My Nokia T20 has a back camera bump, but it also has a flash/flashlight.
I'm sure some could care less about the back camera and if the iPad didn't have it, at a lower price, I see it a good option.
Maybe 2 front cameras, portrait and landscape.
My T20 has a landscape camera.
I don't think Apple would lower the price option for an iPad without back camera to make a difference.

These people buy Macs, not entry level iPads. Strawman argument.
Not every one or at least not me, I've been DJING with an iPhone and my iPad for 12 years or more
and it works fine, less things to lose and get broken. Just saying, those damn adapters
get lost and cause problems but for me the iPad 9 will work fine anyway.

Apple is expected to update its entry-level 10.2-inch iPad later this year and newly leaked renders offer a look at what to expect.

10th-Generation-iPad-MySmartPrice-Render.jpg

The 10th-generation iPad could feature a design closer to that of the latest iPad mini, with flat edges, a rear camera bump, and more, according to renders of the alleged device obtained by MySmartPrice from a case maker.

The report also reiterates previous rumors about the 10th-generation iPad, including a larger display, a USB-C port, A14 Bionic chip, 5G support, and more.

Based on the renders, the 10th-generation iPad's chassis would have rounded corners, but the display would stick with squared off corners. This less premium design would be suitable for the entry-level iPad, which currently starts at $329. Given the redesign, however, it is possible the 10th-generation iPad will see a slight price increase.

10th-Generation-iPad-Render-MySmartPrice-2.jpg

The renders suggest that the 10th-generation iPad will stick with a Touch ID home button and thicker top and bottom bezels surrounding the display, whereas all other iPad models have switched to either Face ID or a Touch ID power button with thinner bezels. A single lens is expected for both the front and rear cameras. It also appears that Apple plans to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack, as it has on other iPhones and iPads.

MySmartPrice claims the rear camera's pill-shaped housing will include an LED flash, but the small hole shown in the renders could be a microphone instead.

Dimensions for the 10th-generation iPad will be 248.62mm (height) x 179.50mm (width) x 6.98mm (depth), according to the report. This would make the 10th-generation iPad slightly wider but slightly thinner than the 9th-generation iPad.

Apple is expected to announce the 10th-generation iPad alongside new iPad Pro models with the M2 chip later this year. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently reported that Apple plans to release iPadOS 16 to the public in October, so perhaps the 10th-generation iPad and new iPad Pro models will be unveiled in October as well.

Apple released the 9th-generation iPad in September 2021, with key features including a 10.2-inch display, an A13 Bionic chip, an upgraded 12-megapixel front camera with support for the Center Stage feature, True Tone, double the base storage, and more.

i love how people are still arguing and hating the action of removing the headphone jack in 2022

Earbuds, headphones, whatever. I don’t care… 🤷‍♂️

Also, I’m not trying to insult you.

Over a headphone jack? How bizarre…

I assume that most consumers weren’t using it much.

It really isn’t “essential” for most people. Most DJ’s use computers, not tablets.

Where did you read that? Goop?
View attachment 2039195

Seriously, this thread has a higher chance of giving me brain cancer than any pair of AirPods ever could… 🤦‍♂️
Most Djs? I don't know about that but I like the touchscreen for changing songs on the fly,
I have 3 laptops but I don't use them for Djing, but maybe try decaf if this is too much for you? :)

This design with flat edges yet a square (not rounded) display is the worst looking product ever. Dont know what the design team has in mind for this stupid design that looks half-baked, and certainly does not have Apple's obsession with geometry and perfectly pleasing rounded corners.

Apple needs to stop trying to capture every price segment in the market with these half-baked products, and just make one iPad that is the best (iPad Pro), put the most innovative features in it, and let people naturally swarm over to get their hands on the best iPad because they lust for the revolutionary features. Back to the good old Steve Jobs days when he would not make anything that he's not truly proud of.
Are you just salty after being let go by Apple? 🧂
Whom are you referring to?
The one that’s speaking in the video!
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot force it to drink.
English, please.
But it DOES have the analog port you deride. Enough with the "serial port" and "floppy disk" comparisons. They're nowhere near equivalent examples.
Were you still clinging to your serial ports and floppy disks in the early 2000s? ;)
Touch ID/home button on the flat edge design actually looks kinda cool ngl. But then again it started with the iPhone 4 so it's not a surprise. That design trend never followed the iPad though at the time.
I’m glad it didn’t. Imagine having an iPad with a glass back! Imagine the cracks!
Honest question, do you really like charging headphone batteries nearly continuously? Is putting them on the charger nightly just part of the going to bed ritual?
It isn’t as continuous as most people think. Being able to quickly recharge them overnight is highly convenient.
Kids of today seem of like not owning anything. I find it bonkers that I have to pay for apple music to play some of the music I already own by voice on my homepods.
You can’t expect it to be free. 🤷‍♂️
Might be happening, making the design similar across the iPad lineup. Hope there won't be any price increase.
There seems to be a price increase after every single redesign.
These stupid camera bumps, especially on the iPad
It would be so cool if Apple offered two versions to choose from, one with no rear camera at all (only front facing camera) and one with cameras on both sides as it is now for those weirdos who think they need a rear camera on an iPad. I would go for the version without rear camera in a heart beat.
They aren’t “weirdos” as you put it. They’re workers who need the back camera in order to scan documents. They contribute more to society than any comment on this forum ever has.
You do know that you can buy charging cables for Apple Pencil I use a special cable for mine I never use my iPad to charge it
The Apple Pencil doesn’t have a port.
I wish Apple had less product skews.
Just have:
iPad mini
iPad (which is the Air)
iPad Pro 12.9

Retire gen 1 Apple Pencil and Lightning.
There needs to be a cheaper iPad, so that definitely isn’t an option. Also, what about the 11-inch iPad Pro that everybody loves?
This thing looks pretty bad. Worst of all worlds shape/screen combo, big camera bump, loses the headphone jack. It seems to have lost the charm of the current low-end iPad.

