I think the credibility of this news is extremely high. The original poster on the linked exhibits reactions to ridicule and skepticism in a way that I feel demonstrate this. One of the things he said was "Wait till the real event unfold. If what I said turn out to be true, would you kneel in front of me and let me whip you?". He has nothing to gain but credibility to be put on the line by posting this. In that forum, fellow posters could "deduct points" from others if they make unacceptable posts, and many has already deducted his points.

The same guys had in previous years (Last November according to him) leaked two news on previous iPhones and he was similarly ridiculed. It turned out that those news were true. The first he he posted in previous year was regarding technical problems in making white iPhones which would result in delays and he advised others not to wait for it if they want an iPhone quickly. The second news he leaked pertained to a hardware problem on the black iPhone 4, but I'm not clear about the details of that leak.

His message to those attacking him:
"To those who blindly deducted my points, who spoke unkindly, please ask yourself what you have contributed. Have you brought any news of values to this forum other than attacking others? Other than demonstrating your poor characters and intelligence, what else have you shown? The points that you have deducted meant nothing to me, and you need to add any points to me either because I don't actually care about points. I just like to share news of values with other. So please go brush your teeth and wash your mouth before you speak."

According to another post of his, he's not a Foxconn employee but has a close friend who is. That's where he got his news.

In this post, he made reference to the news he leaked in previous month regarding iPad 3G being going to be soon offered in China (which was later confirmed to be true) and asked the forum members to examine his track records of leaked news accuracy first before jumping right into deducting his points. His leaked news on iPad 3G is here:
http://bbs.weiphone.com/read-htm-tid-2686820.html, and that was posted on 12 August. I think the rest of the world learned about it in early September.

I'm so sick of people saying it's not a DELAY because Apple never released any info about it. They released the first 4 iphones all in end of june/july. This year that changed and is oct. Thats a delay. They never said they were going to release the 3g, 3gs or 4 ahead of time either. No one knew months in advance. You found out 2-3 weeks prior.

Will be following this with interest to see if he's telling the truth or making up stuffs.

Nice job doing the work the rest of us were too lazy to do. Soon enough we'll find out if he is right again.

Any more information on this?

Eaglesteve (#26) sums it up rather nicely: the guy in the link says that he has proven accuracy, regarding last years launch of the iPhone 4 and the hardware problems, as well as the delay of the white iPhone 4.

He also leaked news regarding the China launch of the iPad 3G, confirmed to be true afterwards.

The funny part is that his post was just the very top paragraph when I posted and then he went back over the next couple of hours and added/found more information.

I am pretty certain he did it to make me look like a jerk. WHY MUST YOU HATE ME?!?!?

Anyways, good work on all that! It really does seem to be of interest then if this guy has posted a couple of right things previously. Also, his attitude seems to be much better then any troll I've ever seen as he's not screaming for attention or saying how wrong everyone is.

Did you read my post? Apple have simply changed the product release cycle, does not meant its delayed.

it's only a delay to tech heads, like people on this forum who assumed there would be one in the summer. Not an actual proper delay.

Tech heads? Please, there are national news programs claiming people are really getting anxious about the "much-delayed" iPhone 5. Also, the iPhone is a consumer device and the consumers are getting restless.

plus this is the first product announcement post-Jobs, so they are taking it slow.

This is where the whole thing is flawed

Steve Jobs is still an Apple employee, he is chairman of the board, Tim Cook's boss, so it is not a post Jobs announcement as Jobs is still there.

I still fully predict that Steve will deliver the keynote for iPhone 5 at least partly

It's Also Equally Possible

As the OP say's that it's duff information. We all must have read 100's of articles by now. If someone told me that the five was going to be powered by applesauce I might even believe it.:D

Yep, it's late....And that's all we really know

The poster at the Chinese website just updated his post and said that iPhone 5's screen size is indeed 4 inch.

Let's hope it's true.

These poor souls are arguing semantics, and if it makes their pitiful lives more meaningful for thinking they're so smart, let them have their moment of glory. It's all they've got.

Trust me, no one cares about this distinction bit you. Give it up.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

This is probably the most annoying/worst wait for an apple product in history.

I keep finding myself waiting in anticipation for a new refreshed apple product, first it was the iMacs in may now it's the iPhone.

This would undermine Cook's position as CEO immensely if Jobs were to show up in anything other than a cameo.

Absolutely spot on, zipster!

Y'all seem to forget that Apple set the expectation of predictable annual announcements for all their product areas. You can't blame consumers who become accustomed to that cycle. All Apple had to do months ago was issue a press release saying that iPhones would not be on an annual cycle or that cycle was being rescheduled. It's delayed..no question about it.

Agreed (registered just to agree with you... sad!)

But I'd put £10 on Steve being the person they call when showing off facetime in iOS5.

At least this means there is in fact a redesigned 5. Just when will we get it is the question.

Agreed! And this explains why the analysts haven't been seeing the iPhone 5 in the supply chain (there are numerous).

Wow, what a relief. I'd rather know that there's a redesigned iPhone 5 that is having delays, than just an iPhone 4S.

This should be front page news.

Don't know when he edited the post, but it also says that the 5 will be thinner and have a 4" IPS screen.

Seriously. Stop. It's still considered a delay if things are running behind even BEFORE an official announcement.

Look up "delay". If Apple expected to release it tomorrow but because of whatever issues came up, are releasing it October 15th... THAT'S A DELAY.

No. Its only a delay if they announce a date and then cannot meet that date. This happens with video games all the time and people claiming delays. If they announce a date and then say 'Oh, well now the release date is +3 months' - thats a delay. Never setting a date for anything, except iOS5, which was 'fall', which doesn't start til today, therefore there cannot be a delay.

Do you think we magically learned about the delay back in March? Nope, Apple leaked it so that the market would be prepared. They just chose to leak it instead of doing a formal PR....which would be more damaging.

No doubt in my mind that it was delayed from Apple's original schedule, but the initial delay could have been a strategic one. (not just this display issue)

No. Its only a delay if they announce a date and then cannot meet that date.

If Apple had an internal date planned and they pushed it back before announcing a date publicly, that's still a delay. If Apple NEVER had a plan to launch in the summer of 2011, THEN I would say there was no delay.

Edit: I guarantee you the bean-counters see it this way...even if you don't.

j/k

I've said this before, how can a product be delayed if it was never given a release date?

The only thing Apple has said is "Fall" (Sept 23rd - Dec 21st), it'll only be delayed if its released after Dec 21st.
Does it give you some feeling of superiority to keep driving this ridiculous point home? No one cares what it's technically called but you.
