Why on earth would you want health monitoring features in airpods? That's what the Apple Watch is for. Spare the health features and stick to other improvements. I fully expect to hear about a new Apple Pencil with "health monitoring features" next year now...

So they can justify the inevitable price increase. Cooks new Apple.

The first gen AirPods have been great, i use them everyday, a new second generation will be an instant buy for me :)

Silly folks say Apple doesn't innovate. But AirPods took over the wireless headphone market. I'd say it is a toss up as to which is more dominate in their respective markets, AirPods or Apple's Watch. Both are great. Both are very innovative.

Though for the last three weeks I haven't been able to find my AirPods! I'm sure they are somewhere. And the free Beats that I got with some Apple purchase a year or two ago are working great in this cold weather. So no worries. But if they are truly lost, then I'm going to hold off until these come out. Heck, I'm likely buying these even if I find my old ones.

Well if it doesn't monitor anything other than heartbeat, then I'd agree. Though many folks will have AirPods but not Apple Watch. But could it monitor temperature? Or something else?

The mention appears in an article focusing on how wearables are expected to drive rigid-flex PCB market growth in 2019, but the report cites no sources for the AirPods rumor, and only mentions that Tiawan-based printed circuit board makers Zhen Ding Tech and Flexium Interconnect supply components for Apple Watch and AirPods "at the moment."

Do you mean Taiwan?

I have had my Gen 1 AirPods since launch and find them indispensable. The battery life has significantly deteriorated, which is not unexpected given how much use they get. I have been holding off buying a replacement set in the hopes of a Gen 2 refresh. I will hold off a bit longer...

Same here. I’ve has my AirPods for just under 2 years now, and now I only get 1.5 hours out of them. I’m really hoping I can hold out until they release new ones.

Not digging the relocation of the LED, but I can cover it up with a case anyway. Wireless charging is cool but not a must-have for me. Increased range would be awesome but I am plenty happy with the range it already has! Just improve the battery life and we're good.

What a load of nonsense. Why would I need health monitoring in some earphones? Build earphones/headphones with better sound & noise cancellation then I'll give Apple my attention rather than spending my money on Bose & Sony audio gear.

well, maybe something with blood or noise , who cares --- they want to shift to health, well, idc

I would hope for noise. I recently noticed how loud I have to play my earPods when there is any ambient noise and can't imagine its doing me any favors.

With all the amazing third party headphones that does the exact same for a third of the price, I don't see this product be relevant for anyone other than fanatic Apple consumers.

I'd be a little leery about the prospect of having to spend $150+ every 2 years on disposable headphones.

All of Apple's offerings are disposable. It's the age of disposable consumer technology.

They don't want you using anything for longer than 3 years and then have the absolute cheek to shove their environmental credentials down the throat of anyone who's stupid enough to listen.

Hurry up Apple! I've lost my old AirPods and am really missing them but don't want to replace them now with a new model on the horizon. Though no doubt as soon as I get some new ones the old ones will turn up again.

Airpods is one product which needs no changing at all feature and functionality wise. The health monitoring and water resistance is nice and all... but I really don't want to pay extra for all of that. Just give me increased battery life, and I am a happy camper. After 1.5 years, I still get excellent battery life. And I use them a LOT on a daily basis.

I do agree with you. I mean, how many health tracking wearables do I need? Apple Watch would do just fine for me.

Yes, that does seem to be the trend across the industry, despite the rhetoric.

It's so Tim can say "We're the only company with health-tracking built-in to all of our products, and we're really excited about it!" /s

I didn't get them right away, used BeatsX for a year first. EarPods didn't fit me and didn't impress me, BeatsX seemed like a perfect combination of in-ear design and wireless at the time. But yeah, AirPods impressed me right from the unboxing. One of the best Apple products in recent history.

Same route as me, I also used the BeatsX at first.

I hope healthcare functionality doesn't mean having to go through certification and approval like the Apple Watch, with everyone having to pay for functionality that only works in the US.

I've got a pair of Sony wireless headphones and my battery life hasn't deteriorated, which was unexpected given how much use they get. :D

How about different colors? Black or Space Gray would actually have me more excited than any new feature. White AirPods just look dumb on a person. :p
