Are there any thick walls (eg: concrete or brick) in between the router and your MP? That would interfere with the signal. Would it be possible to move the router to near the Mac Pro? Or run Ethernet instead.
Thanks for your reply.
There's a thick wall between my Mac Pro and the router.
I can possibly move the router closer.

Thanks again for your reply.
That would be a very long ethernet cable.

☺️

I'm new here. I just got a Mac Pro 5,1.
I really like the specs on it.
However I can't update it any further than High Sierra.
Any suggestions? Tips?

Thanks!
If you don't mind my asking... Why would you buy a computer that's 12 years old?

This may be a stretch.
Does anyone here think they would be interested in me sending them an SSD and they put Monterey on it for a Mac Pro 5,1?

I don't mind paying someone to do it for me.
I'm afraid I might brick my Mac Pro.
It's easy for me to skip steps.
There's SSD's on Ebay with the OS installed.
I don't feel I can trust something like that from Ebay.

You're not going to learn anything if you don't do it yourself. Take it slow.

It's very hard to brick a Mac and you can't brick it just by trying to install an OS, patched or otherwise.

Good advice.
I am quite impatient sometimes.
I'll take it slow.
Thanks.

Is It possible to download Mojave and create a bootable thumb drive to install it or do i have to install High Sierra first?

Download Install macOS Mojave.app <--- I HAVE NOW REMOVED THE APP FROM DROPBOX. If anyone reads this and wants it, reply in this thread and I will repost.

Be aware, this is over 6GB.

Place in Applications folder, double click and follow the prompts. There's only a need to use a USB installer if you're installing a patched OS. The MacPro 5,1 will run Mojave natively.

PS. I usually leave the links I post for Dropbox up, but this is a 6GB+ file so I'm going to remove it when you're done downloading it.

I'm actually just waiting for my new video card in the mail.
I just bought it yesterday on eBay.
I need it to install Mojave.
Thanks for posting the link.
It's going to be awhile before the video card arrives.
I have a 16gb flash drive. So I think I'm okay.

This will upgrade the existing High Sierra installation to Mojave. If you want to do a clean install on an empty drive, you also need a bootable USB installer. :) It's always good to have one around for recovery purposes too.

Thank you for your reply.
That makes a lot of sense.
Great advice!

No it does not.
Best method is create a bootable clone on an external drive.
Thank you for your response.
I think I'm going to create a bootable thumb drive with Mojave on it.
The video card will be here tomorrow.

Thanks again guys.
Thanks for the link.
I'm on a different computer (PC)

I'm downloading Mojave right now.
I'm going to put it on a thumb drive. (32gb)
Do I need to install High Sierra first?

Quick question.
Does a Mac Pro 5,1 support internet recovery?
No.

It doesn't matter what's installed right now (or not).
Thanks for your reply.
I used Transmac.
I hope it works when I get back.
I ordered 2 ssd drive bays from OWC.
My video card should be here tomorrow.
I have to wait before I put an ssd in.
I'm excited.

:)

That's not 100% reliable. Hopefully it'll work.

The only 100% reliable way to create a bootable macOS installer is to use the createinstallmedia command on macOS. So if you still have the High Sierra install, I'd use that to create the bootable Mojave installer.
Thanks for your reply.

If I get Monterey working on my 5,1 will I have issues with the wifi?

Will I have to upgrade my wifi and Bluetooth adapters?
