Lol you're describing the most random and odd scenarios possible. If switching inputs on your monitor is a pain then just get an HDMI switch for like $10 or something. If you want a dock then just get a dock. When you say "some of us" I think what you really mean is you lol. Hardly no one does that, and certainly not enough for Apple to change their product to accommodate such a random scenario. Apple is only going to add features that make sense and would benefit most users, not a teeny tiny handful. And even the last thing you said, I still don't see the reason for the Apple TV to exist at all in that scenario. If you're playing a game then just have that device plugged directly into the TV/Monitor like normal, literally just leave an HDMI cable ready to go, or the HDMI switch I mentioned earlier, to plug your device into, I just don't see the purpose of why the Apple TV needs to be the middle man in that situation when it makes more sense to bypass it altogether.
Good lord dude. I post a wish for something that wouldn’t bother you one iota and you jump on me as if I spat upon your family crest. Get a grip.

Think there's plenty of other news happening right now to avoid a "New thing comes out next year" post

Looking at the state of Apple Arcade they could probably get away with a motorola 68000 let alone an M1 powering it

To call it pathetic would be a compliment , particularly when you see some of the amazing stuff in iOS gaming

Crissy Crossy Road , yeah real state of the art

Very strange. Apple TV 4k just needed one update from the original 2017 model and it looks like we're getting 3!

All that was needed was:
  1. Better remote
  2. 48 Gbps HDMI bandwidth (aka HDMI 2.1 as most people call it)
  3. HDMI 2.1 feature set (VRR, QMS, eARC, QFT, ALLM etc)
  4. Better codec support - DTS (even Sonos have started supporting this*), VVC and AV1 with DTS-MA/X as wish list (Disney+ has started using DTS on their Imax versions of films)
  5. Up to date chip to ensure good supply line (no point Apple isn't going to keep making the A10X just for the Apple TV)
All these could have been achieved in 2021 - HDMI 2.1 chips were readily available, the A15 had just launched (and is likely to be a chip that is made for a long time as the iPhone 13 slides down the range along with the iPad Mini and presumably 11th gen iPad). Instead we've piecemeal updates with 2021 adding point 1 and half-arsing points 3 (A12) and 5 (eARC) and 2022 adding a bit more of point 3 (QMS) and 5 (A15) and it looks like a 2024 update adding who knows what else.

I used to get all the Apple TV updates as I love the product (it is the default way for me to use my TV), but no more until I feel that the drip-feeding of features has stopped. Apple likes to release devices at a regular interval, but unless they actually go into gaming the Apple TV is not one of them.

*The Sonos website has a disclaimer that makes me think that some DTS patents have expired and they could decode DTS without paying for a licence/royalty fee. If True, there is no reason why Apple couldn't do this also.

Apple TV needs to support Safari.
A feature that may not be used by most. Using videogame consoles as an example, it is something that is rarely used. Sony dropped their web browser from the PS5 because they saw few ever used it. Trying to navigate with a controller or remote is frustration just waiting to happen.

On my XBOX's and Playstation's that is something I avoid at all cost.

Give it codec support! AV1, Dolby Vision, HDR 10+, TrueHD, DTS-HD, all of it.
how are you planning on playing those file formats on it anyway?
I'd love VLC and a USB port to play what I want.
But that seems unlikely to happen :(

Change the look...why do we get the same looking products for 8 years.
I’m not buying another Apple product until they ditch boring rectangles and squares for triangles. The iPhone has been a rectangle for 15 years. Have some imagination.

Pretty pointless. The monster upgrade Apple TV really needs:

Apple TV Pro
12 HDMI Inputs
2TB DVR
Live Streaming Integration (Twitch, YouTube, etc.)

This is the only way Apple completely takes over the living room.
