
Who the **** wants to zoom in the home screen? It's all gimmicks except for the SD card. That's a legitimate feature that the iPad could use, and not for cameras but for upgrading the storage.
