CNN/MSNBC/ET AL pretty much split their ratings among independents/liberals/democrats while the only news source for extreme right wing is Fox, so comparing ratings between Fox and others is Apples and oranges

Unless we meet and discuss a topic in real life, the internet has proven (generally speaking) that emotion and animosity rather than mutual respect tend to subjugate interactivity and discussions. Your family is conservative and you have an obvious personal agenda through perceived insults by the "main stream media", thus are hypothesizing that all non-conservative news is insulting and erroneous. This does not make for fact.
There are two sides to every story. While I certainly do not agree with Islamist extremists, I also do not agree with Catholic/Christian/Judaeo extremists as all are fundamentally contradictory in their belief system (examples in the U.S. are anti-gay laws while other nations, Spain, parts of Mexico, France, Germany, Canada, the U.K. all recognize and protect the LGBT community and allow them the same civil rights and marriage rights as others, yet many in the states use organized religion to demonize and emotionally taunt and physically harm/kill homosexuals, not to mention racism and sexism, not too far from the extremists in the Middle East who batter women and children). I also do not believe the U.S. invaded Iraq for WMD's OR for the later P.R. monicker "Operation Iraqi Freedom". It was oil, plain and simple. I can account for a few of my friends who served whom stated most of their posts/missions were to help guard oil pipelines while Exxon/Mobil/BP/Haliburton execs/techs drilled and maintained new oil pipelines. Saudi Arabia had more in common with bin Laden (and Pakistan as well), yet the Prince of Saudi and any Saudi's in the U.S. at the time of 9/11 were allowed to freely leave the U.S. (while then Pres. Bush dined with the Prince of Saudi). Soon any allies the U.S. had after 9/11 realized the true foreign policy was not national security, but the security of national resources. The U.S. went from having world wide sympathy after 9/11 to being deemed just as radical as the extremists the U.S. claimed to fight due to horrendous foreign policy. GWB and the then Republican controlled congress tore up civil rights with "The Patriot Act", and used fear tactics to back the 2004 election (while I detest Rove he is a genius with political "warfare").
Read ex Nixon legal aid John Deans "Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches", some interesting facts on the U.S. judicial/political system since the Nixon years, detailing Rove, Rumsfield, Cheney and the Bush family's contributions to American legislation. You may be surprised (or not, depending on your subjectivity). I've read many books from both sides (including Ann Coulter books), educating yourself on BOTH issues is crucial. Interesting that progressives are statistically deemed more open to experiences/politics than conservatives.

Look, you seriously show you don't have much life experience, hopefully that will work itself out with time. Did you look at your study results? A whopping 4% difference between Colbert and Limbaugh audiences? All that time and tens of thousands of dollars buys you virtually nothing if your educational stereotyping...eh, i mean analysis is correct. The scale is tipped because Colbert watchers are better at identifying Sunnis? The same people who don't know the difference between a Lutheran and an Baptist? Now that's some sad commentary.
