This has to be the worst ad ive ever seen. Oh you can zoom the start page wow so cool. And who the hell actually uses an SD card still? Only about a million other ways to store and transfer things

Millions of people use SD cards. Tens of millions.

Stupid

why would I need SD card? 128 GB and soon 256 gb will be normal in tablets. Why would I put some mini sd card in there. Only dust gets into it and in case you spill water you are buggered on several spots.

Zoom??? that is cool. I love that feature. HODOR

I love how they tend to compare devices of the same storage capacity even though Windows takes up about 16 GB vs about 2 GB for iOS.

Pacing two apps side by side admittedly has some use, but a 4 finger swipe left or right is a pretty quick way to multitask, funny they didn't show that.

You guys are hilarious. If this was the other way- an Apple ad shooting differentiation zingers at Windows tablets- this thread would be full of gushing greatness: "how creative", "so true", "Apple marketing like it used to be", "genius marketing", etc.

I like Apple as much as any of you (and feel no love for Windows) but give credit where credit is due. They're making some punches in these ads that resonate with average Joes. Getting Siri to do the talking is borderline brilliant: it sounds like Apple iDevices envy Windows iDevices. That's killer marketing creative. Whoever came up with that piece of the overall idea should get a bonus or raise.

I know this brings out the "Defend Apple at all costs" troops but those with more objectivity should look at this for what it is: competitors trying to differentiate on at least some desirable benefits. If this gains some traction, maybe it will motivate Apple to respond by incorporating some of those advantages. Frankly, I have believed iDevices should have an SD card slot from the beginning and would love it if this kind of thing could motivate Apple to make that particular thing happen.

Competition is good. It can make even Apple take actions that at least some of us Apple followers desire. Finding fault with everything the competition has is a recipe for status quo. Personally, I'd love an SD card slot and real multi-tasking. Both would make Apple devices that much more useful. I don't want to go get those things elsewhere but I would like those benefits to come to the devices I want to own.
I personally don't like it when any company makes obvious references to competitors (yes mac vs pc counts too). They will undoubtedly focus on a couple of minor flaws in one device, and base those minor details on why their product is better. It's really misleading because I'm sure there's plenty ways the iPad is better than this device.

Maybe you don't need one. But as is, one can pay an expensive premium to add a fixed amount of extra iDevice storage that can never be changed or, with an SD card, the amount of added storage one needs could evolve as those needs change. Over time, SD costs fall and fall and fall unlike prices of the same "extra storage" in iDevices which remain consistent from the first day of launch to the day before the device is replaced with a new one. And so on.

As to the dust & spill argument, if you have an iPhone, the same should apple for the sim card slot. They can do an SD card slot just like that one with the exact same level of "protection" from dust or spills.

Just because some see no benefit doesn't mean ALL share that view. I'd love flexible storage upgrade options at ever-decreasing SD card prices for my iDevices. And that's just ONE (albeit GREAT!!!) benefit of a built-in SD card slot.

Let's be real. 99% of the world uses a smartphone (most of them iPhones) for taking photos with a photo syncing service a la 'Camera Upload' in Dropbox. With iDevices you have Photo Stream. Zero work has to be done to transfer those photos.

For the 1 time a year your average user needs to plug in an SD card into an iPad, there is the Camera Kit. Don't make it seem like it's impossible.

And why make is seem like it isn't a good feature? Just because the iPad doesn't have it means it useless?

You should have seen this place when Apple released the "Genius" ads. There was massive disapproval here, including from me.

But if the iPad had it, it would be a great feature?

The windows product made by samsung is NOT intuitive...no intuitive way to close or quit an application. Windows/Microsoft does not believe in intuitive design...this seems to get ignored. Most Samsung Tablets are wifi ONLY>

Drag the app (from the top) down off the screen.

Tell me, how do you intuitively do this with the iPad?

  • Step 1: Press twice on the "Home" button.
  • Step 2: Scroll until you find the app
  • Step 3: Oops, I can't find it, because there is no way to close the currently open app
  • Step 4: Tap the "Home" button once to take me to the Home screen
  • Step 5: Press twice on the "Home" button
  • Step 6: Find the app icon
  • Step 7 (the most intuitive step): Press and hold the app icon until it starts to wiggle around and gives you a (-) icon
  • Step 8: Press the (-) icon.

Oh and FAIL on calling it a Samsung. This tablet is clearly identified in the original post as a Dell XPS 10 Tablet.

Well...

• iPad Mini is $329, iPad full is $499, not $599.

only the 16gb Ipad is $499. They are comparing the full 32GB model to the dell that's also 32GB model. 9.7 inch vs. 10.1.

If they used something else like the mini or a cellular model you'd have a bunch of fanboys whining about how they are using some other model that's not somewhat comparable and being deceptive.

But not the macbook air, which is aimed at the majority of consumer product. Only the pros still have sd cards meant for people who use high quality digital cameras for photo editing on their laptops. Not something you need on a tablet.

Perhaps you should actually look at the ports on macbook air. In fact every consumer Mac has a SD slot.

When you have a lot of apps, flicking through screens is cumbersome. Zooming lets you skip the junk you don't need to see.

Tapping on the dots just above the dock to change the page a few times is a lot easier than staring at tiny icons until you find the one you want.

Nothing about the ad is untrue. It's a good ad, showcasing what the windows tab can do that the iPad can't. if you're upset over it, you need some real friends instead of just Apple gadgets.

Well let's see......Windows tablets have a 7.5% market share and the iPad 81.3%last figures I saw.

Additionally, I've been to 4 meetings this morning including one out of the office and here is the tablet score today:

Ipad 27 Windows tablets 0

Real friends??? We got market share up the wazoo and all kinds of real friends to boot. It would appear you Window folk need some market share badly. Good luck with that and that platform!

Sadly, not the 11" Air, for size reasons I assume. Otherwise, I'd buy one today. As it is, I'm waffling between the 11" and the 13", trying to determine just how much I need a built in SD slot or whether I can live with an external USB one.

Exactly, so why would the tablet, aimed at the average consumer, need a microSD slot? Making those slots obsolete for that particular target consumer market.

Anyone who has a point and shoot digital camera is familiar with an SD card. I'd guess there are a few hundred million of those cameras worldwide. Can't get much more average than that, can you? And most every smartphone in the world has a micro SD slot. Except the iPhone, of course.

So true. Killing the currently running app is a pain. Luckily, they addressed this issue in iOS 7 beta 1 so far, so I'm just hoping that they get their icon design in shape before it's released.

You replied to a comment about features by talking about market share.

But for those of us who rip our own music.

FTR,you can have all your own ripped music in iTunes Match (either matched or simply uploaded) though it does have a $25/year fee (90% of our music isn't sourced from Apple) ... however, I do understand your point :)
