Really looking forward to see the performance increase that can be had from these drives. Looking to put one into my MBP.

I'll wait as well. I need space before I need speed. Speed is a luxury for me. So when the 320GB X-25 comes out, I'll bite.

Quick question on this: why don't people simply buy a 80 GB SSD, put that in in place of the optical drive (using e.g. optibay), keeping a 500 GB HDD in its usual place? This way one can safe lots of bucks, and for storing files like movies, photos, music the SSD will be hardly useful since they don't have to be accessed quickly. Make the 80 GB the bootup disk and put the Applications folder on there.

Or are folks too dependent on the optical drive to do this?

I thought of this, but, I have had way too many instances in which I need an optical bay (not for my own needs, friends who like doing things on my Mac and carry disks). Also, other instances where I need to burn music for someone (this is happening more than usual lately).

In any case, I'll wait that one extra year to see the 320GB version of this SSD. Right now, I have the stock 250GB HDD from the CE 2.4GHz MacBook, and currently only have 30GB free (I gave Win 7 32GB), so going down to 160GB is not an option for me.

I would imagine that removing the cd drive and putting in an aftermarket dock conversion for a hard drive would void your waranty, which makes getting 3 year applecare a huge waste. Also considering how apple has made their new notebooks as expensive as possible to repair (i.e. to replace the screen you have to replace the entire top half of the notebook since they are glued together) it would be silly to void your warantty.

Do you think Amazon will be cheaper? I see they have a page for each up, but no prices yet. Bing.com Cashback knocks $10 if I order from Newegg. Hm....

Where exactly do you see them on Amazon? I only see the first generation models....

Just save the optical drive and if anything goes wrong swap them back.

I'm not sure what the "R5" represents in the last page. Other merchants are advertising the 160GB version "C1" as shown in page #2.

On a different note:
It might be a while until we see a Intel 320GB SSD: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10291582-64.html
