I sure am. I need a new Apple TV due to having issues with my current box and need this released soon. Was hoping it was going to be introduced with the iPhones but that didnt happen. Hopefully within a few weeks this gets announced.
Totally agree.no need for an upgrade unless your playing games. What it does need is better support for broadcasting standards as used by the BBC and other European countries. Still no UHD and subtitles for BBC iPlayer.

Wow, Apple’s getting so creative and innovative. Let me guess what they’re gonna call the media event when they release the new Apple TV the new HomePod2 and the AirTag 2 possibly. “ Home for the holidays” or “good to be home.” Or “No place like home.”

I have a second gen 4K ATV, just recently had to buy a new remote thanks to my toddler somehow destroying their previous one. I keenly waited for the keynote for a new ATV announcement, but nada by Apple then went ahead and spent annoying amount of money for a "new" remote.

Oh well.

Apple's release schedule for Apple TV makes absolutely zero sense. Also, I must've blacked out or something because I don't even recall a 3rd generation 4K Apple TV that came out a year after the last one. I must've just said screw that and not purchased one.

Typically I upgrade each time and trickle down the chain to the next less used TV in the house. Explains a lot, actually, as when I built my home theater last autumn I moved our latest Apple TV down there and put the one on the crappy old TV we had for the kids upstairs I've noticed it can be super laggy and it keeps having issues connecting to the Remote app on my iPhone. That would be the 1st gen 4K from 2017. Frick that was 8 years ago!

Buying this day one. 2nd gen Apple TV 4K is still running great and I can move it upstairs. The Apple TV 4K 1st gen can replace the 10 year old 4th gen Apple TV (HD) in my workshop that I don't use much. Should run faster since it would be powering an old 1080p TV.

Is there any reason to not simply use the AppleTV app that you can install via webOS on new flat screens? we currently have an ancient AppleTV - with a missing remote, which is no doubt lodged in the sofa somewhere (worst remote ever designed imo - thin, too sensitive, can’t tell which way is up when picking it up). AppleTV+ interface is my least favorite of all streaming services.

Dear Apple. Please make this do more then Just be faster and have a stupid camera (i doubt it). Add some hardware audio and video things that currently limit apps like plex and games from doing cool things.... Good Day
I also doubt Apple adds a camera. FaceTime is my favorite AppleTV feature. It would be great if I didn’t need to break out my iPhone to use FaceTime on the AppleTV, but it might be tough to add a comparable camera and microphone without pushing the price up a lot.

I got mine 4K 3rd generation connected through Ethernet so I’m not sure if I need to upgrade. They should allow Xbox cloud gaming app on it and GeForce now also games like Diablo immortal that can be played with controller.
These types of apps already exist. OneCast is a fantastic app that allows you to either connect remotely to your Xbox or do Xbox Cloud Gaming. It has great performance and works great with my Xbox controller paired to the Apple TV. This makes it really easy for me to play games on any TV in the house without needing to move my Xbox around everywhere

I have been waiting but if the new unit does not have

1 Hi Res audio.
2. Vc1 video codec
3. True Bitstream audio

Then it’s a no go. Then i will just get a device that has.

Think it will have newer chip and everything else will remain as it is now. Think the price also will be the same. Maybe the current generation will then be available for $99. Expecting Apple to announce it anytime soon.

Since I have bought and connected my Mac mini to my TV, I have no need for an Apple TV anymore. Navigating better with a trackpad/mouse imo

Who needs this with a Smart TV anymore? I haven't used my Apple TV in years.
I loathe the smart TV interfaces. Every time I've used one it was slow and clunky and the remote was equally clunky to use. Plus if you're concerned about user privacy and data mining, then a smart TV interface is something to be avoided. The Apple TV, in my opinion is the least invasive on the latter part.

A few years ago I was able to find a dumb TV, 65" and bought it for my main TV in the house and I paired it with the Apple TV. I don't think I could be any happier.

A17 seems under powered if they want to lean into gaming
A17 Pro was in the iPhone 15 Pro so it would work. That ran Death Stranding and AC Mirage. The advantage of the Apple TV is that the processor doesn't have to factor in heat generation or battery. They can run it at full throttle with no issues.

There was a suspicious lack of any 'flex' at Android from the A19 at the iPhone event. They normally have some sort of exclusive gaming announcement go live during the event. A17 Pro is technically on-par with Series S and Switch 2. They could be holding back those announcements for the next AppleTV.

I'm hopeful that alongside the AppleTV they announce a glut of game streaming apps (which are now allowed) and some native ports. As the ATV is essentially an iPhone in a box they should put some code in that lets it play every single controller-enabled iOS game on a TV. This would give them an instant library of hundreds of titles overnight.

Id be happy with a remote that doesn't provoke fury. When I bought my 4k after about a week I got an email from Apple asking what I thought of 'the experience'. I replied with the longest bloody email you can imagine about a remote with 6 buttons on it. Never did get a reply lol.

I'm holding off for an update so would welcome this. My current HD ATV is quite laggy when switching between apps, and it doesn't always like to play ball with the media on my Mac. It'd be my go to for the streaming apps we have as the sound quality is far superior over using the same apps via my Sky Q box, but it's that flippin' remote. My children just can't get on with the smooth little touchpad, and neither can my wife to be honest, so I'm the only one who has the patience for it. 😂

I don't need bells and whistles, I don't need a camera or screen on it or anything like that-just a decent internal update to bring it inline with all of their other products.

They need to install more interal storage and allow developers to have full range of the hardware for gaming.
I dont play games on my phone. I dont like using the screen and a small screen to play the game.
But if they were on Apple TV, ray tracing etc.. Well take my money.

Given the ones at work are mounted on the back of the TV and the one at home is behind the soundbar, I'm not sure how a camera is going to be very useful... But I'll be interested to see what the improved performance brings. I'd probably move the one from the main TV in the lounge to replace the FireTV stick in the bedroom...
