Something's changing [on www.o2.co.uk]. On all browsers (Safari PC, Firefox PC and Opera PC) for me just now, I'm getting a blank banner for the main O2 website with a tag saying iPhone. They must be in the process of updating it.

God, I hope they don't delay launch!

Yeah, most of the iPhone banners have disappeared!

Mines coming tommorrow!!!!

I used the fail form, heard nothing at all so assumed it had failed. Had a confirmation email yesterday and now a text and tracking no. Delivery tommorrow?

The tracking number is not working.

All may not be lost!

After what seemed like about five hundred attempts (but in realiy can't have been more than two or three hundred), I eventually managed on Monday afternoon to complete the secure 'failover' form and get a page thanking me for my order.

So I sat there like the smug little git that I am, feeling very pleased with myself that I had just managed to scrape in before the phones were sold out, until I read on this thread that quite a few people had got the same message as me, but that their orders hadn't actually gone through. At which point my smile slipped somewhat, and I checked the order status on my O2 page, to find that, sure enough, there were no orders listed there.

So I resigned myself to having to wait until new stock arrives in the UK, because I can't get to an O2 store for 8 am on Friday, and I expect that they will be sold out by lunchtime. But a few minutes ago, an email arrived from O2, thanking me for my order, and giving me a tracking number. And it has appeared on my page on the O2 site, as well. Now, it doesn't tell me that it will be delivered on Friday, but it doesn't say that it's backordered, either, so I'm hoping that it will arrive on Friday. So if you got the "thank you for your order" message, but no email, don't give up hope: it may be that they just haven't cleared the backlog as far as your order yet.

Could you note whether you're new/existing order and what time order placed ? Might give us an idea of where the cut-off was in the morning ?

Chris
(New - 0837hrs - Just one email....no credit check call...)

I don't believe it...just had a call from O2 to say that they have received my online 'form' and should get a new phone on Friday.

Seems as if they are working through forms that were submitted...even though I received no confirmation.

Maybe there is some hope for us after all!

Just logged into my o2 account
the order has been changed from - processing to complete and will be shipped out tomorrow
they have also given me a tracking number by DHL - but cannot be tracked which is not unusual as DHL will only collect tomorrow and should be on the DHL system tomorrow.

Fingers crossed - il keep you guys updated :D

**just checked again and now says despatched 9th July - which is today - yipeee**
before anyone asks it was a new contract and not an upgrade

Same here, just got an email from them and its on my account tracking page. I am an upgrading user and completed the form about 13:10 on monday if thats any help to anyone.

I ordered using that form about 5 times during the day, initially at about 8:30. Doesn't seem like I was successful though.

I can only assume from the people now reporting successes that I was indeed early enough to get one, but simply not lucky enough for the order to get through (I didn't get any kind of confirmation back after I submitted the form, which is why I retried).

Obviously I also tried to order via the "proper" site, but never got as far as paying...

First come, first served, my a**e.

You right mate - i ordered on the main site around 10.30 and got my confirmation

Credit card debited ?

I presume everyone has had their credit/debit cards debited (if they went for a tariff that wasnt free).

I've been debited for the 16gb on £45 tariff + 3g cradle.......not sure if that's O2 policy though - even if they dont have guaranteed stock

Cost....

....I'd also hate to know how much the business world has lost in time with people chasing orders, posting on sites like this etc........quite frightening........no wonder we're in a 'credit crunch' ;)

It's a little early yet, but that's what I've been thinking!

Well I guess until Friday comes and we see just who got phones and who didn't, and what goes on with O2 shops and stock levels, we won't really have a good idea just how badly O2 screwed up.

I'm waiting with baited breath to see what wonders will be revealed on the O2 site tomorrow. It surely can't take 2-3 days just to post up a message saying "our shops will be selling iphones, might not be much stock, get there early". Hmmm, this delay wouldn't simply be to avoid getting even more complaints in the interim would it? Surely not...

I wonder how they'll spin the complete lack of positive news they have for all the people they pissed off...

"We're sorry you weren't one of the several people to win a pre-order in our raffle on Monday, but we're now thrilled to be able to offer you a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity. Register your interest today for the chance to stand outside an O2 shop all night in the rain and cold - we can't guarantee you a phone, but the publicity generated by letting orders of magnitude more people queue than we actually have stock will be great for our share price!"

Chris - same here. I ordered (new customer) on Monday at 0840 - order status still says "in progress"! Credit card has been debited too - will not be impressed if I then don't get an iPhone.

Will just have to wait and see what happens Friday!

well it's comforting to know that each O2 store will have a few dozen phones...

A FEW DOZEN!

200 stores x 36 iPhones = 7200 + 3500 online orders = 10,000 iPhones Max

Wow, they really pushed the boat out this time for the 250,000 people who pre-registered an interest...

Absurd doesn't even come close to describing the situation...

I'm sure Apple are making and shipping just as many phones as they possibly can - any product like this is going to be supply constrained for a while at launch.

The only alternative is to delay launch until you have more units - but why would you actually want to do that?

The annoying part is O2's inability to manage a simple ordering system to allow people to essentially get in line for what stock there actually is... that's the really insane part IMHO. First it was so broken that it was basically a lucky dip, and secondly it shut off after the initial stock was taken (or slightly afterward, resulting in cancelled orders for some). Why not have a working system and keep taking orders to be fulfilled from later stock (and allow cancellations for those that try their luck at a store)?

I don't even understand why you'd organise a bit of chaos for publicity purposes considering that most people already know about the product and plentiful stock will be weeks away at best.

Just got home to check O2 site (no access from work for some reason).....no change......

Ordered 08:37 on Monday - new customer. Credit call at 11am Monday ok but no emails at all or texts to confirm order. Phoned twice and have been told order is ok (although first call seemed to indicate that order had been canceled by mistake possibly ? .

Money out of account today but still no confirmation. Going to be annoyed if I take day off for delivery and nothing turns up !!!

Blimey! I ordered an upgrade 16g £45 iphone on Monday afternoon, maybe 3pm from the fallout/failure page. Now have just recieved 2 emails and progress report on my02 saying 'in progress'. This has been sent at 21:30pm! Wonders will never cease. Although I can just see a very anxious Friday- waiting...waiting...waiting
