My 3rd Gen 4k ATVs are good, but please redesign the remote.
SAME CRAPPY REMOTE
To everyone complaining about the remote: you can already use nearly any remote you want to. Either another device’s remote through HDMI/CEC (I use my receiver’s remote this way, works great) or you can go in the settings and teach it the codes for any IR remote.great! now can we work on getting a better remote please?
It never worked for me. It tries to control the TV and the ATV at the same time. The odd time that it did work it kept forgetting the settings and then did nothing resulting in hard resets of EVERYTHING and trying again and again until I gave up.To everyone complaining about the remote: you can already use nearly any remote you want to. Weird, CEC works great for me. Navigation and playback controls, menu and back, all passed through to ATV, and anything receiver-specific works as expected. No setup, just turned on CEC on each device. It never worked for me. It tries to control the TV and the ATV at the same time. I have a 3rd gen. I really do not see the need here. Apple would have been better off holding off until next year and adding an A19 Pro and 12GB of RAM.Still rocking a 1st gen 4K with the A10X. I don’t notice any lag when streaming Disney+ or Netflix. Might upgrade to the new one, can’t believe it is 8 years old.
Anyone else like me where their 1st gen 4K is still working well?
No ads. ATV ftw!It does 4k and plex, but costs more. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad
Even better: USB-powered. A man can dreamIs it gonna have a USB-C port on it? I could use one or two of those for charging a remote or for sending info / data to a monitor.
P.S. Would be nice to just have a cable around to charge a remote or an iPhone. Or to hook up a keyboard/mouse.
A17 Pro was in the iPhone 15 Pro so it would work. That ran Death Stranding and AC Mirage. The advantage of the Apple TV is that the processor doesn't have to factor in heat generation or battery. They can run it at full throttle with no issues.
There was a suspicious lack of any 'flex' at Android from the A19 at the iPhone event. They normally have some sort of exclusive gaming announcement go live during the event. A17 Pro is technically on-par with Series S and Switch 2. They could be holding back those announcements for the next AppleTV.
I'm hopeful that alongside the AppleTV they announce a glut of game streaming apps (which are now allowed) and some native ports. As the ATV is essentially an iPhone in a box they should put some code in that lets it play every single controller-enabled iOS game on a TV. This would give them an instant library of hundreds of titles overnight.
Quotes for those game sales seem to be quite low, yet Square Enix and Capcom keep coming back for more so there must be some money in premium mobile titles.I think they will announce the next resident evil on Mac/iOS soon. There is a screen shot of what appears to be the next Resident Evil running on the Mac. I doubt they announce any streaming apps for gaming.
That, and they've started monitoring you and what you see so they can monetize it. My smart-Tv is not connected to a network except for the occasional update.Largely because the interface for most smart tvs have been designed by blind pigeons.
Niether is mine but the remote and the interface are still like crawling through treacle. In all the years I've had an Apple TV I've never had a problem with it. Its easily my favourite Apple product: slick and to the point. That, and they've started monitoring you and what you see so they can monetize it. I don’t have this problem with my 2nd gen 4k Apple TV. But I don’t use many apps. Probably 6 3rd party app. All streaming appsMight be getting this, if at a lower price.
My current 2nd gen 4k has no issues streaming, but the UI is quite laggy when switching between apps, and it only holds 2 apps in RAM, when u switch to the app I used 2 apps ago, that app is being reloaded and I have to go find the show that I was watching... it's an annoying behavior
