I just bought the 1st gen last night for 599 from newegg and it'll be here tomorrow.

They now have the 2nd gen for 449.00.

I wonder if I should return it and get the second gen?

Just don't sign for it and you shouldn't have a problem getting a refund.

I haven't been able to figure out the difference between the MLC and SLC and why people love this Intel SSD over the others that come in 128gb and 256gb format opposed to 80/160 formats.

It performs better in real life use scenarios and it's trouble free. Plus, it's intel. They make just 2 SSD's rather than 25 different models and they just work. Kinda like Macs.

Nice! Just got my 13" MBP base model, and just ordered the 160gb SSD! Thanks for the post! Now just gotta upgrade my ram up to 4gb, sorry to switch topics but I was thinking of OWC, are they good or do you guys have any other recommendations? Thanks!

I ordered the second gen 160Gb. Should be here on saturday. I'll hold off on the 1st gen and install that in my 13" uMBP and put the 2nd gen in my 17" uMBP.

Now i just gotta buy one more in a couple weeks

Think of the cores as single homes or duplexes (per bit). Single level cores are faster, more reliable, and will last 10x longer. Hence, the sky high price. Look at the benchmarks.

waiting for newegg.ca to stock them
Im surprised thirdparty drives work in apple notebooks nicely
usually apple doesnt provide updates to thirdparty drives if anything goes wrong.is this true?

PS i was thinking of getting the 80 gb but right now I used 30gb of my 160 gb hdd already not counting iphoto and itunes which is like 25gb
So might save up and get the 160gb

Do you think Amazon will be cheaper? I see they have a page for each up, but no prices yet. Bing.com Cashback knocks $10 if I order from Newegg. Hm....

amazon usually charges a bit more for their stuff, but it always comes out cheaper for me since i don't have to pay ca tax. plus, i get free 2nd day shipping with prime.

Should I get 2x80gb and raid0? or just get 1x160gb?
How much of speed bonus will i get by putting these 2 SSDs in Raid0 compared to one large SSD?
(ofc, assuming I take out the optical bay )
