I never thought about that. Is there any other Apple produced device that has a male lightning connector like the pencil that would be suddenly incompatible when they drop Lightning?
Apple offers a bunch of dongle adapters and a card reader, but there are cheaper third-party USB-C alternatives that should work just fine (and entry level iPad users are unlikely to have invested in these items in large numbers).

I never understood a player without a screen.
Kind of like listening to (analog) radio, only that you can supply the full playlist reservoir and no moderator is ruining the titles. Or maybe like a mixtape that the player is arranging for you in real-time. For people on a very tight budget it might have been a b.t.n. tool for music playback.

Disclaimer: Never owned a player without screen and never longed for one.

Stop clinging to this analog port. Buy old devices if you want old features. I don’t whine that my mbp doesn’t have a serial port.

Apple doesn’t just get to save one port and sell more AirPods, they also get to remove an internal DAC. It’s such a stark contrast to be outputting an analog signal from some of todays most modern digital devices. And im just gonna say what others have, the usb-c port is todays most modern port, and you can get a DAC plugged into that if you need this analog signal.
You have no idea what you are taking about. Remove the internal DAC... And how do you expect to hear sounds on your iPad speakers, Einstein?

This sounds like a great way to unify the various iPad form factors around the 2nd gen Apple Pencil and the current smart / magic keyboard designs.

Agree. Trickle down just like the iPhone designs. What is this years Pro design will become next years Non-Pro design.

Paul McCartney said the same thing while playing one of his old Beatles records on the Apple label. He also believes a new Mac mini is almost certainly coming.

What’s my fault?
Reread your own reply.
Not for specific niche use cases

The Shuffle, in particular, did (and still does, for those of us that have it) a very unique and specialized set of things that smartphones are far too large and bulky for.
“Niche use cases” don’t help sales.
My vision is not compatible with a screen smaller than 10 inches.
Born with poor eyesight and it never gets better.
I have the fonts on my iPad 7 pushed as high as they can go. That’s life.
My old Sansa player was miserable on my eyes. The new one should be better.
The only dead one is the iPod.
It lived a long life and would continue if Apple wasn’t so nearsighted.
Sorry, but you’re the only one who’s nearsighted. 🤷‍♂️

You may be confused with respectful and sarcastic.
Funny how the people I get along with the most are non-Apple users, Android for example.
I mostly like the forum and commenting about various things.
At the same time, I probably won't ever buy another Apple product.
My Android tablet, which was made fun of as cheap, is just barely a little slower than my iPad.
I can't always install apps from Google Play. Been that way for years.
The only benefit to the iPad.
My Android tablet has 64GB storage. iPad, only 32, because it is 2019.
Android has 4GB RAM. iPad is perhaps just 3.
I don't really care what happens with the next iPad. I won't ever buy another one.
Just curious reading and commenting.

Your like me, you buy what suits for your needs regardless of brand. This place is as toxic as any other "branded" tech firm. i.e Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft....

There are plenty of Android forums out there. I'm sure you'd fit better in one of them.

Every forum seems to be toxic nowadays. On the other hand, this one is "toxic" for reasons you might not even realize!
Now you're the voice of reason?
There are non-iOS forums right here.
Maybe you'd like to explain your toxic comments.
Perhaps you haven't a clue how annoying leading comments can be.

sounds good to me, use the iPad Pro 11/ iPad Air 5 form factor, insert smaller less high quality display with larger bezels (logically a 10.5” or 10.8” if you read rumours), use usb-c for common charging and pencil. You would then in theory be able to purchase a magic keyboard as well.

just a pity that iPadOS is likely not going to be fully featured for non M1 iPads but A14 isn’t a slouch.

You aren’t a real DJ if you think that other DJs don’t understand sound. You represent a minority that’s practically nonexistent. 🤷‍♂️
Sorry to disappoint you but anyone can be a DJ.
Like you, I've been on this earth nearly
60 years and have spent 40 as an audio engineer.
The Djs that I've talked to,
many clearly do not understand audio.
I'm not representing anyone. I like to use iPhones and iPads that have a
headphone jack so I can run the audio into a mixing board.
Just my opinion. You of course are welcome to have an opinion as well.
