New Yorkers cannot buy online using Next #Fail

No one really knows why right now. I'm also in New York and I asked AT&T and all they told me was that, yes, it's true that we cannot use Next but they have no other explanation or options to offer than than 2-year upgrade or full retail price if available.
The explanation I got over the phone was that it has come to their attention that the level of identity theft through this AT&T next online has been high in New York. Wtf that means is beyond me. I went to the store and they told me that I should be able to do it on their site and they're not sure how Apple site works. So options are preorder through att.com or preorder at an AT&T store at 9am when they open in the morning. Neither will guarantee that you'll have it delivered by Friday the 19th. Because AT&T is known to suck with **** like this. I might skip preorder and take my chances next Friday in waiting on a line somewhere. Horse *****
No, preordering through AT&T has it shipped to your billing address. The only way you can pick up a phone at AT&T store is if you get in line on launch day. This is what I was just told at the store

Thats what I don't understand. What is different from Apple.com and ATT.com. Both ask for billing info, apple even asks for social.
AT&T Chat told me no. In store only. Can't say how reliable that is but it's the answer I got.
I called my local store and they knew nothing about it.
First they practically force you into the Next plan and then they won't let you use it for online ordering. AT&T strikes again!! What BS....

The difference is doing it right with AT&T or through Apple, which collects the data from AT&T.
So New Yorkers get the *privilege* of paying higher sales tax, plus they have to go in person for this privilege as well? Makes me (almost) happy to be in New Jersey.