I think the main reason Apple is updating the design is to allow an upsell of the pen and (extremely pricey) keyboard accessories.
Or maybe it’s just the fact that the design is outdated?

Considering how this is supposed to be the cheapest iPad, I don’t think that most people will care about the loss of the headphone jack, the camera bump, and the front of the device.

I know, it blows my mind. In a hundred years from now, people will still be whining about the removal of the headphone jack.
The new Samsung tablet no longer has a headphone jack.
Which one?
I can see it on the iPhone, doesn't make sense on the iPad.
It makes perfect sense on both kinds of devices. 🤷‍♂️

Most DJs definitely don’t use a touchscreen. If you’ve ever seen a different DJ, they’re using a Mac.

Well makes sense, iPad had a more larger display and was designed to satisfy both desktop requests functionality and convenient interface like a phone, so it is hard to decide, but I do agree they should keep it on the basic iPad.

The new Samsung Tab S8 series for sure.
Maybe the Tab S7s.
Their website doesn’t list headphone jack (yes/no) for Tab S7.
I haven’t done DJ work since 1991.
I wouldn’t convert all my CDs to digital.
So I would spin CDs the old fashioned way.
I would invest in 2 portable CD players.

I"d say use whatever it takes to get the job done. I prefer using a touchscreen.
Using an Iphone also makes it possible to download music that the audience requests.
And sometimes the wifi is not up to par.
Using a mac doesn't make the music any better. In fact most Djs that I've seen
really don't understand sound. But again, whatever gets the job done.

You aren’t a real DJ if you think that other DJs don’t understand sound. You represent a minority that’s practically nonexistent. 🤷‍♂️

My work in radio was not as a DJ.
The first time was an automated station and I was there to keep an eye on things and take the transmitter readings every 3 hours. I recorded newscasts.
The second time was a station that used a satellite delivery service most of the time. I inserted commercials and did the top of the hour weather.
My DJ work in 1991 was at a small lounge with a small dance floor. I was well skilled in the type of music needed for different types of dancing. Ballroom stuff like the Waltz or Tango, for example. It was called "The Golden Classics Show," and I did a marvelous job, if I say so myself, of playing songs to dance to from the 1940s forward.
2 Turntables, 2 CD players and yep, a cassette deck. Everything went into a "board," a mixer, and that's where the headphones went, mostly to cue records.
I'm 65 and digital sucks. I'm a total analog freak! I would never use a computing device to do DJ work.
If someone wants to use an iPad or iPhone without a 3.5 output jack, use the USB-C or Lightning connector to 3.5 output jack, and plug headphones into the mixing console, along with your music playback devices.
I realize things change, but I'm not going to change with them. In too many ways, the transformation to digital from analog has messed with both my vision and hearing.

[…]. I imagine a large part of the headphone users end up getting some bluetooth earphones, and a large part of these will get Apple's own earphones which most likely generate a nice margin to the company. So, as a vendor, you get to spare a $5 part on a $1k device, and then you sell more $150 or $200 devices. This is why...

People are going to do what they do headphone jack or not. My 7th gen iPad has a headphone Mac I don’t use it. I have 4 Bluetooth headphones: AirPods og, AirPods Pro, qc 2 and a crap set of corwin e7. People buy the AirPods because they are a known quantity and will buy them, imo, irrespective of headphone jack or not.

My 2005 Sansa Clip+ finally died as the battery won't hold a charge anymore. Best $50 I ever spent.
I've sent for a new one, the lowest priced one, as it is the only unit to still have a micro SD slot.
The FM radio is still there, but you can't make recordings from it anymore.
According to reviews, it isn't the same build quality as before. But it is $20 less.
I don't use the headphone jack on my iPad 7 either. I have no music on it and don't have iTunes for Windows installed.
I did a clean install of Windows 11 and don't really see the need to install iTunes.
As for DJ on a computer, I'd need to have the same app in a dual-instance setup, so I could segue songs the old fashioned way. No need for headphones as there isn't a separate cue feature on any app I'm aware of. All audio would be in real time.
EDIT: Looks like QT for Windows doesn't work well with anything beyond Windows 7.
Winamp and VLC player support dual instance use. Winamp is coming back.
I don't have or want a Mac, just to be clear.
I would not be willing to pay for DJ software. For that matter, no interest in doing DJ work these days. Just making a statement.

Those SanDisk players are really great

I wish Apple still made new Shuffles and Minis (even though those were never as versatile as the SanDisks)

The smartphone killed the MP3 player.
My vision is not compatible with a screen smaller than 10 inches.
Born with poor eyesight and it never gets better.
I have the fonts on my iPad 7 pushed as high as they can go. That’s life.
My old Sansa player was miserable on my eyes. The new one should be better.
The only dead one is the iPod.
It lived a long life and would continue if Apple wasn’t so nearsighted.

I never understood a player without a screen.

Perfect tiny and super lightweight device for working out/running, etc..

I just keep my exercise playlist on there, so the order isn't important (in fact I prefer a random shuffle on exercise songs) .. and with no screen, the battery life is superb.

I wish they'd made one final Shuffle with BT though, as I do love my airpods. I would have gladly swallowed the battery hit.
