I suspect the next mini will have a noticeable price hike over the current generation, if the rumors prove to be true its morphing into a sort of mini-pro, but at least Apple appears to be listening to those of us who tend to use their mini a lot of the time and like that form factor even though we have other iPads/iPhones...

I'm mixed on this.

I love my Mini, but also love that it cost me $350 or so

For my usage, I'm really not sure the benefits of a very expensive display tech will really be there.

This makes no sense to me. Why would they upgrade the iPad mini to mini-LED, while neglecting to do the same for the 11 inch iPad?

Most likely if this is true, they will announce the 11" mini led version also, to keep them all in line. It was odd the 11" was left out in the first place.

I had to dim the screen way down so others around me would not notice I was looking at p0rn. Ready for this release. I agree with the others before me, seems odd they would go with Mini LED considering its only on the 12.9 now but then again, maybe they just needed time and intend to do the same for the 11 in the future.

its Digitimes....they barely make enough mini-led for the upcoming 14" and 16"
There will be no mini-led ipad mini....at least this year generation

Apple is widely rumored to be planning a new iPad mini with a significant redesign, including a larger 8.5-inch to 9-inch display with slimmer bezels, a Touch ID power button instead of a home button, a USB-C port instead of a Lightning connector, and more.

According to a paywalled preview of a DigiTimes report today, the sixth-generation iPad mini will also feature a mini-LED display:The full report should be published by tomorrow with further details.

Compared to traditional LCDs, mini-LED backlighting offers benefits like higher brightness, improved contrast, and deeper blacks.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously stated that an iPad mini with a mini-LED display was in the works, but he said it would be a 7.9-inch model launching in 2020, a prediction that failed to materialize. Nevertheless, a mini-LED iPad mini certainly remains plausible as Apple expands the display technology across its product lineup, starting with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro earlier this year and the MacBook Pro likely next.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Debby Wu previously reported that the new iPad mini will be announced later this year, and mini-LED display-related component shipments kicking off in the third quarter of the year lends credence to that timeframe.

9to5Mac's Chance Miller recently reported that the next iPad mini will also feature the same A15 chip as the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup, and a Smart Connector for easily connecting compatible keyboards, while leaker Jon Prosser said the device will sport dramatically improved speakers and have compatibility with a new, smaller Apple Pencil.

The current iPad mini was released in March 2019 and features a 7.9-inch display, an A12 chip, and a Touch ID home button.

"DigiTimes" should be the first word in the title, at least we know that we don't have to read the article any further.

The mini is more likely than other iPads to be used outdoors in conjunction with drones and other photography functions.

I can understand that. My wife uses her mini a lot to take photos - I think she prefers the display size over the phone and the battery drains less quickly than the phone. She also carries it with her in her handbag when out. In contrast, I don't take my IPP out much even though it has a better camera and display. Smaller can be better :)

My understanding is that the highest peak brightness of the XDR, mini-LED display on the 12.9" iPad Pro is ONLY implemented when viewing supported HDR content. The brightness of the overall screen is not considerably brighter than the other iPad models. It might be a tiny bit brighter, but I don't think the difference warrants the extra cost plus the potential cost of repairs, which on a mini-LED screen is utterly insane. If you buy a mini-LED iPad, you better own Applecare.

Out of all of the rumors about the mini, this one actually seems the least likely to me. I’m not sure that it really seems realistic is the mini is released this fall. In any case, I would be OK with a $100 price increase but anything more than that would start to feel a little bit ridiculous.

$799 11” Pro doesn’t get I but $399 Mini does? Makes zero sense.
Well, the first thing to anticipate is a price increase. If the Mini gets even half of the new features rumored, it will likely be $50 to $100 more than the current model.

But still, I agree that it’s unlikely to have a Mini LED display, when the Pro 11” got LCD only months ago. Apple spokespeople said they didn’t want to make the 11” Pro heavier.

Maybe since the Mini is so much smaller, the added weight wouldn’t be as noticeable unless you’re holding the old Mini and new Mini in each hand? Or, you know, that was just a BS excuse for not including it on the 11” Pro and they don’t want to affect sales, when behind the scenes they know full well that next year’s 11” Pro will indeed be Mini LED.

11 Pro has already also been rumored to be getting mini-led next iteration so I’m not sure what the fuss is about. It’s not been said the new mini is being released before that one.
