I can understand being able to take 1 day off of work, but how do people stand in line for 3-4 days, etc?

Again, DO YOU REALLY NEED AN IPAD 2 IMMEDIATELY?! Just order online and wait. Jesus!

What's a couple weeks in the grand scheme of things? I would rather wait a couple weeks in the luxury of my own home than spend a week, dirty, smelly, cold and angry on the sidewalk for the slim chance to buy one.

People are ridiculous.

+1 I considered hitting up the 5th ave store launch week to try my hand/luck, but better judgment kept me from doing so, and I waited, and patience payed off in the form of a white 64GB verizon model from a 3rd party (online) reseller (store not a scalper). :p

Not sure why they have to be dirty, or smelly, or angry, or even cold.

I'm asian chinese filipino specifically, so while most the asians you have seen in line may have been resellers you can't automatically lump every asian in that category, just like i cant lump every white person i see into a category that they are all rednecks. While i understand the frustration over resellers lining up and calling all their friends to do so at multiple locations, from Apple's standpoint its just business as usual and money in their pocket either way so they really have no reason to take any action.

I feel for u guys who havent been able to get one due to short supply, being made even worse by bulk resellers snatchin up most of the shipments, it sucks and its not fair, but neither is life as the old saying goes. Two things you can do if ur really hell bent at getting one, u can call off work for a couple days and spent those days camped over night immediately after the Apple store/Best Buy/etc. closes and have friends relieve u when needed if possible, u can also buy from craigslist/ebay at overinflated prices. That said I dont think any normal person would want to do either hence the frustration and uproar, so if ur not willing to do either then suck it up and move on wait a month or two for demand to die down and supply to ramp up.

Honestly there's really no need to go on forums and rant/cry about it and demand that Apple do something, like i stated they're a business and are doing whats best presently for their bottom line in this economy even tho it mite not be best for customer relations. Its really simple is going witout an iPad 2 for another month really gonna kill any of u. Granted I did get mine the first day, but if i hadnt i'm sure i'd still be alive able to type this. =)

All I want to say is if apple release ipad 2 in Asian countries such as Japan, and China at the same time as US, everyone will be happy:). Now I am the one also waiting for my ipad 2.

Not necesarily, if they launched the iPad 2 simultaneously worldwide, supply in the US would have suffered even more. By doing this they would have to distribute supply to retail stores around the world, which in turn would cause a drop in supply to retailers in the US and there would be even more public outcry that Apple should have expected this...Most ppl i dont think grasp the process that is involved in manufacturing these devices, yes they are fabricated at a plant by machines but you still have plenty of ppl at these factories QAing each device, if u think QA of the devices sux now imagine how bad it would be if u asked for production to be doubled...The only option Apple could have done to prevent the shortage would have been to delay the launch so they would have much more readily available stock to ship.

semi relevant- anything on Long Island today? can't find anything :(

I got one at best buy in patchogue at 8:30 tonight, 32gb black wifi. They had a few white 16s too. There was a big stack that were set aside for preorders but I guess they had a few to spare. Saw it on their online inventory page that's linked from another thread here. (those links were very helpful!)

Good luck...

I posted these pics on the front page thread but since we started this discussion here, this goes to all those calling us racists and/or we could line up earlier...

Well, in theory you could've lined up earlier. They weren't there when the store was erected, right??

Boohoo, iPad 2s are hard to get. Suck it up and either try harder to find one or order one online and wait. They aren't doing anything illegal. As I said before, would it change your opinion if they were buying the iPads for their own personal use? The end result is the same -- they're buying the iPads. What someone does with their own property is up to them.

I live in NYC but am willing to drive 2-3 hours away if it would increase my chances. Does anyone who has been hunting have any tips for me?

