Lol brain dead

Nothing makes me smile bigger than rich, sheltered individuals that are convinced that Fox is the only outlet to distort the news.

Ever heard of Dan Rather?

oooor maybe because it's the only "news" source that caters to one particular demographic. CNN/MSNBC/ET AL pretty much split their ratings among independents/liberals/democrats while the only news source for extreme right wing is Fox, so comparing ratings between Fox and others is Apples and oranges :p

If you're interested, here's an interesting read on how this plays out into politics. It's from a dating site, but that puts them in a unique position to analyse the population..

What the hell does CNN/MSNBC have in terms of conservatives or libertarians for that matter?

Pat Buchanon to name one regular (and he NEVER gets laughed at, in fact he and Rachel Maddow have a very good relationship), not to mention Noonan and Murphy, Joe Scarborough has his own show.

What does Fox have? Nothing, and the Democratic guests are usually yelled at, insulted, and ridiculed.

Interesting note, if you compare the right wing extremists educational backgrounds to those on the left, you'll be surprised to discover very little have even finished college, while most of the left have MA's and PhD's. Examples:

Rush Limbaugh (conservative pundit, Radio host):
Two semesters in college before, according to his own mother, he left as "he flunked everything."

Rachel Maddow (Liberal pundit, MSNBC/NBC):
Stanford graduate 1994, awarded the John Gardner Fellowship, also the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship. She began her postgraduate study in 1995 at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 2001, she earned a Doctorate in Philosophy in politics from Oxford University. Her thesis is titled HIV/AIDS and Health Care Reform in British and American Prisons. She was the first openly gay American to win a Rhodes scholarship.

Glenn Beck (Conservative pundit, Fox News):
Never finished college, was honored by Liberty University during their 2010 Commencement exercises with an honorary Doctoral Degree.

Keith Olbermann (MSNBC liberal pundit):
Olbermann graduated from Cornell in 1979 with a B.S. in communications arts.

Anderson Cooper (CNN anchor):
Yale University in both Political Science and International Relations and graduated in 1989.

Tucker Carlson (conservative Fox News):
Majored in History at the private liberal arts Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Carlson says of his time there: "After four years I had met a lot of interesting people, gone to a couple of classes and restored a motorcycle and that was it. And so I wasted my time at college."

Alan Colmes (self proclaimed "liberal" Fox News pundit):
Self proclaimed "liberal" has been noted as stating he is actually "a moderate". Graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts degree from its School of Communications.

Greta van Susteren (conservative, Fox News):
Attended the University of Wisconsin, whose alumni also include Dick Cheney’s wife, Boz Scaggs, followed with a JD from Georgetown Law, alma mater of Jack Abramoff, Bob Barr, and various undersecretaries in the George W. Bush Administration.

Sean Hannity (conservative, Fox News):
Never earned a college degree, Jerry Falwell eventually awarded him an honorary degree from Liberty University in 2005.

George Stephanopoulos (Democrat, politician and pundit):
Received his bachelor of arts degree in political science from Columbia University, followed by a master of studies in theology at Balliol College during his Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University.

Dan Rather (News Anchor, political pundit):
Received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Sam Houston State University where he was editor of the school newspaper. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Rather attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, which later awarded him an honorary Juris Doctor in 1990.

Bill Maher (liberal commentator):
Received a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Cornell University in 1978.

Matt Drudge (conservative):
Didn't graduate from college.

Chuck Todd (Democrate pundit, Professor):
Attended George Washington University, Professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Pat Brown (HLN, CNN):
Graduated with a liberal arts degree from the University of the State of New York, then earned her master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University.

Chris Matthews (Democratic pundit, MSNBC, NBC):
Graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and MA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Shepard Smith (Conservative, Fox News):
Smith attended the University of Mississippi. He majored in journalism, but left two credits away from graduation.

Sarah Palin (Conservative, Fox News):
Speaks for itself

Need I go on?

