Blu ray? that would be awesome.. count me in... and redesign would be sweet... i guess I should have waited before I bought one a couple months ago... oh well. There is always something new and better out there!

its about time Apple introduces Blu-Ray!! i'll hold my applause until it is reality and... is not just in the desktop models, but also in the laptops.

why? because i want the ability to take my BD discs with me on the road to say watch on an airplane. of course i still would do PPV via itunes, but i aint going to rent a movie i buy on BD, nor do i want to waste hard drive space by doing a digital copy install.

and for those who think BD is a waste, you really don't know picture quality, nor sound quality, nor all the extras. it really is worth the investment.

1. Bring back discreet graphic to the 20" model. Really, not everybody have the desktop space for a 24".
Agree! I like my 20" model and is just big enough for my desk.

I don't know what all the fuss is about regarding Blu-Ray. I simply picked up an external Blu-Ray burner for about $300 and it works great with my iMac. I can burn, copy and authur Blu-Ray discs. Granted, I can't play them but that's what my Blu-Ray player is for. :)

It would be nice to have a Blu-Ray burner built into the iMac but it really shouldn't stop anybody from getting an external now and be done with it.

larger screen? 26 inch imac?

would love to have that. make it more like the apple display without the silly chin would be nice.

My Wish List

Here is my wish list for an iMac.

- Quad Core. (Maybe not yet, but soon)
- 4-6 memory slots instead of just two (this shouldn't be that hard)
- Two hard drive bays that are accessible to the end user. If they can make user replaceable drives in the MacBook/MacBook pro they should be able to do it in the iMac. (Two unlikely, but one user accessible would be an improvement)
- SD Card Slot

These are the only 2 compelling features that would cut it:

- NO monitor
- 2 PCIe slots

I think we'll see the following:

Blu-Ray, which I predicted last month here.

New enclosure, getting rid of the chin and going to LED backlighting, maybe a new color scheme.

More I/O ports.

Drop the 20'', making the 24'' the base and introduce a 28'' or 30'' with Core 2 Quad or Core i7 processors.

Maybe matte screen.

The iMac isn't a true desktop though. It is an all-in-one, essentially a laptop with the screen on the outside.
Nonetheless there have been mobile Core 2 Quads available for quite some time.

A lower base price would be nice and a Blu-ray option. Otherwise it's tacking on a $5 standard feature but still getting the same margins. If the machines get any thinner or smaller we're going to be using ULV processors and Atom.

Then again we do have 750 GB and 1 TB 12.5 mm tall 2.5" drives. Apple could shove one of those in and truly make the iMac a laptop on a stick. Not that we didn't call it that before.

I know they said iMac, but I hope it's Blu-Ray for the sake of my Mini. It's attached to the TV and dying for an HD upgrade, so the sooner they get BR into their lineup the better.

eSATA wouldn't be a bad idea for A/V folks. I'll put five Ameros on that.

Low bitrate HD video is a 'bag of hurt'.

for you yes, but for many folks they can't tell the difference so they are fine with what the itunes store is selling as HD

I could however see them having blu-ray drives for the pro and the upper 24" model as a test run, maybe custom offered for the others.

Esata slot is my guess, blu ray meh.

I could see them putting in a slot that would be boxed with SD but you could custom order it swapped to estata.

I also suspect that they might add solid state drives and matte screens as custom order options. at least until they see if folks will want such things.

I for one think cheaper ram is in the running, bigger hard drives and yes hopefully a better processor.

perhaps also a 30" display.

Don't get me wrong, I think the latest iMac is gorgeous, but the current pedestal design is now 5 years old. I'd like to see something substantially new.

I actually like the design I don't even mind the pedestal cause it is pretty easy to adjust.

then again I just took mine off the stand and wall mounted it a few weeks back so . . .

I'm surprised not a lot of people are saying touchscreen. Doesn't it seem like Apple is pushing multi touch? Wouldn't they want to compete with Windows 7 and the touch table? Would be cool if you could unmount the new iMac from its base.

I'd settle for faster processor and an SD slot though.

HDMI/VGA input would be SICK... Not sure what to do with my 1st gen 20" Intel iMac. No need to ditch the entire computer when the screen is fine... except that there's no option to only use it as a screen. I love the idea of being able to use it as a render base with another computer.

sub-k!

All I really care about is sub $1000, to make it a little easier for kids like me to buy a mac (i.e not to have to work 6 months just to be able to afford a refurb whitebook!)

All the features the imac has right now are good enough for me, although matte and blueray, and quad core would be nice, they're not dealbreakers.

Touch screen iMac..mmmm

Until we're all so dumbed down that all we can do is point at things on our shiny screens and grunt (yes I know we're pretty close, but we're not there yet), there is no way that touch screen desktops are ever going to have any practical use or purpose for 99 per cent of the people who use a Mac. It isn't going to happen. Period. Don't even think about it. Forget it, read some philosophy instead. Anything. Anything but think about touch screen desktops. They HAVE NO USE WHATSOEVER.

Sweet

Nice. Just today i started an Thread for advice on an Imac Buy, and now this :)

To be onest I doubt that it will be Quad Core and BlueRay.
Why? Simple:

QuadCore is still new. And the TPD is still more than it should be.
Blueray i also doubt because what good will it bring to watch blueray on an 24 iMac with those standart ****** Speakers? Yes I know its possible to put an 5.1 SurroundSound System on the iMac. But still it just wouldnt be the Same.

So there are 2 possibilities:

First - They will change the whole iMac design. It will have an better cooling Way and because of that it will be possible to put an Quad Core in it(maybe even an real DesktopCPU), also it will be an design which will be able to integreate an 5.1 surround system.
It would be a littel more in depth but wil come with larger screens, maybe up to 26.

The finaly it will be the slogan which I wish 4 so long "If you want mobile power get an Macbok Pro, if you want station Power get an iMac, and if you want even more get an Mac Pro"

But to be honest, i doubt that guys... (But I keep dreaming ;-))

Second - Mate screen option and minor CPU update is one thing and the other ist better display. Finally something that can be said "its even better than the macbook pro screens"

But in any case I realy am looking forward to it.

Tod

I thought Blu-Ray too...but if they DO toss blu-ray in it should be a Blu-Ray writer right from the start... none of this slow Blu-Ray reader just for watching movies crap like they pulled back when they started adding DVD to Macs...

Blu-Ray, hmm, maybe but I'm not interested. It would be cool as an option.

Redesign, yes. If Apple makes it look like this, I'm buying .