I am only getting back to NYC tomorrow night, so I would looking very early on Sunday. Will any shipments even arrive at a store on a Sunday morning? I work very long hours during the week so I can only afford to spend the time tomorrow. If not I will probably resign myself to waiting the 5 weeks... but after spending the last week traveling throughout California, changing hotels every night and carrying around a very heavy bag of books, binders and papers... I would love to get my hands on it sooner rather than later! :p

Thanks for any tips!

[EDIT: I have seen the threads about checking stock at target, best buy, and walmart... What I am curious about is if people have found certain areas, maybe in upstate NY or LI or CT have had stock.. Should I try to go to Apple Stores or to third party retailers? Thanks!]

This thread should put Apple on notice: don't screw over online orders to maximize lines in some tit-for-tat with the press over Verizon iPhone coverage.

Also, Apple, yo need to reinstitute a reservation system and cut off or limit cash and prepaid credit card sales so actual customers can buy.

Target NYC

I picked up a black 32 gig wifi from the Target in Harlem on Thursday morning. I used the Target stock link in the sticky and harlem just happened to have some (dont know how many) available. Just wanted to pass along. For those in NYC that might be a better look than waiting for the apple stores.

Also, the target in Hicksville LI had some too on wednesday. I had someone go check it out, but the last one sold at around 6pm (he got there at 630pm). I found the stock using the same target link.

This thread should be a warning to all potential iPhone 5 buyers. Be prepared.
After days of battling resellers then I'm definitely going to order online next time because I feel that battling the international gray market channels is a corporate issue, not something that should fall on the shoulders of the average consumer.

This is the new Apple Experience.

but it is not fair...

Newsfash: Life's not fair. I never once said I'm happy with what they're doing, personally I'm not, but they are well within their rights to do it.

This is Apple's mess. No pre-orders, etc. Place the blame where it belongs.

Let's just hope the iPhone 5 launch goes smoother.

They are re-selling right in front of the :apple: store at a hefty premium. That sir is called scalping and is illegal in New York City. So it's not thier right at all to break the law.

Well as I said, when I'm pissed I do crazy stuff but I'm not going to miss St. Patty's Day!! Neither am I going to lose sleep over it... again! I honestly think this is an issue (big, small it depends) and I stated my opinion. That's it.

I feel sorry that people have made this an act of racism. Scalpers are scum and that's all, I don't care where they come from, how they look, smell, speak, walk etc.

Dude, you started a post complaining about a particular race because you can't get an iPad 2. If that's not a definition of a racist, then I don't know what would be.

Chill. I understand you're a bit angry with the shortage situation but posting comments directing a particular group won't make the situation any better. What it does reveal is your racism. This is a capitalist society. Everyone has a a right to make money if an opportunity exist.

Some things are better left unsaid. Just except it. For example, if your favorite sports team is losing, do you express your disappointment by pointing out the fact that the team is consist of players from particular race?

I'll be in the NY in about a week. How long do these lines go on for? Can I expect them to be just as bad as the pictures above?

This whole racism thing is getting old... Next time you watch the news about an X race person who robbed a place, or a Y race gang that smuggled drugs, or a Z race group that crosses the borders, call the channel and tell them they are freakin racists. And don't tell me it's not the same because these are crimes because scalping is a crime too. When did talking about real facts became racism? Do you even know what racism is???

Racism = the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

My problem is with the f*ing scalpers. That these specific people in NYC are asians is simply a fact.

Then you don't know what racism is.

That statement alone shows that this "racism" you detect is probably more about you than about defending a culture.

As an Asian who spent several days iPad hunting then I have no problem calling things out based on facts rather than sugarcoating it so insecure people wiont be offended. And the facts are this. An overwhelmingly large amount of iPads are being purchased by People who are paid by iPad Pimps to buy iPads that will be shipped out of this country. Hiding that they are Asians may make YOU feel better but it does not stop this Real problem from happening.

No, it's not "called scalping" and it's not illegal. At all.

This is Apple's fault and Apple's mess. And it sucks for everyone who just wants an iPad.

scalper - someone who buys something and resells it at a price far above the initial cost; "he got theater tickets through a scalper"