Hahahahahahahahahaha :D

Rupert, together with his entire lie, propaganda and lobotomy producing media machine can go to (insert appropriate place here)... I can also add iPad to that list too.

LOL

I love such a news since they make me giggle rather intensely!

eeeeeeee :D

Again Sir, those numbers are misleading. FN's is the only extremist right wing cable news channel, all the other channels ARE fair and balanced and cater to a wider demographic. Those in the industry know that fairly speaking, tallying up CNN/MSNBC/CNBC/HLN numbers to FN's is the only justifiable method of comparison. It's tantamount to stating company A sells 1 product while companies B, C, D, E and F sell other products for the rest of the masses to choose from, therefore since company A has more sales that equates to it's popularity. Wrong analysis.

Further, your commentary on BBC and Sky News IS BS, complete fodder. How do I know? I have family serving in the British Royal Army, and most wouldn't waste their spit let alone time on Sky News.

Those numbers are from Nielsen Ratings. Like the loons in the UK that insist crop circles are made by space aliens even when confronted with the people who actually fashion them you are in denial when confronted with the facts.

My family have been sailors in the United States Navy for generations. I am retired USN, and I presently have two nephews, one is a submariner somewhere in the depths of the Pacific on a Los Angles II class attack submarine, the other is on a Marine assault ship somewhere in seas of South East Asia. I will never forgive the insults heaped upon them by our main stream media, calling our military personal, baby killers, war criminals, equal to the NAZI SS, and so on while ignoring the monstrosities perpetrated by our enemies.

Heh..funny. But steve jobs and bill gates were college drop outs too. Steve attended just one semester at Reed college.

:confused::confused: You just stated Nielsen Ratings to make your point that FN's is watched and thus more popular than other cable news networks, now you're stating ratings mean nothing. To finish, you bring in conspiracy theorists???

My family have been sailors in the United States Navy for generations. I am retired USN, and I presently have two nephews, one is a submariner somewhere in the depths of the Pacific on a Los Angles II class attack submarine, the other is on a Marine assault ship somewhere in seas of South East Asia. I will never forgive the insults heaped upon them by our main stream media, calling our military personal, baby killers, war criminals, equal to the NAZI SS, and so on while ignoring the monstrosities perpetrated by our enemies.

Your family is conservative and you have an obvious personal agenda through perceived insults by the "main stream media", thus are hypothesizing that all non-conservative news is insulting and erroneous. This does not make for fact.

There are two sides to every story. While I certainly do not agree with Islamist extremists, I also do not agree with Catholic/Christian/Judaeo extremists as all are fundamentally contradictory in their belief system (examples in the U.S. are anti-gay laws while other nations, Spain, parts of Mexico, France, Germany, Canada, the U.K. all recognize and protect the LGBT community and allow them the same civil rights and marriage rights as others, yet many in the states use organized religion to demonize and emotionally taunt and physically harm/kill homosexuals, not to mention racism and sexism, not too far from the extremists in the Middle East who batter women and children). I also do not believe the U.S. invaded Iraq for WMD's OR for the later P.R. monicker "Operation Iraqi Freedom". It was oil, plain and simple. I can account for a few of my friends who served whom stated most of their posts/missions were to help guard oil pipelines while Exxon/Mobil/BP/Haliburton execs/techs drilled and maintained new oil pipelines. Saudi Arabia had more in common with bin Laden (and Pakistan as well), yet the Prince of Saudi and any Saudi's in the U.S. at the time of 9/11 were allowed to freely leave the U.S. (while then Pres. Bush dined with the Prince of Saudi). Soon any allies the U.S. had after 9/11 realized the true foreign policy was not national security, but the security of national resources. The U.S. went from having world wide sympathy after 9/11 to being deemed just as radical as the extremists the U.S. claimed to fight due to horrendous foreign policy. GWB and the then Republican controlled congress tore up civil rights with "The Patriot Act", and used fear tactics to back the 2004 election (while I detest Rove he is a genius with political "warfare").

