Some companies (and other places like courts) have strict regulations for cellphones with cameras.

If Apple is serious about corporate use and wants the iPad to be more than a media consumption device they should offer a version without cameras as an option at least.

Some farmers are serious about 2M tractor tyre sizes.

If Apple is interested in creating a luxury automobile, it should seriously consider fitting 200cm alloy wheels to its iCoupe.

In other words, the days where the design of consumer electronics was decided by the needs of the business community have long passed.

Apple have never really had major problems with companies adopting the iPhone with its built-in camera. I'm sure it's not a big enough reason for Apple to worry.

Do you know that the thickness has very little to do with the weight? The weight is mainly determined by the width and height. Because the thickness uses much less material.

LOL

Let me guess, if you hold the tablet at a different angle the weight changes? Talk about holding it wrong.

So, apparently some people are OK with iPad having the worst camera amongst all tablets priced above $200. Perhaps, this makes sense. After all Apple designs a high volume product. It just can not be a high end tablet (not enough buyers for high end gear). It's not a tragedy. Some other companies will take care of this market segment. Motorola Xoom seems to be one such attempt.

What iPad2 really needs

Except for the 3G model, iPad does not have location based services. Many location based applications are not so useful on iPad wifi like the iPhones.

Why would anyone be okay with the iPad having the worst camera? Nobody's saying that. The question is if people are okay with having a camera that is 1MP.

Why doesn't anyone get that megapixels have virtually naff all to do with quality?

I hope the iPad 2 doesn't ship with a 1MP rear-camera... That's pretty lame. I understand that MPs do not represent picture quality, however the higher the MP the larger the image can be accurately reproduced. I have a 10 year old Kodak digital camera that has a 5MP sensor, my throw-away $20 pay-as-you go cell phone has a 3.2MP camera... Why would Apple put a dismal 1MP rear camera on the iPad 2?

I don't plan to be using the iPad 2 as a primary camera, but if I need to take a picture - for what ever reason - of a document, or someone it should be decent quality in respect to the size of the screen. I think the Motorola Xoom has a 5MP rear and 2MP front camera.

That's not exactly accurate. A higher megapixel photo can be enlarged to a greater degree without image degradation. I can print a movie poster-size picture with my 12MP camera photo... 3.2MP is decent quality for printing a 4x6 photograph - try printing (or viewing for that matter) a 1MP picture at 4x6 - it will look like crap.

It's like viewing thumbnails on the internet: A low resolution thumbnail looks great small but when you zoom up it becomes pixelated. A high resolution thumbnail looks just as good small, but when you zoom it retains it's quality.

this report from earlier today says that the ipad 2 will have a 3mp camera and record 720p video?

http://news.idg.no/cw/art.cfm?id=38E8B4AA-1A64-67EA-E4EBCE1B7A45AD38

The iPad 2 will support 720p video, have a built-in compass and port to connect to external monitors and TVs, it has been claimed.

Web developer Chris Galzerano wrote on his blog that he had been digging around in the third iOS 4.3 beta, which was released earlier this week, and found evidence of support for 720p video in the iPad 2.

"In the Core Services folder, there is a bundle called RawCamera. I looked inside the bundle, and there was nothing of interest. I looked in the SpringBoard.app package and found a surprise. There was a file called K48AP.plist. It showed capabilities of the iPad 2. All of the values were checked. Some of the important ones were: 720p (meaning the iPad would either play or record 720p video), magnetometer (meaning that the ipad 2 would have a compass like the iPhone 3GS, and displayport (Meaning the iPad 2 would have a displayport to connect external monitors and TVs)," wrote Galzerano.

Interestingly, Galzerano also found evidence of a 3MP camera, whereas many previous reports suggested that the iPad 2 would have a front-facing 0.3MP camera and a rear-facing 1MP camera.

Your basing your assumption that the camera is bad on a small amount of text that could well say anything without changing the performance of the installed hardware it relates to.
