Err yes. Look around. And the great majority of graphic artists use Apple hardware.

So most of the people buying tablets are graphics designers? That's what we're talking about whether a tablet needs something most people will never use.

Let's be real. 99% of the world uses a smartphone (most of them iPhones) for taking photos with a photo syncing service a la 'Camera Upload' in Dropbox. With iDevices you have Photo Stream. Zero work has to be done to transfer those photos.

For the 1 time a year your average user needs to plug in an SD card into an iPad, there is the Camera Kit. Don't make it seem like it's impossible.

Actually the majority of smartphone users use Android devices, meaning that its likely that statement is wrong. Also, 99% is unlikely to be a factual number. I get what your saying though. However, professionals are going to be using real cameras that need to save to an sd card.

lol you guys have to admit it was funny even though ipad will out sell it.... please quote me if you disagree

I didn't find it funny at all personally. While Mac vs. PC was similar, it actually expanded on features that the Mac had over the PC - this just rips on the (better) iPad and then says 'Oh, we're cheaper for a limited time because we can't sell any of our devices.'

Lol. Apple is just getting a taste of their own medicine.

The Mac vs PC ads advertised, for the most part, legitimate reasons to switch. No viruses, better standard software, compatibility with Windows, didn't force you to upgrade to XP from Vista ;). But the human representations of the computers were off.

Windows RT DOA

Windows RT OS makes me shudder!!! Its complete crap and will become another Microsoft failure.

1. It wont run Microsoft Legacy Applications
2. Bloated OS uses half of the space on a 32gb device
3. Battery life sucks
4. Most OEM's will not build Windows RT devices due to lack of demand

Professionals can buy their own peripheral for the iPad, then, if they don't have a PC to put their photos on. If the SD card isn't for the iPad's internal storage, far too few people would need it to justify it being on every iPad.

You are not wrong.

But, this is what Apple always does -- they pick the one way that they think is the future, cut everything else out, and expect us to line up and adapt.

And if you choose to live in a 100% Apple ecosystem, then hey, it works great! It makes perfect sense. If I buy all my music and movies from iTunes, then why would I need to store them anywhere? They came in off the cloud in the first place, of course I can just download them to my iPad.

And if I take all my photos with that (awesome?) iPhone camera, then I'm all set!

But for those of us who rip our own music, convert (or make!) our own movies, take photos with a real camera, or deal in an office environment where the files we want to touch are not always solely created by ourselves, we need to jump through hoops.

If I want to shoot video clips with an actual camera -- not an iPhone or iPad -- how do I import the photos and video? I can't. Oh, well, I can, with the CCK. That is apparently Apple's only concession that, yes, sometimes you DO want to be able to plug in an external device.

Part of the beauty of a device like an iPad is you can use it away from networks, away from the internet, away from the cloud. The cloud is a great thing but until it is 100% ubiquitous, world-wide, then there is no disadvantage to offering other options.

I dont see what is so hard with dragging and dropping thing into iTunes? Heck iTunes even rips cds for you

I do admit needing your movies/music in a certain format is where the pain is. The whole concept around iTunes is misunderstood, yes apple makes loads of money of it but if it did not exists artist would lose even more money.

Have you seen my reputtal to they 5 other replies on that comment?

No I haven't. It was just a general inquiry because it is a card made for real cameras. I like what the Eye-Fi card is setting up for the future.

I'm sorry if my comment came across as offensive, I was just generally curious because if I have an Eye-Fi card I wouldn't need an SD card reader on my tablet. Though I do agree I think the iPad needs one sorely, but sadly it won't happen.

The windows product made by samsung is NOT intuitive...no intuitive way to close or quit an application. Windows/Microsoft does not believe in intuitive design...this seems to get ignored. Most Samsung Tablets are wifi ONLY>

Pull down from the top of the screen to close a metro app.

Lose- Lose Situation!

Steve Balmer might buy it looking at couple of useless stuff shown in the ad which he might never use it :D
Compromising Quality, Experience with junk tablet for some $ is losers game!

why are you bringing up Samsung?

I have that Eye-fi card and is so sllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

it takes for ever to upload, it works its almost like a toy.

I haven't used one before. I find the concept intriguing.

"I don't need it therefore nobody else does"?

An SD card slot would be incredibly useful in an iPad.

It's obvious why Apple wouldn't allow it, but you don't think it would be a good idea to be able to load some of your apps, or music, or a pile of movies, onto an SD card for a long trip? Or pop the card out of your camera to load up the photos into iPhoto (without the need for the third piece of hardware, the Camera Connection Kit)? Or load up Office documents to read and edit?

Yes. It's obvious why: it's rarely used so they can save space. They even made SIM card smaller to save space not to mention how much bigger sd card is.

I have the camera connection kit and only time I use it is when I am on vacation without my laptop. That was about 2 weeks per year. I m glad they left that feature to a dongle instead. Smart.

Sure but apple does not need to design its product to tailor the needs of android users, does Apple?

Know what else isn't cool?

Microsofts ridiculous Xbox one policies. I wouldn't buy any of their products. Although these ads are clever.

It's a shame they are resorting to slagging off the competition but at least they don't go after the users and people who use the products like Scumsung. They kept it features only.

However to suggesting zooming icons is a deal breaker or an SD slot or even price point is ridiculous. Dell are a terrible brand, windows 8 is a flop with no decent applications to speak of, has dreadful resale value and will no doubt fail to work as intended. It can't even talk like the ipad did!

You guys are hilarious. If this was the other way- an Apple ad shooting differentiation zingers at Windows tablets- this thread would be full of gushing greatness: "how creative", "so true", "Apple marketing like it used to be", "genius marketing", etc.

I like Apple as much as any of you (and feel no love for Windows) but give credit where credit is due. They're making some punches in these ads that resonate with average Joes. Getting Siri to do the talking is borderline brilliant: it sounds like Apple iDevices envy Windows iDevices. That's killer marketing creative. Whoever came up with that piece of the overall idea should get a bonus or raise.

I know this brings out the "Defend Apple at all costs" troops but those with more objectivity should look at this for what it is: competitors trying to differentiate on at least some desirable benefits. If this gains some traction, maybe it will motivate Apple to respond by incorporating some of those advantages. Frankly, I have believed iDevices should have an SD card slot from the beginning and would love it if this kind of thing could motivate Apple to make that particular thing happen.

Competition is good. It can make even Apple take actions that at least some of us Apple followers desire. Finding fault with everything the competition has is a recipe for status quo. Personally, I'd love an SD card slot and real multi-tasking. Both would make Apple devices that much more useful. I don't want to go get those things elsewhere but I would like those benefits to come to the devices I want to own.