Read ex Nixon legal aid John Deans "Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches", some interesting facts on the U.S. judicial/political system since the Nixon years, detailing Rove, Rumsfield, Cheney and the Bush family's contributions to American legislation. You may be surprised (or not, depending on your subjectivity). I've read many books from both sides (including Ann Coulter books), educating yourself on BOTH issues is crucial. Interesting that progressives are statistically deemed more open to experiences/politics than conservatives.

New Study: Liberals More Open Than Conservatives Online
One of the most striking findings is structural: liberal blogs provide audience participation options at triple the rate of conservative sites. That means visitors to progressive sites are more empowered to contribute entire posts to the "front page," and more likely to have their contributions or comments highlighted before potentially hundreds of thousands of readers (see chart).

"The Left adopts more fluid and permeable boundaries between primary and secondary content," the study concludes.

Study Finds Left-Wing Brain, Right-Wing Brain
Exploring the neurobiology of politics, SCIENTISTS have found that liberals tolerate ambiguity and conflict better than conservatives because of how their brains work.

In the end, you are being subjective, not objective, with regards to politics and news.

That has to be the most petty things I've read in quite some time. I know you may have trouble understanding this, but College education does NOT make someone better than a person w/o it. To suggest otherwise, is such an elitist attitude, it makes me ill.

That is your OPINION. I stated facts. I never stated that education makes a person BETTER, I stated that education and knowledge in politics are crucial for those who are informing/educating the general public of political news. Would you rather be taught by a college drop out or a PhD graduate? I would rather have my political news and information from those who are well educated and informed in the political field.

Steve Jobs is irrelevant as he is not a political pundit, he is a business man. Again, Apples and oranges, irrelevant and erroneous conclusion.

Be OBJECTIVE. You do not know me at all. Subjugating me and the discussion with false assumptions that I have elitist and petty views is subjective. I merely referenced facts, with the exception of some of my personal beliefs I stated to another individual based on facts, most of my posts are based on objectivity. I grew up with a conservative/moderate family, and I am a moderate (fiscally conservative but socially liberal), however I do not believe in broad generalizations and black and white politics, the world is very grey.

EDIT: Listen (or rather read :) ), this will become a never ending thread, with subjective reasoning tantamount to the Mac versus Windows discussions. Unless we meet and discuss a topic in real life, the internet has proven (generally speaking) that emotion and animosity rather than mutual respect tend to subjugate interactivity and discussions. We all have our views, it's best to agree to disagree and move forward. :)

New Study: Liberals More Open Than Conservatives Online

Study Finds Left-Wing Brain, Right-Wing Brain

In the end, you are being subjective, not objective, with regards to politics and news.

You scout the web and search for articles that support your belief and ideology without even evaluating or questioning the content. Then you spout your mouth off, declare them as facts, and belittle others opinion as 'subjective'.

Regarding your Left/Right-Wing Brain. You may not realize that an intelligent person show much less activity in their brain than an average Joe during conflict or problem solving process. The 'wiring' or makeup of an intelligent person's brain is more efficient. Based on the article you posted, I suppose I should conclude that conservative are intelligent and liberal are idiot?

These studies have to be the worst in term of facts and political bias.
I've talked to many liberal extremist and found them to be the most gullible beings. I would call "open minded liberal" as tender minded individuals. They live in a false pretense utopia lala-land world. They would believe and swallow any promises made by politicians. "Open minded liberal" is another word for sheep in a socialist or communist society.

You want to read a good book, go read "Liberal Fascism". Then you may come to realize the consequences of liberal government in the past.

I guess we will have to disagree. I judge people by the quality of their product; I'm sorry but that is how I roll. If the person never went to college, such as Steve Jobs, Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, I don't care - I look at the quality of their work. They are all masters at what they do. Just because none of them finished college does NOT make their work any less valid.

