Can't wait for some new hardware to lust over.

I wonder if the 15" cMBP will stay... I'm guessing no but the 13" cMBP to remain.

interesting. This is likely the high-end stock rMBP with 16 gb of ram and the fastest processor available from Intel with Iris Pro. For reference, last gen's similar model scores 12046 on the same test. So, slightly faster.

This would also suggest that the next gen base model will be using the i7-HQ4850. This also means that dedicated graphics are very likely not going to happen, as the difference in price for the Iris Pro compared to a nvidia 750 chip and a regular intel processor are about equal. With it's inferior performance to nvidia's 650 chip, as shown by anandtech, this is a pretty bad move in my opinion.

Guess we have to wait for Back to School to end...

Not sure if they will wait until the next event (highlighted with new iOS devices) to debut the Haswell Retina Macbook, I think Apple's current & future stance is to spread their products over the year.

But on the money with releases post-BTS :D

According to Wiki and MacTracker, previous Ivy procs for 15" MBP are rated as 45W up to 2.8GHz, used on the current high-end rMBP...

This one is rated at 47W, at only 2.4GHz Wiki listed the 4950HQ procs as the fastest in Intel's arsenal. Hot and slow...? :D:D

You are forgetting the 45W nVidia GT650M GPU the MacBook Pro has to deal with.

Iris actually scores better than the 650M if not just as close with almost half the power usage in many tests.

But I do agree that I don't see Apple leaving dedicated graphics on the 15". For 13" retina users, it'll sure be a treat.

In that same review if you look at some of the "real-world" tests such as the Crysis 3 test and other games, the 650 still gives substantially better performance.

Iris definitely is a very nice bump up, but I'm sure 15" users will appreciate having the extra power at their disposal. Besides, Apple can still get the battery numbers by running their tests with only the Iris GPU (web surfing tests which are frequently used in battery tests wouldn't tap the dedicated GPU).

Hopefully this means the new rMBP's are near, say right after the earnings report at the end of this month. But that would mean no Thundberbolt 2 and thus no ability to drive 4K displays. Oh well, that will have to wait until the Haswell refresh in February 2014 ;)

I normally never do this, but I think I'm going to have to sell my 1st Gen rMBP and buy this one.

Each year, the consumer purchasing cycle for technology becomes less and less. We are increasingly buying into the annual release cycle.

But I'm with you on this one. Apple take my money... Been holding back for this product for a few months now

Until it got hundreds of tiny scratches on it after a few months of normal use.

Is that a common problem or unique to the iPhone 5? I've not heard any reports of the same happening to the iPod touch or the iPad mini.

I'd love an all black MBP. Maybe with the new Mac Pro looking like it's going to break away from shiny silver there is at least some hope.

I'm butt-clenchingly excited to see what the new MBPs bring to the table, especially when it comes to battery life. Things I'm sure we expect are PCIe Flash and possibly 3-4 hours more juice. But a GPU upgrade from the 650M would really seal the deal for me.

Needs to be a 2GB video card. 1GB is a joke in a pro machine.

And the 650M is so dated. It really needs to be a GTX, not a GT chip.

Release date anyone? Looking to buy a new laptop now but I'd rather hold on for this if it's coming soon.

None of the existing 13" rMBP models include a discrete GPU. Unless you're saying you hope it continues this way.

Yeah, I wasn't very clear.

I am hoping the new 13 rMBP is using the Iris Pro integrated GPU so it effectively becomes the retina MBA a lot of us really want (i.e. portable, good battery life and great screen with plenty of graphics power). The current 13" rMBP is being pushed a little too close to its graphics limit for my liking and the main reason I held off on it.

I mean seriously, what do you expect. That is normal wear and tear on a device and if you go with black, which shows scratches just like on a car, etc, then yah, it's not unique.

The issue with the phone was that the coating wasn't staying on as well as it should. Later models didn't have this issue BUT just like with anything, if you put something on it that can scratch it..it's going to scuff/scratch.

The 650 is just a mid range card. Im not sure why Apple is not going with the GTX. If they don't then these need to have the GT750M in them.

Geekbench should have a test for image retention. I'd like to know if the new model has 80% longer image retention.

I would be happy if they release the base model at $1799 without dedicated GPU, at $2199 and $2799 with a much better GPU than GT650M

How about Radeon 8870m? It would be nice

You need to stop thinking that dedicated graphics are magically more performant than "integrated ones". And the Retina MacBook Pro can barely keep up because the CPUs have to suddenly decode 4x image sizes, it has little to do with the GPU. I mean, think about it, we've been able to run multi-monitor setups on the MacBook Air with far fewer pixels and that has a far weaker GPU.

Anyway, performance specs on Iris 5200 Pro: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6993/intel-iris-pro-5200-graphics-review-core-i74950hq-tested

Basically, GPU performance is slightly weaker than a GT650M. Could they include a dedicated GPU? Maybe. But that extra $100 from the eDRAM which Intel is charging likely means no dedicated GPU. For those looking for better GPU performance, you're going to have to wait for Broadwell.

not that significant with my 2011 sandy bridge which score 10000ish
but the battery efficiency is a plus.

guessing it will be release after maverick's launch.

Don't agree. In fact the release cycles are increasing but the buying cycles are extending. Most of my iPhone 4 friends didn't upgrade to the 5. They are waiting for the 5s or even 6 because the phone does what they need it to do.

Cycles are increasing for release but buying cycles are extending. Use to be 2 years. Now more like 3 per device.

Simply put, GTX are power hungry and get very hot, while the GT750M is just a rebranded GT650M.
It's hard to imagine that they will not include itergrated graphics like the 13", as it will be a step back in many areas for the 15". Will be interesting to see what they do here

I think we might see Apple do this to the 15" line:
  • drop the non-retina model
  • make the base model use integrated graphics
  • add a good dedicated graphics card (switchable) to the upper end model

The new MBPs would look slick if they had the black anodized aluminum of the black iPhone 5. A la BlackBook :D

Not if they use the same process to anodise it. The black iphone is a scratch magnet.
