The adapters are flimsy. I don't need them. They are patiently waiting until someday when I do.
I don't care to represent anyone else, but I'm not alone.
Insulting my choice of tablet is not necessary. Has everything I want less GPS.
It is better in some ways than my iPad. Even though my iPad was refurbished and cost $209, my Nokia T20 is just as functional and was on sale for $179.
Better than Amazon Fire 10. Better than Samsung Galaxy Tab A.
For the money I paid, better than iPad.

I never wear earbuds. Never! On ear only. Why drop that kind of money when my hearing is poor. My JVC headphones were probably around $25.
Earbuds, headphones, whatever. I don’t care… 🤷‍♂️

Also, I’m not trying to insult you.
Yeah no, I'll be looking at the 9 then!
Over a headphone jack? How bizarre…
and I don't get the logic. I didn't like the removal on the iPhone but why on the iPad,
in an effort to make it even thinner?
I assume that most consumers weren’t using it much.
Well if you like your wired headphones and if you like to DJ then this port is essential.
But yes, I'll be buying the 9.
It really isn’t “essential” for most people. Most DJ’s use computers, not tablets.
and may give you brain cancer.
Where did you read that? Goop?

Seriously, this thread has a higher chance of giving me brain cancer than any pair of AirPods ever could… 🤦‍♂️

This design with flat edges yet a square (not rounded) display is the worst looking product ever. Dont know what the design team has in mind for this stupid design that looks half-baked, and certainly does not have Apple's obsession with geometry and perfectly pleasing rounded corners.

Apple needs to stop trying to capture every price segment in the market with these half-baked products, and just make one iPad that is the best (iPad Pro), put the most innovative features in it, and let people naturally swarm over to get their hands on the best iPad because they lust for the revolutionary features. Back to the good old Steve Jobs days when he would not make anything that he's not truly proud of.

This is my favorite post on the forum in many months...

Yes, yes and YES!

Typing to you on my iPad mini. Aka, “the best iPad” ;)

Clickbait YouTubers really made that issue overblown. Did you own an M2 MacBook Air yourself and have overheating issues? I assume you purchased an M2 MacBook Air because you didn’t plan on doing anything intensive with it.
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot force it to drink.

The MacBooks have a headphone jack because it fits and is more common to use than it would be on a mobile device.
Right. The Sony Walkman, the iPods, and EVERY other mobile device got it wrong the first time all the way until Apple decided to sell AirPods COINCIDENTALLY at the same time they removed the jack from their mobile devices. Something that Apple admitted plainly that required "courage".

And they had plenty of it to tell you to your face. But it worked out for them, didn't it? So much so that here you are defending the decision.

Stop clinging to this analog port. Buy old devices if you want old features. I don’t whine that my mbp doesn’t have a serial port.
But it DOES have the analog port you deride. Enough with the "serial port" and "floppy disk" comparisons. They're nowhere near equivalent examples.

Apple doesn’t just get to save one port and sell more AirPods, they also get to remove an internal DAC. It’s such a stark contrast to be outputting an analog signal from some of todays most modern digital devices.
The two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. Apple did this INTENTIONALLY, as both choices makes them more money. That's capitalism, baby.

And im just gonna say what others have, the usb-c port is todays most modern port, and you can get a DAC plugged into that if you need this analog signal.
True, and irrelevant.

But so is whining about the loss of the headphone jack. It's gone, and it may not be coming back.

Using Apple products is a luxury, and hey, using my headphone jack-less iPhone, iPad, and AirPods Pro combo has been a luxurious experience. I detest plugging in now. I raged against this for a while, but eventually I got thru the 5 stages of grief.

Touch ID/home button on the flat edge design actually looks kinda cool ngl. But then again it started with the iPhone 4 so it's not a surprise. That design trend never followed the iPad though at the time.

The back facing camera is also stupid on a tablet, especially when it needs a bump. Probably every person who owns an iPad also has a phone, just save some cost and get rid of it.
False. I have an iPad and a flip phone. I don't use either of the cameras much, but I do occasionally take a picture of a flower and run it through Plantnet to figure out what it is.

Losing the headphone jack is a bigger deal, but I don't use that very much either. My iPod works better for on the go music. When that wears out I'm going to have a problem. The current alternatives seem to be strictly MP3.

Honest question, do you really like charging headphone batteries nearly continuously? Is putting them on the charger nightly just part of the going to bed ritual?

I'm an old DJ.
Phonograph records, CDs, and cassettes.
I could use 2 tablets as a DJ tool.
The problem is software.
Good DJ software is not likely on any tablet.
I used to know a blind lady who used good old Winamp to do her radio show.
I would use Windows only for DJ software, so yes, a notebook.
Not sure if Quick Time is still a Windows option.
I would never spend too much money for any Mac.

Must be an age thing? 🤣

Kids of today seem of like not owning anything. I find it bonkers that I have to pay for apple music to play some of the music I already own by voice on my homepods.

I hereby nail my colours to Spaceboi Scaphandre's mast in lamenting the demise of the headphone jack.

These stupid camera bumps, especially on the iPad
It would be so cool if Apple offered two versions to choose from, one with no rear camera at all (only front facing camera) and one with cameras on both sides as it is now for those weirdos who think they need a rear camera on an iPad. I would go for the version without rear camera in a heart beat.

Just put the touchid in the power button. Can’t believe they even bother with a redesign.

Also, can we finally retire the Apple Pencil 1 and it’s ridiculous charging set up?
You do know that you can buy charging cables for Apple Pencil I use a special cable for mine I never use my iPad to charge it

This thing looks pretty bad. Worst of all worlds shape/screen combo, big camera bump, loses the headphone jack. It seems to have lost the charm of the current low-end iPad.

I think the main reason Apple is updating the design is to allow an upsell of the pen and (extremely pricey) keyboard accessories.

I think the term continuously is hyperbolic. AirPods charge in the case when I put them away, so there's no thinking involved. I don't wear my AirPods continuously; my headphone habits are not far from what it was when I was wired, but I do wear the APs more due to their ease of use and unobtrusiveness.

Yes, it is for me. No different that charging my iPhone or iPad Pro.

I actually have an inexpensive, non-MagSafe 3-in-1 charge station (also has a spot for the Watch), which sits neatly next to my plugged-in iPad Magic Keyboard on my nightstand. Nice and tidy.

It was you, Jony, who brought the square edges all the way back starting with the iPhone 4.

Nevertheless, taste is subjective. I prefer rounded edges myself (like the iPhone 11), but I LOVE my iPad Pro's design as well.

Sorry mate, but one size does not fit all. Especially once a product becomes mature. Macs, MacBooks, iPods, iPhones, etc have come in a variety of sizes and configs and price-points well before Steve passed away.

ALL the iPads are excellent devices; The base iPad is the greatest deal in computing history.

I truly don't agree with the complaint of addressing different price points/use cases with them.

Every product sold out there does this, from vehicles to cereal.

Damn it, I'm hungry...