Hit the nail on the head. Some think worth is from a college education, while others think that worth is derived from ones actions. If you look at the degrees someone has on the wall to determine the validity of their political opinion, then that is just sad.

Well the current ruling class all have Ivy League degrees, so that's the standard of intelligence now. No Ivy League = retard.

Is this what Fox News is about, twisting facts and putting words in other peoples mouths?

I guess they are all worthless in your eyes, ooh and you probably didn't atten Collage either, with such a litany of dirty laundry up above, never the less "FOX RULES" on Cable if they didn't, you wouldn't be mentioning them along with Rush and the rest every time you get a forum..So, its Collage or your not fit to be an American I guess !!!!!! what liberal institution did your objective studies ?? check and see who owns and funds thjinkprogress.org ILMAO

Again:

Again Sir, those numbers are misleading. FN's is the only extremist right wing cable news channel, all the other channels ARE fair and balanced and cater to a wider demographic. Those in the industry know that fairly speaking, tallying up CNN/MSNBC/CNBC/HLN numbers to FN's is the only justifiable method of comparison. It's tantamount to stating company A sells 1 product while companies B, C, D, E and F sell other products for the rest of the masses to choose from, therefore since company A has more sales that equates to it's popularity. Wrong analysis.

Agreed/I tend not to judge people (or at least try not to, nobody's perfect)

Well the current ruling class all have Ivy League degrees, so that's the standard of intelligence now. No Ivy League = retard.

George W. Bush went to Yale. Condoleezza Rice studied at the University of Denver and obtained her MA at the University of Notre Dame and a PhD at the University of Denver. She was hired by Stanford University as an assistant professor of political science and later was promoted to associate professor until 1993. She also was a specialist on the Soviet Union and gave lectures on the subject for the Berkeley-Stanford joint program led by UC Berkeley Professor George Breslauer.

Interesting side note: Rice was a Democrat and later changed to the Republican party due to her aversion to former Pres. Carter's foreign policy.

Rumsfeld graduated from Princeton University and later attended Georgetown Law but did not graduate.

Thus, your comment that the current "ruling class" is Ivy League educated and thus any one else must be "retard"'s is false as the last Republican Presidency had many Ivy League educated members.

Again, emotionally driven subjective false reasoning.

You scout the web and search for articles that support your belief and ideology without even evaluating or questioning the content. Then you spout your mouth off, declare them as facts, and belittle others opinion as 'subjective'.

Those studies have a large N, yes some are survey based, however if you read them the conclusion is neither for or against either liberals or conservatives, it merely draws a conclusion from an objective hypothesis. Other studies, as most experiments, need to be replicated by others with the same results in order to be scientifically valid. I referenced two studies (one of which has been discussed quite thoroughly), while there are many more I did not reference for the sake of brevity.

Sources please (a scientifically relevant study that may be reproduced by others with the same results), as well intelligent people using less of their brain than unintelligent individuals is POP psychology. The "idea" that any one uses 10% or only part of their brain is scientifically erroneous, and is spouted as "science" in popular culture. Any part of the brain that is not used is essentially dead matter. We actually use 100% or our brain, mostly through unconscious ANS (Automatic Nervous System) processes, with conscious activity dependent upon the individuals' present task. Your statement is scientifically inaccurate.

Again, the use of "I" is subjective reasoning and hearsay. Objectivity removes yourself from any and all observations and intended objectives, achieved through objective studies and research of others without the intention of misleading facts. If you read through my comments, I listed conservative pundits who had achieved great academic success, however many of the "popular" pundits on the extreme conservative spectrum have very little formal education if any at all. Fact. You are drawing conclusions based on emotion.

You want to read a good book, go read "Liberal Fascism". Then you may come to realize the consequences of liberal government in the past.

