Sadly, iPad mini 6 doesn’t actually have quad speakers like iPad Pro despite the quad-holes layout.

Expect the price to go up to $429, or $399 for education.

The iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini all had price hikes when they went to a flat design and USB-C.
I think Inflation round the world means a likely price increase, at least Apple appear to be making an effort with the 10th edition.

Seems unlikely they would develop an entirely new design for their cheapest iPad. Seems more likely/economical for them to dust off the 10.5” Pro/Air 3 design and swap the lightning connector for USB-C. Can’t imagine them going to the squared body style and not ditching the home button at the same time.
it would likely need to have the square design to support apple pencil 2 charging

Hang on they've kept the home button!! It just doesn't need to be there anymore with how iPadOS works now.

There's also no Smart Connector on the rear which makes me doubt the accuracy of these renders. They've probably got the overall form factor and screen correct but not the fine details.
Is have thought Touch ID on the power button would be carried over from the air

These iPads are mostly used by schools and elderly. Both of which may find the simplicity of a button beneficial.

You can still use iOS with gestures even with the home button there.

Something very off-putting about the rumored design/look... this half squared, half classic appearance... icky.

But I am curious to see if this turns out to be true.
That's the designs we get from the Current design team, without Jony Ive
I too really hope this is not the design, I would rather prefer the old design than this new uglier one

Wouldn’t this effectively kill the iPad Air 5?
Sure it may be a tad slower but quad speakers?

Not really. The iPad Air 5 has a M1 chip and thus, gets all the fancy new exclusive iPadOS 16 features.

Also, most likely, those are just added holes for design purposes and not actually 4 speakers.

Plus, you are stuck with Apple Pencil 1

Yeah I don't buy that they'd put quad speakers in this, but the basic landscape stereo separation that the mini/air have is still pretty nice.

Also interesting that they might opt to literally combine two different designs into one. Might end up looking horrible, but Ive's not there to stop them I guess. :p

Honestly, if they would get rid of the touch ID home button I would probly get this instead of the Air when my budget allows. The Air really is overkill for my needs. But, that is probably why Apple is keeping the button.

Oh great, they're gonna cut the headphone jack from the entry level iPad now too

Had to check the sides of my Air to see if there actually was a headphone jack or not. Never needed it. But loss of functionality would suck nonetheless. I like that ports are making a return on Pro devices. We’ll see what they do to iPad.

The Air and Pro lost their headphones jacks a long time ago, but the vanilla iPad still had it, even recently.

I just ordered the iPad Pro 11”. Should I cancel? I am taking advantage of the $50 off and the $100 Apple gift card in the education store.

I fully agree with you it is unacceptable to not have a headphone jack on iPads but can certainly explain why. I imagine a large part of the headphone users end up getting some bluetooth earphones, and a large part of these will get Apple's own earphones which most likely generate a nice margin to the company. So, as a vendor, you get to spare a $5 part on a $1k device, and then you sell more $150 or $200 devices. This is why...

As to the "just use the usb-c port" response: since I have an iPad pro 11", I got a dongle to plug the audio and have endless problems with it. Either the sound is not high enough or the mike does not work, or its usb-c pass through port charges too slowly. It is insane... And no, I will not be happy with BT headphones either.
Recently I used my wired Shure earphones with the lighting adapter, it surprised me how much better they sounded than my bluetooth earphones (Anker and Airpod Pros)

The back facing camera is also stupid on a tablet, especially when it needs a bump. Probably every person who owns an iPad also has a phone, just save some cost and get rid of it.
I don’t have a smart phone. Never have. Never will.
I play music on my Android tablet.
I would like the back camera to have a flash/flashlight.
The perfect tablet would have FM receiver, stand-alone GPS, and the above mentioned back camera. Front camera mounted in landscape mode.
