Next-Generation Apple TV With Faster Processor Coming in 2024

Apple is developing an Apple TV with a faster processor, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The set-top box will have a new chip, and it is slated to come out in the first half of 2024.

The Apple TV will have the same design as the current Apple TV 4K, with Apple not tweaking the look. Little else is known about the update at this time, but Bloomberg says that though it will have an upgraded chip, it is unlikely to support 8K video streaming.

Along with a minor update to the Apple TV, Apple has other smart home products in the works. There is a device that combines an Apple TV, smart speaker, and FaceTime camera into one, but launch timing on such a product is unclear as it has suffered some design setbacks.

Apple is also developing a smart display that would serve as a sort of home hub for controlling HomeKit devices, making FaceTime calls, and more. That product could launch as soon as 2024.

You could say the same of the iPhones/Macs in that case. They are pretty fast as well. If you don't need any faster then don't upgrade.

I would like them to make an AppleTV “dock”. Imagine current Apple TV with larger PSU and USB-C port on the front for charging laptops and iPads. Have video in on that port accessed via an app on the Apple TV

You could say the same of the iPhones/Macs in that case. They are pretty fast as well. If you don't need any faster then don't upgrade.

Maybe if Apple TV turns into a more high end gaming console. Don't see the point if the end use is 90% streaming videos, music or looking at photos. There is way more benefit to upgrade performance of a computer or phone.

Perhaps the new model is required for Apple's VR ecosystem?

Otherwise, perhaps it will be required for new software feature, such as H.266/VVC codec, new video processing engine, HDMI 2.1 SBTM, or whatever else Apple deems important enough to refresh so soon.

Prime case right here releasing hardware just to release it when not needed. Apple is being lazy and bored with this division.

I love the new 2022 model and don’t think it needs a better processor then the A15 for a while. Let’s face it, it is the chip the iPhone 13/14 has!