I can read many books on conservative fascism as well, does that mean that all conservatives are fascists? No. It merely means there have been some conservative governments that were fascist, some with generally good results some without. My statement(s) is/are that generalizations and accusations result in stagnation and division. Do you see what is happening now? I don't know you personally, and I have not ridiculed or called any one on this forum (or generally speaking) any thing demeaning, yet you have pigeonholed me into a category that exists in your mind to simplify your personal logic and reasoning, resorting to such (demeaning) terms as "gullible beings" (not even human, thank you), "tender minded", and "sheep in a socialist or communist society". Again, you don't know me, and you don't know my actual political beliefs (as I stated, I am a moderate who is fiscally conservative but socially liberal). Who is judging whom now?

Further, the terms you have utilized to describe liberals ("sheep", "gullible beings", et al) have been utilized by many in describing conservatives. Subjectivity, not objectivity.

As for your misnomers on socialism, please visit the UK, or EU, they have socialized democracies (healthcare, civil servants such as police and firemen), yet they are not communist regimes. There is a difference between socialism and socialized democracy, a very fundamental difference. Equating socialized democracy to extremist governments such as communism is fear mongering and false. Please visit North Korea, then return and state that the U.K., Spain, France, Canada and other countries who have socialized democracies as "communist regimes", I believe you may be hard pressed to convince others.

As well, the U.S. has socialism, our police force, fire men and women, public educators, they are all socialized. Why is healthcare not, and why is it predominantly demonized by the radical right and erroneously linked to "Marxism"? Why aren't those who are against socialized healthcare against socialized education, and our socialized police-force and firemen? Perhaps those are questions that need further [objective] examination.

As an aside, my education was questioned. I studied Psycho-biology with double minors in French (which I have regrettably since lost) and computer science at Hamilton College in NY, then Industrial Organizational Psychology at Columbia University in NYC (I did not finish my masters/PhD). Does that make me an ignorant or horrible person? No. However, I am not being paid to inform and educate others on topics of which I am not formally educated.

Again, this will continue with back and forth comments, let's take this to PM or the political forum please or agree to disagree. I need to hit the gym, run errands, join the outside world :).

NewsCorp? Personally, no chance it will find it's way to my iPad. If I want fiction I'll go Barnes and Noble. But your iPad is not my iPad. Feel free to fill it up with whatever crap you want.

Ah but *now* we've got the *right* Ivy-leaguers in the government! Obama is a brilliance upon brilliance. IN fact nobody better even look straight at him or lest they be blinded.

:

A study by the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last:

Just one of many studies with that objective conclusion.

Look, you seriously show you don't have much life experience, hopefully that will work itself out with time. Did you look at your study results? A whopping 4% difference between Colbert and Limbaugh audiences? All that time and tens of thousands of dollars buys you virtually nothing if your educational stereotyping...eh, i mean analysis is correct. The scale is tipped because Colbert watchers are better at identifying Sunnis? The same people who don't know the difference between a Lutheran and an Baptist? Now that's some sad commentary.

You don't know me and can not make generalizations on my "life experiences", but thanks for the personal insult. It wasn't MY study, just one of many I quickly found that was easy to reference and easy to understand for those who read quickly through posts (and yes, it's not a scientific study, merely antidotal). Interesting that in all the facts I posted you chose to use that one to reference. Hmmmm. :)

As well, nice cherry picking. :)

Seriously, done with this thread. Have fun debating, I know it's been ... interesting... :)

Is this real grammar?

Yes, college does not define a person. This is especially true these days, where college graduates are unable to acquire the jobs they want, because hirers are looking for experience.

The years I spent in usc taught me less than what I've come to learn from real life experiences. I think in the end, it boils down to your will to achieve. It's the passion, and you acting on that passion that'll prosper you through the ages.

The only reason to go to college is for the experience, methinks (aka partying women)

F "News" Corporation

Only fools play into the left vs right crap

They are fascists. Bad for everyone.

Probably the most important message here is don't be sucked in. Don't choose a 'side' and don't become a devoted, brainwashed 'fan' of any single news outlet.

Use as many news sources as possible and keep smiling...
