Somehow I completely missed this article when it initially posted. I actually Just got a 2022 Apple TV yesterday to have the latest thinking it was going to be a while before a new update. I mainly stream, but I also use apps such as Infuse for a local streaming library and having the extra space on the 128 GB will be good for storing more meta data for content without filing up too quick. I remember on my 32 Apple TV HD, between the screensavers and my media apps, I'd get low storage alerts quite a bit. On the 64 GB versions, no out of storage messages, so those were OK. Moving forward to now, just adds a bit more cushion to storage space for local media data. Also after seeing that Apple finally added support for all major HDR formats, I also thought they were done for a while unless they still planned to do a combo unit that was rumored like a full console, or maybe HomePod Apple TV combo.

I have been using a 2021 ATV 64 GB until I got the 2022 model. The 2021 would be a good second ATV if I decided to get a second TV again.

Hey Apple, how about giving us a better remote?!
Yes with built in Find My already. I wouldn't even care if they pulled the usual BS and made it so it would only work with the newest ATV so you couldn't just buy the remote for an older model. Just have Find My already.

with the 2022 128gb ATV4K it seemed to much trying to use it with HomeKit. I already pair it with a 2022 full 8k Denon AVR that supports every possible standard and using it for its main intention as a digital streaming receiver it only limited by what it supports for video/audio codecs. Speed of going from app to app is very fast. Used as a game device, still a bit of a joke. Nicely priced.

Apart for the nice UI and app support, I think the main reason I keep and Apple TV around vs just sticking with Roku, or my Shield TV as my streaming platform is for Apple music Atmos support. When done right, spatial audio and surround music sounds great!. Since I never got into SACD when it was big,I think the multi channel features of Apple music can be a nice alternative, if done right.

@Realityck will a USB A to C cable work to charge the new remote with USB C port? I only have a short cable for a pair of headphones. Otherwise I'll have to get a new cable. my apple usb c is USB c to lightning

Yes , if your using a older USB A power charger.

However, there are plenty of adapters available that let you do all sorts of things while still keeping your USB-C device, like plugging it into an older USB-A port with a USB-C/USB-A cable that has the newer USB-C connector on one end and the older USB-A connector on the other.

If you're using an older device that only has USB-A plugs, but your computer just has a USB-C connection, you can still utilize that USB 3.1 port with that device using an adapter that has the appropriate connections on both ends (USB Type-A on one end for the device and USB Type C on the other for connecting it to the computer).

why does it need to be faster its already fast enough, what's the point of these releases
That's to misunderstand how Apple works!
Not only does it help a few people who want a faster aTV, eg for games playing, remember that Apple uses plugged in devices like aTV for yield management.
So the A15's that are slightly below spec for phones (use slightly too much energy) get stockpiled, and at some point (presumably when the previous stockpile of A12's runs out), aTV switches to using them.

It's rather magnificent how Apple manages to get value out of everything while neither wasting it nor delivering an inferior user experience (same with reusing watch SoC that's not energy-efficient enough for HomePod).

I do wonder how the intermediate cases are handled, ie what happens to the slightly less energy efficient A13's and A14's? They now have at least one other place to use them (A13 in Studio Display). And perhaps the next Studio Display will use up the A14's, or perhaps they're targeting some new product of which we're not yet aware?
